Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Not sure if you know this or not, but that coupon is a God send lol. If you buy two $5 PC games or any cheap games you can get a $60 one for free. OR if they have any collectors edition games those will be the free game as well.
This is why I love this site, you're the second one to tell me. I wouldn't have no idea so thank you, looks like Diablo 3 is coming home Monday.

With Playcation, it is 210. Perfect thing to trade in for the Zelda themed Wii U. Especially since I bought this from cowboom for around 190 after taxes.

For a while, Gamestop was giving $15 base value for :360: versions and copies were obtainable at $15 or less at various places. It later dropped to ~$13 base, which was still good with the right promos and purchase price from elsewhere; when it dropped another $1 to $12, that was pretty much the lowest it could go to result in profit with the 50% extra promo. So when it dropped to $11...that was it for any profitability, as it basically just became a break-even kind of game to trade in. :cry:

As for why you keep seeing it mentioned, I guess I have a "reputation" for having traded in many copies over the past few months. :razz:

UFC started at $12 base when Best Buy had it on sale for $7.99. Then for some reason the 360 version went up to $15 base. It's taken awhile for the base to come back down to what it is now.

Well, according to my spreadsheet, it looks like it was first $12 base in May (when BBY was selling copies at $7.99 each), then it rose to $15 base in June, then it dropped back down to $12 base by August. So it looks like it was never $13 base, or least it wasn't when I traded in any copies (it might have been $13 at some point between June and August).

Well I traded in my final copy of UFC 3 today, $11 base like reported. But boy oh boy was I like, speechless when I was browsing the stores guides. I was getting a haircut and was near a GS I don't usually go to (Actually pretty close, might need to start going there, and the employee was pretty cool.) But sweet god... I found the mother load of Final Fantasy XII CE guides... they had like... 20... literally... all new... I kind of wanted to buy one (I probably will actually go back and buy a FEW). I mean still NEW and SEALED, some had some tears in the wrapping but I mean these are ANCIENT!
The manager was also awesome enough to keep me from having to buy a cheapo game or w/e when I went to do the trade 2. He just adjusted the TiV of the 2 games and let me put it down towards Watch Dogs.

I thought I got like $18.xx for it back then. It was a good flip. I traded three or four of them. May UFC Undisputed 3 rest in peace.

No but the B2G1 coupon from renewing does work on memory cards and other accessories.

 
Quick question for all of my fellow CAGers.

I brought Lego City Undercover and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 in to Gamestop today, hoping to trade both in so I could get GTA5 for 9.99 or less.  Quickly found out that the promotion only applies to new games that are currently out and not for pre-orders, which was a huge buzzkill to the promotion.

So my question is:  If I put it towards another $60 game, like Splinter Cell, and keep it wrapped with receipt, would I be able to exchange it for GTA5 come release day?  Or would it not allow me to return/exchange the game?

Edit: Or depending on how returns work, would I be able to get the full $60 plus tax back in store credit from a game and then just use that on GTA?

Nope because it just bumps the trade value of the two games up to $25 plus 10% of the base if you're PUR silver as well.

As long as you have some basic Excel knowledge/experience, it's not hard at all. At the beginning of every year, I make a workbook ("[Year] Compendium of Cheapness & Completion"...what? I like alliteration :razz:) and make several worksheets within it:

1. Deals (columns for item name, item type, MSRP, price paid, $ savings, % savings, yes/no for whether I paid with store credit or my personal funds, where I bought the item, and the date I participated in the deal)

2. Trades-GS (columns for game name, system, base TIV, after-promos TIV, and date traded)

3. Trades-AMZ (columns for game name, system, quantity traded, total TIV, and date processed)

4. Trades-BBY (columns for game name, system, base TIV, after-promos TIV, and date traded)

5. Games (games I've beaten in the year so far, with columns for game name, system, final playtime, date completed, and personal score)

6. Movies (films I've watched so far, with columns for name, date watched, and +/=/- as to what I thought of it)

7. Books (books I've read so far, with columns for title, author, date completed, and personal score)

...That's not overboard, is it? :lol:

So it's been a while since anyone's reported a TIV for the original Most Wanted for 360, about two and a half months in fact. Am I wrong in thinking that it's probably still around $15 if they're selling the game for $40 used?

I need even more details! Like I want to be able to track everything back to it's source so that I can point to anything I own and say "I only paid $8 originally for that 1989 VW Golf."

If I stay up-to-date on everything, it's really useful, and it feels really good (i.e., proud to be a CAG ;)) when, at the end of every month, I total up all of the deals' values from that month and see how much I've saved.

 
That is awesome. That's why I enjoy the trophy tracking system, not just for trophies but because it tells me what games i played, how complete i was, etc. It really helps when you are high all the time / have a horrible memory and can't remember things. I need to do spreadsheets like that. as is im just ocd scribbling on papers and tiny notes all the time, lol.

yeah i think i started my flipping 5 years ago. my initial investment was like $200 for 10 lbp games and flipped them all at bestbuy for 400 credit and it just snowballed from there and been playing with house money ever since. that's when they would let you mail in the tivs (no instore bonus) and you could flip as many as you wanted. never thought it would last this long. now i play with house money at bb gs amazon. and iv still got like $200 credit here n there at weird places like tru, secondspin.com, half.com...

