WHEN POSTING VALUES:

Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

They can most definitely see your recent transactions. How many? I think it's pure conjecture, but many have said it's the last 5 purchases. Another thing to consider is that they are rolling out a new POS system so some stores may be different - even in the same city/district.

Now say if you bought 10 games in a single purchase, whether it would show them the entire purchase or only a couple of games from there is anyone's guess. I don't recall anyone here who works for GS go on record to say what exactly the POS shows them for prior transactions.

The real question is: 'Is the POS showing recent trade-ins as well?'
They for some reason don't see transactions instantly. I would imagine they see basically the same information as your card activity from Power Up Rewards minus the point redemption.
 
I'm in a GS with preowned copies of GTA V and NHL, but it's in MA so I get charged tax :(. Ugh, can't pull the trigger.
Ended up picking up 2 GTA and 1 NHL. Took NHL to the BB at the other side of the mall (literally one minute before close) for $40.50. Will trade GTA in at my GS first thing tomorrow morning. Only bummer is I ran out of GS credit so had to spend some real cash :(
 
thats what im using like i did today. the gta 5's recoup 95$ of the 98.98$ that im spending. the nhl/fifa is fodder for bestbuy ;)
Got 3 GTAs, but I'm not sure if I should trade at BB or GS. BB will be a lot less of a hassle trading all 3 in at once. The employees never make a big deal out of it, but I know I'd get less. GS gives me more, but I think they'd act weird if I traded all 3 at once.

 
Does anyone know b-day coupon stacks with B1G1 SOTW and if so which is the last 4 digits that works with it.
The one that ends with 1650 worked today.
I used it on Pokemon Platinum ($39.99 Regular Price) which made that free and paid for Pokemon Pearl with the B1G1.

Did the trade-ins at another store, Trade2 was still working.

Bought me some GTA V to trade-in tomorrow.

Well, it happened to me, what we (most of us) are expecting to happen, I am kinda ashamed/proud it was the first to happen to (and I also got the "member updated 0" thing in my account on the 21st... But yeah literally know the exact hour it happened, I (or atleast my card) caused the system to give a warning to refuse the trade  :oops:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall:  :wall: ... How I know the hour is I had done a trade in just shortly before at a previous GS. Was trading in 4 games (DKC:R, AC:NL, MH3U, and Heart Gold.) and picking up a game that is on sale crazy stupid for $5, if anyone has a ps3 with the game locally, pick up Power Gig Rise of the Six String Guitar Bundle. It is $5.
But any way, so it turns out that MH3U is not actually on the list (the WiiU version atleast isn't) I have a new list with an expiration of 11/2 that I will try to find that he printed out. So I kept MH3U and Heart Gold.

ANYWAY, so I wanted a Regular DS to start storing up pokemon from previous gen's, and so I grabbed an old phat one, and 2 GTA V's, one PS3 and one 360, DS came out to be free.

When I went to a second GS on the way to a target that still had a NEW Heart Gold (With pokewalker *shudder*, someone will definitely be like "You are trading in heart gold? Are you stupid?"). The manager there who was ringing the trade in, had to refuse the trade, the system gave him the warning. So in the travel time between store A and store B, I was banned from trade ins.

Now if this unfortunate event happens to anyone else, don't fret, it is only the card that gets banned, FROM TRADE INS. Should still let you get 10% off preowned and what not, but anyway I signed up for a new PRO card at the gs next to the target I was going to, and all is good now, obviously was disappointed and a little embarrassed as anyone would be being told I was banned (that is ONE store I won't be showing my face around anymore) but it is NOT the end of the world, I will now be taking it super easy on any "flips" or trade 2 promos, as I am taking the hint.

 
I got the weirdest glitch on my trade in today.  Went to trade in one gta v ps3, nba 2k14 360, and wiimotes.  Things were correct on the screen but upon looking at the receipt I saw that I was shorted quite a bit.  Base is $25 for the NBA2k14 promo #15115.  The total was 32.50.  Funny thing is that it only gave $5 for the promotion and $2.50 for my rewards card.  The five dollars isn't even 30 percent.  Talked to the guy and told him and he gave me a BS of a story lol.  After basically realize that he couldn't do math I went out the store.  Gonna be interesting hearing from a DM about this.

Cant say I didnt warn you guys about how strict they are getting about enforcing bans now. They are watching account and can put bans in effect instantly now.

Did you buy a preowned game??? Seriously... post a picture of the receipt and we could easily point out EXACTLY what happened.

They probably gave you the guaranteed $30 for it and then you got your pur to make it 32.50

"Card Activity" I dunno if it was just universal for everyone and we are just paranoid about that, but yeah... Careful trading in doubles, if anything, trade in the pokemon games without the card... It is about $2 a pop less per set of 2 pokemon, but yeahhh...

Yes, this is what happened though I told the guy specifically I want the 50 percent trade deal and he listened I though but then boom that one went down after I added the two pokemon games to the order. Still is dumb though since he acted like he could not fix the problem at all.

Edit:

I would post a receipt but I covered bases with pokemon and crossbow to make sure 50 percent kicked in. So it simply had to be the dumb guarantee $30. Still gonna complain since again I told him I needed them all to be 50 percent promo and pointed it out to him without walking out the door. "The computer gave you the best deal," is what he said, however every other trade in deal is better lol.

Side note - I never made a PuR account under my name ever. I'm still on my ex GF account from 3 yrs ago lol. If I get banned and she finally decides to go trade something in at GS, WHOOPS! They don't ask for IDs around here so, I'm lucky and a bad person.

