horrible new US title for the game, but at least we finally get another in the series.

How is it a horrible title? It describes the game perfectly. The fact that they're keeping Oneechanbara in the title is a miracle.

Very Snakes on a Plane title.

If this is cheap - which it should be - I'd pick it up just for the sheer size of the balls displayed by the brave publisher.

I also think it'll be hilarious spotting people in stores who are legitimately interested in the game, but lack the mental capacity and perserverance to actually attempt to say the title. Most people give up after the first two or three letters on any word.

I think I'll be the only guy very proud to get this game.

I'll just walk up to the register in a loud voice, "Don't worry! Bikini Zombie Slayers! We're All Safe People! Bikini Zombie Slayers!" All while walking without bending my knees and not blinking.

So this is a game about fanservice and killing zombies. I may need to buy this just for the lolz from my friends . Actually the game doesn't look that bad to me (watched a you tube clip of a game from the series).

This game reminds me of how games are falsely represented in movies/TV/commercials. It's so outrageous that it looks like a fake game I'd see on TV somewhere.

Anyway, I'll be getting this for shits and giggles. I hope the translations are terrible for extra lulz...

Well this is a surprise its coming stateside. I have this. Its not as bad as it sounds. Its basically going from room to room and hacking away at zombies. You can do a sexy taunt to make them come at you crazy and it makes them drop more stuff. The special thing this game does is that your sword gets dirty/blood soaked and you have to clean it every so often or the damage you deal becomes minimal. Its just a quick button press/waggle you need to do that makes you watch the meter.

I'd imagine the US version will have some campy voice acting, which will be fitting. Everyone needs to buy this.

Looks like only one of them is wearing a bikini?

This caption is full of win: "Without a shirt or a pair of pants to hold her back, Aya enjoys a large bonus to her agility"

Horrible name change, but I'm glad the game is making it out of Japan.

Every Wii owner does need to buy this game.

I should be getting this if I have enough cash in my wallet. I'm going to ignore the plastic and stare at the paper. Bad plastic.

"Bikini Zombie Slayers"? What do you have against zombies wearing bikinis?

(I kid, I kid...)

I have never visited Games Radar and now I see I haven't been missing anything. The screenshots were too annoying to view since the site is slow as fuck and it's using Web 0.9 where everything gets reloaded despite looking like it has a slick ajax interface. Not to mention the pop-under ads.

Sold.

It seems like I read a really negative review of this a few months ago, but I could be thinking of some other bikini zombie-slayer game. I've been wanting more games like this on the Wii. I find it very relaxing to kill many, many things with a sword. Your description is making me think of the PS2 Seven Samurai remake or Samurai Western.

I'm interested in playing it because I've heard some enthusiastic reviews about it. Yakumo at Retrocore gave it a very favorable segment.

The only bad thing is that there will be purple blood.

Also the game was released in Japan as a budge title, so hopefully D3 US will do the same.

You sure about that?

VG Rebirth has it listed as a full price sku.

Play-asia has it for $60, last I checked as well.
Yes its a budget title as its technically part of those "Simple Series" games.
I was being polite... I didn't wanna just say "No, it's not." I knew it was it's own series now. I was tryin' to give him an out. It's not part of the Simple Wii series.

D3's official site

フルプライス お姉チャンバラ Revolution

価格:5,800円(税別)
5800 yen is a full price title.
The Wii version is just a port while the Xbox 360 is more like a remake with updated graphics
I'm starting to feel like a dick....

No, it's not. It's a new title. Chronologically the games go:

5. The Oneechanbara VorteX (Xbox 360)
6. The Oneechanbara Revolution (Wii)
It's the 6th game, but Vol. 80 and 101 are upgraded re-releases. Now I'm not positive that VorteX is a completely new title, but I know 80 and 101 are upgrade ports.

It actually has pretty good Wiimote support, for example one unlockable character has a machinegun which you can aim light gun style at the screen.

It's nice to have more games where I can just turn my brain off and just hack and slash my way through mindless mooks when I'm not in the modd to play an RPG.

If it's a budget title when it's released here, I'll definitely give it a go.

Looks like early next year for the US release of this (I've seen everything from February to April listed - these guys seem to think February: http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/...s.php?topic_id=m-1-45541047&pid=943440&page=2).

I've been playing the Japanese version nonstop the last few days and it's wonderful in that it's exactly what I was hoping for. There are many zombies and much slaying, some bikini. I only found and resurrected this thread because I have no idea how to "slay" the blood smoke zombie and am not quite clear on the partial faq on gamefaqs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/wii/file/943440/52297).

Oh well; apparently you don't have to slay them to progress, so I will hop back in my bikini, cock my hip, and douse myself in stringy magenta zombie goo.

Comes out tomorrow. Amazon has it for $37, $3 off retail. If the coop in this is any fun I might pick it up. If anyone gets it please post back some impressions.

I could use a good co-op game. I'd imagine it'd be co-op on the 360 version, too?

Regardless, like any Wii game.. I might just wait until it's cheap ($20ish) to try it out.

I'll assume they change nothing but the language for the US release of this, so my impressions should carry over.