"this customer can not trade in for cash" prompt pop up, store manager doesn't know the cause. All my previous tradein were for store credit, and had 1 $99.99 no receipt return. Does this mean that I'm going to ban from trading in soon? TIA
Not sure. Never seen that prompt before. Have other people been using your account? If you haven't done trade for cash before they might've flagged the wrong account by mistake.

Ditto..... I pretty much have unlimited store credit by using these deals between stores (blockbuster, bb, gamestop, estarland, etc.) I started out with a $200 investment at Blockbuster and it's been smooth sailing from there. Even got a free PS4 out of this.

It's all about watching out for deals between stores. I guess this is kinda how those extreme couponers are except with games. it's almost a hobby at this point.

As long as you have some basic Excel knowledge/experience, it's not hard at all. At the beginning of every year, I make a workbook ("[Year] Compendium of Cheapness & Completion"...what? I like alliteration :razz:) and make several worksheets within it:

1. Deals (columns for item name, item type, MSRP, price paid, $ savings, % savings, yes/no for whether I paid with store credit or my personal funds, where I bought the item, and the date I participated in the deal)
2. Trades-GS (columns for game name, system, base TIV, after-promos TIV, and date traded)
3. Trades-AMZ (columns for game name, system, quantity traded, total TIV, and date processed)
4. Trades-BBY (columns for game name, system, base TIV, after-promos TIV, and date traded)
5. Games (games I've beaten in the year so far, with columns for game name, system, final playtime, date completed, and personal score)
6. Movies (films I've watched so far, with columns for name, date watched, and +/=/- as to what I thought of it)
7. Books (books I've read so far, with columns for title, author, date completed, and personal score)

...That's not overboard, is it? :lol:
Overboard? You want to talk spreadsheets, we can talk, my friend. Since my sophomore year of school I've been making spreadsheets for games. Started with just RPGs, and then stats for Halo 3. I'm now at the point where I make a spreadsheet for every single game I play. Nt just simple one column jobs, either. I'm talking full sheets for a game that barely has anything to track.

In the mean time, I've nearly mastered excel on my own, so that's pretty cool.
 
That is awesome. That's why I enjoy the trophy tracking system, not just for trophies but because it tells me what games i played, how complete i was, etc. It really helps when you are high all the time / have a horrible memory and can't remember things. I need to do spreadsheets like that. as is im just ocd scribbling on papers and tiny notes all the time, lol.

yeah i think i started my flipping 5 years ago. my initial investment was like $200 for 10 lbp games and flipped them all at bestbuy for 400 credit and it just snowballed from there and been playing with house money ever since. that's when they would let you mail in the tivs (no instore bonus) and you could flip as many as you wanted. never thought it would last this long. now i play with house money at bb gs amazon. and iv still got like $200 credit here n there at weird places like tru, secondspin.com, half.com...

I had a problem at local gamestop there was pokemon heart gold case with new sticker so i was like do you have this game? They said no they checked there inventory it was not there. They took it out of the pre owned case he took the box put it in the drawer then guy said we only have it pre owned... wtf then i asked for the case he said they don't sell ds games with cases...

I don't think he was lying about not having it new but it is pretty dumb that he wouldn't let you have the case. It may have been a non-standard game case though since a lot of their 3DS and DS cases for new games that are Nintendo published are not the actual game cases but promotional boxes.

 
sasukekun, is there some way to move some of the credit from a pre-order back into the card before release date?
I've seen you ask this question in here before and in another thread and I don't see why you can't just cancel it, get your money back, and immediately do a new preorder with the amount you want. That is what others have suggested and is what I would do also. Tell them it was a mistake putting all the credit on that preorder and you wanted to get some of that credit back, if they say that you can't do that, just cancel it and do a new preorder. They can't stop you from canceling and doing a new one for the correct amount.

 
The New has the game removed, so they put the game back into the case and they sell it. The employee probably had enough games, but he didn't want to sell it as New. A complete HearGold goes for more than MSRP these days, so it's possible that he saved it for himself.

One time when I went to buy The Last Story, the guy said that he didn't have it so it probably got sold without the case. I asked him if I could then have the case and he gave me the case for free.

Konfusion, I would do that, but if it's possible to do it another way, then I would like to know first.

Well I wouldn't be that cynical. As far as I can tell from their store locator there's not a new copy in the state of Michigan and it's probably like that almost everywhere. Look at the DS boxes next time you're in the store too and I'm pretty sure the Pokemon boxes all have this large "NEW" thing on them that's actually printed on the art.

The display copies? I don't think I've ever seen the HeartGold ones. I do know that there is one game I've been secretly collecting that comes with a New sticker on the case and it comes with an outer box and other items separate. I take the game to the counter and I get the other contents although they're not always complete.

I'm pretty sure the store down the road still has the HeartGold boxes out but there's definitely none. Now if the store locator told him that they had it that's different but the only thing I've ever been lied to my face about was when I asked about America's Test Kitchen.
