Hey all:

Now that you can get Anarchy Online free for one year, I say we start a CAG crew to level up together and learn the game mechanics so we can catch up to some of the more advanced players. God knows some of the long-time players will be disgusted with the flood of newbies, so it will be good to ask eachother for help rather than bother some of the "locals".

This thread is for everyone who is registering with the free 12-month subscription. Please post your character info, meet-up times, etc. HERE!

This is AWESOME!!!

Jeremy

I downloaded the game last night, and will be creating my character tonight.

When I get all that done, I'll post my character info so we can all get together tonight.

If you guys want some fast money making tips, keep an eye out on general chat for people looking to start guilds. They will pay you to sign their charter and then you can leave.
Keep an eye out for people wanting to by cheap vehicles, they will sometimes pay you hundreds of thousands of creds to find them a cheap terminal to buy them from since the price changes about every 5 minutes.
Get clicksaver and search for level 20 Concrete Pillows
http://www.gnarf.net/clicksaver/
in pairs these can sell for 100k depending on server and sometimes more if the buyer is rich and desperate.
check out the official forums . they are the best place for that game over any other.
They use to have a faq about how to make money fast and which things to search and sell. If its still not on the first page, search and find it.

- and for your own good dont go clan hehe
Everyone knows clanners are smelly unwashed heathens who live in trash covered cities.
Omnitek will protect you.

Also Noodle if you don't mind me quoting you:

As far as servers go, It doesnt matter mutch which server you choose.
However, RK1 is generally more crowded and has a bit more lag in the larger cities. RK2 is a litte less laggy.
The german server is smooth and not laggy at all with no contention for hot spawns.

It use to be that RK1 had all the events on it and RK2 did not, but I dont think they do many special events with GMs anymore so server choice does not matter.
Also the economy on RK1 is a bit messed up since its been up longer and things will be more expensive on RK1 then RK2.

HOpe that helps some of you choose the server for you. This game is great and I pay for it gladly even though I also now play wow. Hope you guys enjoy it. It would suck to see it close down due to lack of players.

You guys might also want to download Clicksaver. Unlike most mmorpgs, AO lets you use SOME 3rd party programs to enhance the game.
CLicksaver allows you to easily spot the loot rewards you are looking for or location of mission FAAAAST.
http://www.gnarf.net/clicksaver/
Otherwise ou will be slowly clicking through mission by mission to search for the piece of armor or weapon all day. This allows you to do blitz rns and get major money making items to sell or finish your complete set of armor . If you want to make money people will tell you to get clicksaver.

I'm in if I can get everything working allright. I finish my last final tonight so I should be able to get started either tomorrow or saturday.

Quoite me all you like, I think it will be the last time I posted something quoteable :p

I would join you guys, but I cannot play until I get my new comp in about 2 weeks. Been on a 400mhz since my main crashed and have been away from the game since before Alien Invasion came out. Still paying for the sub though and I cant wait to get back in a play again.

If anyone has any race/job questions that havent been answered in the AO forums or whatnot I would be glad to throw my experience out for you to judge and make your own opnions.
Keep in mind that the game is probably more balanced then most mmorpgs out there and any race/job combo is viable and just about any shortcomings can be overcome with gear. You may not be as strong as another race, but you might get the spells sooner. So its all a give and take. Don't think you are pigeonholed into sticking with their examples.
You will only feel the difference at the first few levels and last few levels if you equip your char with the right gear.

I have nano/tanks and trox/engineers, trox/mages it just means your playing style will be different or possibly more challenging then those who choose the expected race/job combo.

this AO forum post should answer most if not all your questions :)

I was reading a little on the AO forums, and people are already complaining about the free campaign. Mostly the long-time players, saying they've invested all this time and money and now the floodgates are opened to all the newb's, what's going to happen to the player community, how are the servers going to take the load, etc.

That's just more of an excuse to stick together and grow our characters at the same time. And I expect I'll end up graduating to the expansions, Notum Wars, Shadowlands and Alien Invasion, before the 12-month period ends.

I'll post my info soon as I get the silly thing downloaded, my BT stopped running on it's own after I went to bed so that was a huge chunk of dl time down the drain.

I'm in on this. I can't get it to DL faster than 5KiB/s though. I've opened up more ports as someone suggested but still no luck. Hopefully in a few days it will be done.

same here...damn bittorrent

I downloaded the program over night, that helped. No time like sleeping! I just logged in to create my character and get things squared away.

I've picked the RK2 server. My char is named Saraa, she is an Opifex with a blue ponytail.

My meet times will vary. Since I'm unemployed and working on cleaning my house, I have a ton of free time. I'm willing to make a CAG clan, but I will wait until seeing other people's meet times. I'm in pacific time zone, by the way.

Ok finished downloading, made a human character on RK2 named Shana, haven't really had a chance to play yet but should be on tomorrow, I can play in any time slot since I rarely sleep.

I've downloaded everything, but I haven't had a chance to install and create my character yet. Probably sometime during the day on Saturday. Hopefully if all goes well and my wife leaves me alone, I'll get in some playing time over the weekend.