Side note - I never made a PuR account under my name ever. I'm still on my ex GF account from 3 yrs ago lol. If I get banned and she finally decides to go trade something in at GS, WHOOPS! They don't ask for IDs around here so, I'm lucky and a bad person.
Luckily my local store does not ask for ID on trade ins either, but a different one does, but I don't think it matters, that is mostly for pawn laws and for if someone is trading in stolen goods, not to track you particularly. Unless you mean them sending out a memo listing your name on a "do not accept trade in's" list, and them getting it off your ID.

I will never do anything worthy of getting put on a list, but that's what I meant like those 5 guys that were posted yesterday. I don't buy and trade them back at stores that have the same DM either, keeps the heat off.
 
Btw anyones gamestop remodeling for at the moment? My local one has a whole rack section for xbox one with nothing in it lol.

Got the member updated thing on the 23rd have done 4 trades since then I'm not to sure that update means you are banned

Yea every GS should be moving everything around for next-gen. One store I went to looked like a GameCrazy liquidation sale. :( miss that store

I have had the member updated since 10/04/2013 but the post date keeps changing. It now is listed with today's date. I've done tons of trades since the first time I saw it including today. I'll update if I happen to get refused while trading in more stuff tomorrow.

That itself is not the ban, as mine was on the 21st and I know exactly after which trade I got banned. Trade worked fine for it, but aftwards, nope, needed a new card. (Which I DID get, and which I DID trade in the two GTA V that I had bought.)

I checked my card activity log and it has no member updated entries. First page goes back to 8/31. I've only done 1 pokemon trade 2 deal but lots of trade 2 deals overall since that promo began. No GTA5 trade backs though. If I had to guess I'd say it's related to regional system updates like you said

Also I saw the past purchases they can see, and can confirm it is just the last 5. It is also at least a day behind here at least.

I checked my card activity log and it has no member updated entries. First page goes back to 8/31. I've only done 1 pokemon trade 2 deal but lots of trade 2 deals overall since that promo began. No GTA5 trade backs though. If I had to guess I'd say it's related to regional system updates like you said
Probably right, but that regional update may make it MUCH easier for them to ban such fine upstanding members of the comm.... OH WHO AM I KIDDING WE ARE FLIPPERS *SOB*... What have I sunk to???

 
I got the member updated message dated 10/24. But all I did was:

1. On 10/23:

A. TrAde in the show 13 and star trek for 60% extra by getting a $1 game

B. Redeem the B1g1 and use Pok white 2 and Pok diamond to get Fifa 14, which I still have.

2. On 10/24

A. Redeem a second B1g1 and use a second Pok white 2 (tried to find pearl but couldn't) and Pok black 2 to get GTA5, which I also still have.

B. Trades in nba 2k14 for 60% extra by buying a $5 game I actually wanted.

C. Used credit from 2k14 to buy 3 games on the b2g1, which I traded in at best buy.

Also of note, all the games I traded in to GS were games I had awhile from best buy, except the poks. So it had to be either:

A. I got flagged for trading in 2 Pok white 2 games on the same day I bought them or
B. I got flagged bc the b1g1 says "limit 1 per customer" and I guess we are supposed to put ourselves on honor system or
C. It was just too much trading in too short a window or
D. Evone doing the Pok is gonna get flagged because it's being abused way to much - for instance, i did the Pok in one area of the county and when I was in another area 40 miles away i heard a district manager complaining something about Pokemon that I just missed
E. or lastly, it could be that the girl who rung me up for gt5 flagged me be cause when I traded in the poks she said "wow u didnt even play these."
 
So pls correct me of I'm wrong. I thought you got 30 points per dollar on used/trade ins and 10 on new for pur????Did they change it to 20 for used/trade or did I just make that up in my head ?
 
I get the member updated too randomly.  Its usually when I trade in games or change my reservations. I dont do any flipping of games and also this does not mean you are banned. I have to show my id every time i trade in anything and I have not updated my address on my license so it keeps getting changed when I hand them my id. The manager knows that she doesnt need to change it but the others do.

 
Oh man, interesting last two dozen pages since I haven't been at the computer since yesterday morning.  FYI no one have a brain fart like me and try to do a trade two and 50% bonus in the same transaction.  Came out of that snafu negative $10 on the trades but I wasn't thinking since I was more paying attention to signing up for a second PUR card.

A. Possibly. I redeemed on 10/23 and traded them in on 10/24 so maybe it is a same day thing that results in a flag

B. Also possible. I only redeemed one offer. Maybe the other guys who got the updated thingie can say how many they redeemed...

C. Almost certainly not since CAGS have been trading fast and furious many times before whenever a good deal arrives and this has not been seen before

D. Well I didn't get that message anywhere so I'd say no

E. Doubt it. Most everywhere I trade into, no one pays any attention to the screen at all to see the transactions. They are more concerned with getting me to preorder lol

Hopefully we can identify a pattern here among those who got the message...

I had the exact same brain fart and lost out on $13 extra credit because of it. Cashier was talking all kinds of Pokemon stuff to me and I was acting like I actually knew what he was talking about while we were doing the transaction. Meantime, forgot to add the cheapie preowned game into the mix to get the 50% bonus on my trade ins :wall:

 


This is proof that GameStop is going hard on bans now and people should take it easy. Hope none of you are on this list. This was take from a Brooklyn, NY store by the way.
Hahaha, Gaymestop is so stupid. They actually have the nerve to say something like "our high levels of trade integrity." They wouldn't know integrity if it knifed them in the eye. And they think they can ban people without taking ID. It's just too funny.

 
I Googled the "Member Updated" thing and someone on Yahoo Answers mentioned it over a year ago (June 18, 2012) but they didn't know what it meant, either.
