Bill Nye, the harmless children's edu-tainer known as "The Science Guy," managed to offend a select group of idiot adults in Waco when he suggested that the moon does not emit light.

As even most elementary-school graduates know, the moon reflects the light of the sun but produces no light of its own.

But don't tell that to the good people of Waco, who were "visibly angered by what some perceived as irreverence," according to the Waco Tribune.

Nye was in town to participate in McLennan Community College's Distinguished Lecture Series. He gave two lectures on such unfunny and adult topics as global warming, Mars exploration, and energy consumption.

But nothing got people as riled as when he brought up Genesis 1:16, which reads: "God made two great lights -- the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars."

The lesser light, he pointed out, is not a light at all, but only a reflector.

At this point, several people in the audience stormed out in fury. One woman yelled "We believe in God!" and left with three children, thus assuring that people across America would read about the incident and conclude that Waco is as nutty as they'd always suspected.

Try and excuse some of the author's "slant," it makes for a much better read.
Hey Bill Nye is the man.
And in no way has Ugamer contested that fact. (?)

Also, goddammit I'm so sick and tired of people from my state making us look bad.

Bill Nye is indeed the man. Does his show still come on?

Oh, and yeah, some people are really fucking dumb.

My bad i was tired. Musta read the end wrong. Why do people have to be so difficult when it comes to religion and science? Its like we prove them wrong and they just flat out deny it and try to strike back at it with something ridiclous. Like some say the earth is only a few thousand years old and they have proven it 1000%. WTF?!?!?

But aren't we supposed to revere our diversity in culture and beliefs? I look at it as the best country in the world becuase we have the freedom to believe that dinosaurs lived with humans only 6000 years ago and the moon is really green cheese.

Bill apparantly has a new show called i think Eyes of Nye but we dont get if here.:( Its only in select parts of the country. Im going to go find the opening credits song to his first show.

I guess its a good thing he didn't get onto the topic of dinosaurs. They probably would have really flipped then.

Haha, that would've been great though. "Dinosaurs are not millions of years old, those fossils were planted by the devil/God to trick us/test our faith and/or they're real but actually young and Adam and Eve lived with dinosaurs and the T-Rexes didn't eat them because animals didn't eat meat until THE FALL!"

I wonder if there are people that actually hold all three of those to somehow simultaneously be true...

I'll have to see if I can watch some Bill Nye, I miss his lame but still interesting science stuff.

EDIT: Haha, I just went to www.billnye.com and the loading screen is the evolution of man, blasphemy!
And there's also Beakman with his doubting Thomas of a Giant Rat, Lester.
Well I can already tell you that the other argument besides the "fossils are a trick" is that the bible isn't "exact" when it talks about the 7 days thing. I remember asking about dinosaurs in sunday school when I was about 7 or 8 years old and that was the answer I got. The teacher kind of got a little mad too and quickly changed the subject.

Oh yeah, I forgot that one, where the 7 days is actually representative of some other unit of time that makes it equal to the actual age of the earth. They use that one for everything though, not just dinosaurs :p. It depends on how hardcore your church is to what excuse they use, the most hardcore fundies just go with the "it's all lies" approach rather than actually reasoning something out.

And to somewhat be more on topic, that eyes of nye show looks good, aimed more at older people. I don't think they show it on my local PBS though, I'll have to find torrents or something.
