Please try to follow the example below if possible. If you feel the need to use the system icons, please only use them once at and at the top of the list. Also always post the system it's for even if it's only on one system or the value will not get updated. I don't always know it and I'm doing these updates from work to keep them as updated as often as possible so I can't spend time searching for that info.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the PowerUp Rewards card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your PowerUp Rewards card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60. No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

I called 3 gamestops that share a parking lot with Walmart today and they didn't no shit about this 20%
The gamestop I went to is less than 1 minute away from Walmart. He said they have a 20% bonus but he had no idea what it was for. He had told me about it over the phone last night which is why I chose that store. Then didn't add it in till I asked why it wasn't added. I think Ive traded some version of COD ghosts at least 15 times to BestBuy, Gamestop, and B2G1 then sold to friends. I have played it maybe 2 hours total. Ive made tons of credit though so I can't hate on the game.

Has anyone tried trading a slim adapter with this extra bonus?
Nope, but I tried to trade a PS4 controller without success. No 20% bonus on it, just games. Of course the cashier did that item on a separate transaction, so I don't know if it couldn't stack or if he just wouldn't do it. So basically it's probably just for games, but I'm not positive.

Also in case anyone needs it for whatever reason, the Walmart 20% promo # is 15977

When you buy stuff on the Gamestop website, and pay with Paypal, when you do a return, how does the money get returned? Do they give it to you in cash, or do they put it back on Paypal, like with a credit card?

 
If anyone is trading in a system towards a next gen system and planning to return for credit back, I'd recommend asking for a gift receipt and returning it at a different location with that. Easily the most hassle free way to do it.
 
I'm thinking of trading in my Launch Vita towards the Borderlands Bundle, I want to wait for a good promo. I don't think the vita TIV is going to drop much further below $70. What do you guys think?

They give store credit tax free. store credits being taxable at purchase varies by states. Here in New York, I bought a Wii U tax free with store credit, but if I were to do the same in California, I'd have to pay tax on it.
 
Well I tried asking about the 20% but the manager didn't know anything about it and was a little busy when he was looking things up and didn't find anything about it. If you got the 20% extra good for you, I don't think I'm getting it.

Does anyone know if the 40% can be used on systems to trade to a preorder game because from the looks from the website it does but on the fliers it does not mention systems.

What's funny is, I live in Michigan, the tax is 6%. I had a business lunch in Toledo OH today, and a Gamestop happened to be on the same street, and I was 20min early, so I figured I'd just return the Wii U I bought since it was just hanging around in my trunk anyways.
I forgot that I was in a different state, and didn't realize until I got more than what I paid back on a gift card. (OH sales tax is 7%)

I returned it with a gift receipt, and they asked to see my ID and asked for a phone number (not sure if it's an Ohio thing, they never ask ID for anything at Gamestops in Michigan)

Of course, I made sure to give a phone number that's different from the one on my PUR account lol

Edit: first one I called said they were participating. It's the one in the village. Guy knew about the promo extensively saying in case walmart true tried to "one-up" GameStop, corporate had the promo ready for a while. Also it runs till the end of the month.

Probably a typo. The website for GS trade values has it at $15 base.

 
So I got banned from trading at the local Gamestop today. Anti-capitalist reasons of course. Wasn't even like a computer ban. It was just a bitch saying we can't take your stuff anymore. 

Oh well. Not like there aren't 50 other Gamestops around. What I want to know is if they talk to each other. Do I have to worry about my picture being on some wall? Still money to be made off these bitches and I want it.

I've traded in 3 PS4s and made 3 big returns as well, but have yet to be told that I'm "banned" from doing anything.

Trading a PS4 for a Wii U and then returning it for 400 dollars worth of Kindle cards was probably the straw that broke the camel's back. It wasn't even like the 3-6 month ban you hear about. I was told "from now on" they won't take my trades. Can they even do that? Can I appeal to the higher ups?

 
In theory they can do it. It is private property and if they ask you to leave you also would have to leave. I am just an "internet lawyer" though, but I believe I am correct. If you try to trade at another store and you get shut down, you could try talking to the DM, but most likely they all know.

Just go to a different store. No biggie. Milk those GS MoFo's for as much as you can. That's my motto. I stick it to them whenever i can. The people that work there aways seem cool with me, but the company itself is a cheating piece of you know what. (i.e. selling opened games as new, lowering trade in prices when they have promos, price gouging: selling the PS4 camera for $10 over retail price everywhere else, etc, etc.)

Weirdest thing happened today. Returned the PS4 and cashier gave it back to me all on my credit card. Not gonna hate on it.

I'm not one to talk though. I traded in an Xbox One and PS4 yesterday for a new PS4 and $500 in Kindle cards. So I may be next.

 
I have had someone tell me that they had to lower the return value for a preorder when cancelled it because I used a promo to get it as well as how they do not take returns on new games. what the dumb lady didn't know  I was friends with her manager and  so I asked him he called BS and the lady had to apologize to me in front of a crowd of people saying how she was a liar about Gamestop policy...etc.  The lady now avoids me at all costs .

Back on topic though:

Thinking of just doing the 40% on AO after I beat it should hopefully come out to it being free or a really cheap rental.

But here is something that has NOT YET BEEN MENTIONED HERE (as far as I know)...
GAMESTOP CAN NOW PRICEMATCH THE TRADE IN VALUES OF OTHER STORES

Yeah, that is right, they will actually MATCH the trade in values of say best buy, or walmart, or maybe even amazon.

If this program gets adopted and becomes the new norm, you will probably hear more about it. But since it is still new, unless the store specifically knows about it already, it might not be participating at this time, or it could just be uninformed.


Edit: Now just a word of warning, a ymmv of course, is that since I am only going by what I read, the EXACT details of this, are not known. Is it going to be a universal price match policy? Do they match some places, but exclude others? Is it up to the employee whether or not to ALLOW the price match? I don't know. But I am just giving you the information that it EXISTS!

  A GameStop representative confirmed the "Never Walk a Trade" promotion in a statement to GameSpot today.

"We did just launch a program called 'Never Walk a Trade.' The program includes many features, one of which includes empowering our store managers and associates to offer customers-- when they believe it is needed--the best value for their pre-owned video game and consumer electronic products. This program is focused on helping ensure we continue to provide the most valuable trade-in offers against all competitors and not lose an opportunity to meet our customer’s needs based on trade-in value.

The reason we introduced this program is because we want to continue to elevate customer awareness of the unique proposition of the GameStop buy-sell-trade model."

The real question is if you still get the regular GS bonus if they match BBs base.
I think when they adjust the value it cancels out any promos, I have had that happen before when the trade 2 was going on, and one game was on the lists, but wasn't activating the promo, they had to manually add my 10% on top of it again.
