Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

The updates that GS applied to the POS systems is responsible for that. It will actually nullify more than 2 promos in the same transaction even if both were supposed to apply. For ex: If you did the trade 2 for $9.99 game, and you had 3 games, and got a preowned game to get the 30% boost towards preowned, one of the promos will get applied but not both. Safe to do some transactions separately versus doing all in one to get the best results and avoid headaches.

Does that mean the trade history shows up now like purchase history?

During each trade in, I used it towards one the 30% bonus games, so these should be the base value unless I did my math wrong, lol. I know I could have gotten better deals else where or if I waited for one of their other bonus promotions, but I am clearing out my backlog and wanted to get rid of these games quickly.

I haven't seen any POS updates yet. It just shows the last 5 purchases. GS is supposed to have another update later this month that shows the customer's current PUR points. I haven't seen anything in the Store Informers mentioning trade history.

I am inclined to say it is not because this:

and the PS3 promotion to get a 500 GB Super Slim for $150.

That update is in place. Somebody made a comment about my 300k PUR points last time I was in.

I've already had receipts with a new design that tells me my PUR points balance. Is that what you mean? I wonder if it's store-by-store because one of my friends bought something after me at a different GS and it didn't print out for him.

250 GB Super Slim - $100 (9/10/13)
320 GB Slim - $100 (9/13/13)
500 GB Super Slim - $110 (9/30/13)

Super Slim 500GB is still $110 according to the TIV page. That really surprised me since it'll get $143 if you trade it back with the 30% bonus. You could keep the $20 game for $7 out of pocket and get about 6400 points.

Anyway, since 500GB is still high I'm hoping the 250GB has held. I want to trade mine in and upgrade to a converted 320 Slim. But I can't find a converted 320, so the question may be moot :whistle2:(

Sounds like it's by store. My store's receipts don't print out PUR points balances. It just shows how much a customer has saved as a PUR Pro member.
 
After you have completed a transaction at GS does your information stay on the screen for the cashier to view? Far too often, after I have completed a transaction and there is no customer after me, I see the cashier staring at the screen in disbelief.

Haha, yeah the screen from the last transaction is technically still viewable, but is partially cut off by the main POS menu.
 
Will they see my lifetime PUR points now or just my balance?  I already have a hard enough time explaining how I have 2k in savings year to date....hoping I don't have to start explaining a million lifetime points.

It better be.

Uh, I mean...you should be good at least through the weekend since they don't tend to update the Trade 2 list until the start of a new week or in the middle of the week.

 
Semi-OT, guys: I picked up a used Wind Waker HD this past week, but it didn't come with anything inside the original case other than the disc. I wasn't expecting the Club Nintendo code, but does it normally come with a manual?

Based on my recent receipts, i think they see only the current balance/savings after some "reset" that had to have occured. I had over a thousand in PUR savings according to last year and just this week my current PUR savings shows $600.

I think the reset was either done during some year end or maybe right after I renewed my PUR.

That definitely hasn't happened to me. My receipt from this afternoon shows quadruple figures still.

Edit- I was just looking at them again and I was wrong. It's still in quadruple figures but about $400 lower than the receipts from a week or so ago.

Normal returns here and there are cause for no concern. Excessive returns that abuse it will lead to account getting banned and as such the concern. The point was that they count against you one way or another but don't matter if one isn't abusing it.

Exactly! ... and GS bans people too. They do track them (the returns that is and anything in excess in general).
People keep saying that and I still don't see an issue. The only thing they'll ban is your Power Up Rewards card. You don't use ID at Gamestop, so there's nothing really to ban. You'll lose out on the $16 you paid for membership, and that's it. I don't think they can take the credit you have on the card, either.

 
They take your id in NY although its because of pawning laws and I don't know if it's actually tied to your account whatsoever. Since they ask for it everytime.

agreed. The only time ID is needed here is if your outside of Houston basically, and only trade-ins not returns. If they ban my account, I'll just make another one with a different #. I'm not getting banned anytime soon but if it happened, it wouldn't be a big deal.

It resets when you renew your PUR card....I renewed recently just because of that number(I was approaching 4k) and it did not take long to get to 2k again....and now I also get "whoa renewed til 2017!" a lot.

My PowerUp points never expired when I re-newed. In fact, it says how long I've been a member on the receipt and shows how many points I've had since then.

No manual, it is a digital manual, probably due to the big push for the digital version.

Pretty sure platinum was on the list a long time before pearl/diamond, not to mention they sell it for the same as heart gold, so I can't see why not.