I was sold from the "Loading" screen of this game - you can slash the remote like a sword in any direction and the appropriate slash appears on the screen until the whole thing crumbles. Yes, there is a lot of "waggle" (how I hate that term and all the negative connotations it now carries) all the way through the game. No, it is not 1:1 swordplay (if you want it that so badly go take up fencing). As long as you can handle those two things, it is extremely fun.

The basic gameplay has you moving through limited environments (hallways, garden pathways, parking garages) with occasional branching pathways or secret areas. In certain areas, a bony fence erupts from the ground and traps you until you kill all the zombies in the area. Beyond that, the game is a lot of zombie killing. You don't need as much strategy as something like Dynasty Warriors, but there are certain zombies you'll want to target first because they are faster or stronger or have long-range attacks (like the zombie cops and their guns). The enemies are more plentiful than in something like Samurai Western or God Hand but not as numerous as DW. The closest thing I can really think of in terms of gameplay is Seven Samurai 20XX for PS2.

There are four characters (I think), two of which are initially available. You have the option of switching between one of two stances for each character. For example, the default Slayer has two swords but her default stance is to use one sword (remote) and kick (nunchuk) and keep the other sword in reserve to throw. Switching stances gives you both swords to use but takes away the throw ability. Each character feels different and I really like taking turns playing levels between someone with swords and someone with just metal gloves. The punching/grabbing is very visceral and responsive and changes the whole feel of the game because you have to get much closer to the zombies.

The characters offer distinctly different story paths as well as play styles. There are a few levels where I thought I was just going to be playing the same level I had with another character, but for the most part these "replay" levels cover another part of the area not explored with the other character.

There are a few extra modes, but honestly I have not played them. I enjoy the level structure enough that I'd rather replay a favorite level (you can jump to any you've beaten) than see how long I can stay alive in an endless horde or something. I also have not tried a co-op mode, so I cannot comment on that.

Graphically, the game looks like one of the better (not the best) PS2 games. The art direction is primarily realistic and it's a nice change to play a Wii game without smiling, bobbling, giant-headed freaks. Instead you get bobbling breasts and shuffling freaks. Actually, the game is not nearly as gratuitous as you would expect; while playing you are generally treated to a back view of your character and she's usually in motion slashing zombies. You do unlock new outfits for the Slayers, but it's not a substantial part of the game. There is a nice range of zombie types, and even within the "classes" of zombie there is a lot of variety. Some zombies have weapons based on their type, but some can randomly have a chainsaw or other weapon.

I do really enjoy this game and couldn't recommend it more highly to someone who likes these any combination of two of these three things:

- Hack-and-slash gameplay. Not a lot of depth here, just chopping up zombies over and over again.
- "Waggle" attacks. Yes, you have to move your arms a lot, but it works.
- Zombies. (Actually, everyone likes zombies)
Sounds neat. I can't say $40 neat, though. But def neat!
For some reason I thought it was supposed to be $29.99. I'd say $30 is a much better MSRP for this, but maybe zombies are popular enough right now to get the extra $10 out of everyone who would have bought it anyway. It's definitely a better "zombie experience" than the House of the Dead games and I'd even say better than the Resident Evil games. The RE games are much better games overall, but not good at playing up the whole "plague of zombies" thing.
I really want to try this game, but I'm not sure if I should try it on the 360 or the Wii.
They are two different games.
Wii = $30 (sequel to 360 game)
360 = $40

Aha, thanks.

In that case I'm not sure which one I should try first. The whole "sequel" thing makes me want to play the 360 one first, but I feel like I might get less out of the Wii game if I play the 360 one first since I'll be tuned to the graphically superior 360 version.

that's hilarious. your eyes are rejecting lesser quality images...

and the blood is moot too.

I'll grab it when it gets around 20

...No. It's similar the playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on the Virtual Console after playing Super Mario Bros. 3 on the All-Star compilation. Same game, but after playing the graphically updated edition the first one seems lackluster. Same idea.

I don't get that, Rocko. I mean... I understand it with regards to Onechanbara, but not Mario 3 at all - the cleaned up All-Star version just feels too... beautified. I mean, I'm sure it was awesome at the time and yeah it still looks nice, but it doesn't have the charm of the original.

I played the shit out of the All Stars version on the SNES, and when I grabbed SMB3 on the VC I just found myself disappointed. Everything looked so bland to me, since I was used to the vibrant colors of the All Stars version.

Not the first time ever, but I never played it extensively with the original graphics, as I never owned it on the NES. The first time I owned the game was on All Stars, so that's the version I played the most.

I can see your likely upcoming point that if I played it a lot with the original graphics I would appreciate them more, which is a different situation than this Onechanbara one.

Heh. That's not my likely upcoming point - that's what I was getting at with my initial response to you (and I included your counterargument to it, too).

Still though, it's not as if gameplay is affected...then that you don't play anything old either?

Where are you drawing the line here... bad/older graphics or the same game done in HD vs HD-wannabe.

Didn't someone point out that it's a sequel...

I could understand not watching the same movie, or re-reading a book, but this is like not going to the theater because waiting for the movie to go on bluray 6 months later to watch at home because of the graphics.

I would treat both games as different, since it will be.