Male martial artist of the skinny class named Rhunen on RK 2. So far I played around an hour and am not too impressed. Really not user friendly. Does it get easier?
I would love to join the CAG crew, what are the system specs needed to run the game decent ?
according to their info:

Minimum:
Pentium II 300 MHz, 64 MB RAM, Windows 95/98/ME/2000, 8 MB DirectX-compatible video card, DirectX-compatible sound card, 2x CD-ROM drive, 700 MB hard-disk space, and 28.8 kbps modem

Recommended:
Penium III 450 MHz, 128 MB RAM, 32 MB DirectX-compatible video card, 1 GB hard-disk space, and 56 kbps modem

I am sooo lost in this game. I can't figure out any of the commands... And why do i walk soooooo slllooooowwww

/run doesn't work!!!

Bleh I think I'll just wait to open WoW on Christmas, this game is major dullsville... kinda obvious why it's free. Well at least I know that I have no interest in playing AO now. I was always kind of wondering about it, so it wasn't a total waste :)

The learning curve is steep, but once you get to know the controls and functions, it really has more options then most of the other mmorpgs.

For walking slow, there should be an auto run option or button that must you must have hit.
the game doesnt become fun until you leave the backyard training areas and see the real world. It takes some time to get comfortable with the controls.

Also to form a clan, youll have to choose the same side. No one has mentioned if they chose clan or OmniTek. :?

great, I should be fine then.

I'm Grunty on RK2. Played last night long enough to make a character....I'm sure I'll rack up some hours over the weekend.

Well I, Deadpoolxx am a Soldier level 5 and i joined Omni-Tek. They seemed like a bunch of pricks so i joined right up!

Oh and i am on RK2.

It's getting a bit better, but i don't know how long i'll be able to stick with it. I played EQ for 3 months (i made 4 different characters thinking things would get better). I played SWG for 2 months, and i played FFXI for 2 months. These games just don't really hold my intrest much.

That looks like the server I'm going to join, since the majority of the CAG newbies are choosing it as well.

RK2 it is - the "official" home of the CAG newbies!

Jeremy
is everyone on rk2?
Yeah, I'm finally in on the newbie area on RK2. From what some of the people on the server have been saying, the newbie areas are instanced so we probably wont run into each other until we actually get into the real game. I don't know if that is true or not, but that's what I have been told.

I'm currently a Solitus Enforcer, but after seeing some of those guys bustin caps on Reef Salamanders, I might change.

how do you know if you need to patch...i think mines is allready the latest verion....the thing is as im creating my charecter it always crashes on me

I downloaded the exe from FilePlanet. Once I installed it, the server drop down list showed "needs patch" next to it. I picked RK2 and hit the Get Patch button. It downloaded patches FOREVER and then began to run them. Every few patches or so, it tells you that you need to exit the patch program and accept the EULA. You need to do this over and over again until it tells you that all patches are installed.

If you don't see the "needs patch" next to the server name, I assume the version you downloaded was already patched (or is jacked up).

character Dancingdoc, a level two doctor in section 2, I think I am beginning to understand the basics but looks like I have a lot of reading to do this weekend to figure out the game's interface.

Downloaded this game yesterday... looks really weird. I may not have enough time to master the basics of this MMO since it's so different than the MMORPGs I normally play.

I got the game on Wednesday and started experimenting with a couple of characters on RK-1, but I think I may have screwed them over by leaving the "newb island" too soon. Fighting wild animals on an island isn't nearly as interesting as some of the stuff I saw on the screenshots, but I guess we all have to start somewhere.

Right now I'm on RK-2 as Deustone, a level 4 female Opifex Engineer. I still haven't left the newb island, and am probably leaning toward Omni-Tek (not so much personally, but I think that would be good for her character).

Does anyone know how much to level up before leaving the newbie area? I'm almost a level 5 Enforcer, but I'm not sure how long I can stomach bashing Beach Leets.

just made my character. Its late. I'll probably continue later. Anyway my name is 'DPatel304' and im an Opifex adventurer.

anyone know how long it takes to leave the newbie area?

Okay I'm on. My character is Spotanime, and I'm a Human Male Soldier, RK2. I just crash-landed on Rubi-Ka and am helping out the medic identifying and killing the beach life.

A couple things:

1. I saw there is a friends list. Is anyone using this?
2. Is there any way to enable voice chat, and if so is anyone using it?

Jeremy

I signed up as Gamefreak. I really need to get used to this. So far it seems as if Nano are like spells and crystals are like scrolls (ie upload and then you can "execute" (cast) them).

Edit: And I'm on the 2nd world.

Well I am currently a lvl 6 doctor named Dancingdoc in world 2, now a recruit of the clan. With all the games I currently have unplayed I am seriously considering whether this is worth the time investment needed to figure out all the nuances to the point where it is actually fun. Long time players of AO, any thoughts?

You can leave the newb backyard areas at level 2 i think . If you leave you can always go back if you find missions too hard. Every backyard looks the same.
Ya the game is great fun once you get a good understanding of the game works and become comfortable with the controls.

Theres a friends list in ther somewhere, cant remember the key to hit, but if you add your friends it will tell you whether they are online or off and you can always leave them a message if they are offline . it will buffer the message and they wil see it the next time they log on. Like an answering machine.

Once you guys leave the newb zones, try to find a mission terminal. They lok like futurisitc ATMs throught the cities. You can choose customized missions from it for any level. Use the sliders to shoose hard or easy (default will be your exact level )
Use the advanced sliders on the pop down menu to chose whter you prefer more xp or more money as a reward along with your item reward. You level up fast enough in the game so I suggest going with money, which will always be useful.
If you guys are still playing when i get my new comp, ill stop in and give a tour , although im not too good with clan side, i know my way around OmniTek no prob.