Ok about 2% off topic here, but I was a ways away for work, up in a part of the state I don't usually get to hit, and oh... my... god... I had probably the worse gs experience I have had, and it directly involved a trade 2 promo. So, here is what went down I went to store X, had a good experience, picked up a spare copy of a game that I know is fairly rare (Mega Man Starforce 3 Black Ace) in preparation of the b1g1 on ds game steal of the week, plan to return/rebuy. But anyway, I traded in a cart only heart gold, and a cart only pearl, along with a dirt 3 :whistle2:$, also picked up a copy of rock revolution to trigger the trade 2 promo. While there I also picked up 3 DS games, Black 2, White 2, and Pearl (yes another copy XD) as I was going to a local store that had a game I was looking for in stock, Solatorobo: Red The Hunter. I was gonna trade in 2 of the pokemon games while I was up there, and essentially be able to keep the third for $10 essentially. Here is where it all went down hill.
Store Y was... Aweful... I go to trade the two pokemon in and pick up solatorobo... Also figured I would return rock revolution, I tend not to return most games I pick up (I have a STACK of Americas Test Kitchen) but I was low on credit and $5 was $5... I noticed the store X messed up bad... They never scanned the rock revolution, good right? FREE GAME??? WRONG! That meant I never got the boosted trade value on the Heart Gold and Pearl... I showed the associate the receipt and she saw I had just bought the pokemon games I was trading in, then she proceeds to go on a rant how I was gaming the system, how I was hurting the business and taking money from it, how what I was doing shouldn't be allowed, etc. I just said forget it, purchased solatorobo, and left without trading in games like I planned. I go back to the first store to fix the mistake they did (A quick re-ring should do everything properly).
She CALLED the other store AND apparently the district manager as well! Made me out to be almost a thief, I was flat out refused to have the transaction fixed. I was given two options, either void the transaction, take my games back, and give them back the games I purchased, or I could accept the lower trade values.
I was shocked like any of you would be, and clearly upset, I was told while I was not technically doing anything wrong, they were "being watched" now. I made it perfectly clear and asked "So YOU messed up, and now YOU will not fix it and do what you were supposed to the first time?" "I can't, sorry."
What really got me... was that, I could deal with the beyond rude employee at the second store, I could deal with practically being chased out of THAT store... but when I am told simply, and when questioned plainly, that even though he made a mistake, and ADMITTED he did, that he would NOT fix it, and do what he was SUPPOSED to do the first time? I draw the line there...
took the void, gave back the games and got back mine, made sure to still purchase mega man, and get the transaction ID even though it was voided and wouldn't let me do a survey for THAT. So after two SCALDING surveys, today I got a call from the store manager.
I told him the entire story, and what happened, and he agreed that the associate from his store was 100% wrong.
Now to be clear, I am not bashing on GS, IT WAS RESOLVED, and I look forward to forgetting the incident.
He talked with his employee, he apologized on behalf of both stores, and made sure to make clear that is not the way any store should run, and the way he does not want to run HIS store.
I accepted the apology, and is having a game transferred from the EVIL store that I saw they had, but just wanted out of there (I saw a Etrian Odyssey IV NEW, the first run edition with the art book and he is also sending a Dishonored GOTY tarot card deck, they gave them out for preorders, to my local store)

I was gonna trade in 2 of the pokemon games while I was up there, and essentially be able to keep the third for $10 essentially. Here is where it all went down hill.
Store Y was... Aweful... I go to trade the two pokemon in and pick up solatorobo... Also figured I would return rock revolution, I tend not to return most games I pick up (I have a STACK of Americas Test Kitchen) but I was low on credit and $5 was $5... I noticed the store X messed up bad... They never scanned the rock revolution, good right? FREE GAME??? WRONG! That meant I never got the boosted trade value on the Heart Gold and Pearl... I showed the associate the receipt and she saw I had just bought the pokemon games I was trading in, then she proceeds to go on a rant how I was gaming the system, how I was hurting the business and taking money from it, how what I was doing shouldn't be allowed, etc. I just said forget it, purchased solatorobo, and left without trading in games like I planned. I go back to the first store to fix the mistake they did (A quick re-ring should do everything properly).
She CALLED the other store AND apparently the district manager as well! Made me out to be almost a thief, I was flat out refused to have the transaction fixed. I was given two options, either void the transaction, take my games back, and give them back the games I purchased, or I could accept the lower trade values.
I was shocked like any of you would be, and clearly upset, I was told while I was not technically doing anything wrong, they were "being watched" now. I made it perfectly clear and asked "So YOU messed up, and now YOU will not fix it and do what you were supposed to the first time?" "I can't, sorry."
What really got me... was that, I could deal with the beyond rude employee at the second store, I could deal with practically being chased out of THAT store... but when I am told simply, and when questioned plainly, that even though he made a mistake, and ADMITTED he did, that he would NOT fix it, and do what he was SUPPOSED to do the first time? I draw the line there...
took the void, gave back the games and got back mine, made sure to still purchase mega man, and get the transaction ID even though it was voided and wouldn't let me do a survey for THAT. So after two SCALDING surveys, today I got a call from the store manager.
I told him the entire story, and what happened, and he agreed that the associate from his store was 100% wrong.
Now to be clear, I am not bashing on GS, IT WAS RESOLVED, and I look forward to forgetting the incident.
He talked with his employee, he apologized on behalf of both stores, and made sure to make clear that is not the way any store should run, and the way he does not want to run HIS store.
I accepted the apology, and is having a game transferred from the EVIL store that I saw they had, but just wanted out of there (I saw a Etrian Odyssey IV NEW, the first run edition with the art book and he is also sending a Dishonored GOTY tarot card deck, they gave them out for preorders, to my local store)
Wow, so...uh...I guess the moral of the story is "Never take your eyes off the digital readout and DO NOT sign for your trade(s) unless you're getting the correct value(s)"?

 
Gamestop employees are shady, yesterday they had every excuse in the book. They said they couldn't see if a coupon was applied until after the transaction. I knew this was a lie and they just didnt want to enter two coupons for me. Either that or the Oct. Bday coupon doesn't work. Cost me about $7. :(
 
My PowerUp points never expired when I re-newed. In fact, it says how long I've been a member on the receipt and shows how many points I've had since then.
The PUR points don't reset but the savings calculations do.

No manual, it is a digital manual, probably due to the big push for the digital version.

Pretty sure platinum was on the list a long time before pearl/diamond, not to mention they sell it for the same as heart gold, so I can't see why not.

Ok about 2% off topic here, but I was a ways away for work, up in a part of the state I don't usually get to hit, and oh... my... god... I had probably the worse gs experience I have had, and it directly involved a trade 2 promo. So, here is what went down I went to store X, had a good experience, picked up a spare copy of a game that I know is fairly rare (Mega Man Starforce 3 Black Ace) in preparation of the b1g1 on ds game steal of the week, plan to return/rebuy. But anyway, I traded in a cart only heart gold, and a cart only pearl, along with a dirt 3 :whistle2:$, also picked up a copy of rock revolution to trigger the trade 2 promo. While there I also picked up 3 DS games, Black 2, White 2, and Pearl (yes another copy XD) as I was going to a local store that had a game I was looking for in stock, Solatorobo: Red The Hunter. Hemi the problem was you alerted a junior detective. I know you were trying to be efficient by doing to return/rebuy at the second store but showing your recent purchase for the same games that you were trying to flip back to them was a pretty big screwup on your part. Even though you got the store manager to apologize, the district manager can choose to overrule and ban your account. The bigger concern is being outed as "that guy" to the local stores if they send a memo about you specifically.

I actually wasn't even doing a return/rebuy, I was simply trading in two of the three pokemon games I had bought, and actually was just returning the rock revolution (which wasn't even an option as it turns out they never even scanned it, which caused the whole issue). Plus I didn't mention, it was the district manager who called the store manager and told him about it, the survey results (when requiring intervention) go to the DM first. So when you have both the district manager, and the store manager siding with me (The store manager saying that the employee was 100% in the wrong, and that I was perfectly fine doing what I did, not to mention saying that If I ever go back to the store they would take care of any of my needs.) I am pretty darn sure that I am not gonna have anything wrong happen to me. I mean do the math, I wasn't PROFITING from this (I was keeping the third game, as with X&Y I intend to have as many older editions to get all the legendary's) and when you do the math it shows, with the trade 2 promo I would have gotten back about $26 each, they cost me $29.xx (before tax) each for the two, that leaves the remaining game (pearl in this case) at around $10 after tax.

Also FYI, my local stores (and most of the managers) know me when I come in, they have no problem what so ever with what I do.

He should get banned. That was one of the dumbest things I've ever read and I read a lot.
Now explain what I would get banned for? I am perfectly allowed to trade in any game I own, regardless of WHEN I purchase it, the manager even said it's a win/win for both parties regardless, it helps the store numbers, gets sales, they make money on the games they take in as well (The 3 games I traded/tried to trade in, even with the best promo out there, with PUR and everything, still sell at GS for over $100+tax, I would of ended up with maybe a little over $60.). If the person at the second store denied me, fine that should have ended there, instead, she took the initiative to call the store she knew I needed to return to, and pressure/threaten them to NOT fix the transaction they messed up, and say how she alerted the district manager. No matter how you look at it, that is NOT alright. The second store had no right to tell the first store not to fix the problem, and the first store had no right to deny me by properly ringing the transaction (The option was either they would ring the RR up separately, but they would not have it in the same transaction as the two traded in games, or they could do a void and everything goes back to start).
Please point out the spot on the receipt that says "Must own and play games for 24 hours before you can trade them in". Please point out anywhere on the site, or any terms and conditions that says what I was doing is against any rules what so ever?
