[OOS Online]Coleco Sonic Handheld on clearance for $20 at Target.com

D. Monic

CAGiversary!
Update: It's now OOS online. Many Target stores still have them, but they're ringing up at full price. Keep price checking them in store; hopefully, they'll go on clearance in-store soon.

You can still use the Target.com link at the bottom of this post and then click the "Find it at a Target store" button to check for availability in your area.

----------------------

This deal is mainly for collectors and Sega/Sonic fans. The Coleco Sonic handheld system is now on clearance for $20 at Target.com. It used to be $50. Basically, this handheld has 20 built-in Sega Master System/Game Gear games. What's really funny is that this thing even has TV-out capabilities! Yes, Sony couldn't include that on the $200 PSP, but this little-known budget portable has it.

Games included are:
- Sonic Drift 2
- Sonic Triple Trouble
- Alex Kidd in High-Tech World
- Alex Kidd in Miracle World
- Altered Beast
- Assault City
- Astro Warrior
- Aztec Adventure
- Bomber Raid
- Columns
- Ecco II: The Tides of Time
- Fantasy Zone
- Fantasy Zone: The Maze
- Global Defense
- Kung Fu Kid
- The Ninja
- Penguin Land
- Quartet
- Snail Maze
- Super Columns

You can buy the system either at Target.com or Amazon.com (via Target of course) using the links below.

If you want more information about the system, click here for a review. I also recommend reading the reviews at the Amazon link.

Shipping was a little steep at $6.99. I think I'll just stick with the Sega Genesis Collection on PSP.

Why are you singling out the PSP? None of Nintendo's portables have ever had TV-out capabilities either.

How about because the PSP had some useless movie
format with no way to watch on a decent size screen?

There is a gambeboy player for use on TV by the way.

Anyway this Coleco device looks great. When did Coleco come back from the dead?

Aw, fuck, I've been keeping my eye on this at Target B&M. I was going to check it today while I was there but I didn't bother.

Anyone know if these are on clearance in store as well?

It says in stores on the website, of course that doesn't mean that they will actually be there.
Thanks for the link.
Available at three stores less than 6 miles....
FYI to save everyone the effort - I was at Target tonight and they were scanning full price ($50).

Awesome. And thank you djak1, for the coupon code.

Another coupon code. I don't think it stacks, but just in case that one dies: TGTSAVE3

Definitely thanks to the CAGers who posted coupon codes. I am in for one! Columns and Altered Beast on the go? Yes please!! :applause:

it looks too cool. I bought one. I need it like I need a whole in the head, anyway I love the classics and the reviews on it are very good

This is one of those things that are cool that I'd spend money on just cause of cool factor... must resist the low price!

It's called DVD, dude. Everything the PSP's released on UMD movie format is available on DVD and at a cheaper price. >_>

Attachment to the GameCube. Not an actual connection from the Game Boy to the TV.

Here's a better one. What the heck's a Coleco "handheld" doing with Sega games?

Proof you've never watched a UMD. I don't own a PSP but have seen about 30 minutes of an actual UMD and I can see it's merits, the only problems are high pricepoints and repeat purchases, perhaps if it had more exclusive content or it was cheaper [more along the price of videonow/hitclips products]the format would have been a lot more popular

Lame. Do people have to be bashing stuff even in totally unrelated posts? Especially since *no mainstream portable ever* (that I can recall, anyway) has had video out.

That said, this sounds like a pretty good deal for what it is, but I think I'll just stick to emulating these games on my PSP...

I think the Sega Nomad had video out.

Right you are (and I even had one of those for a while). Still, I think the Nomad is on the outer limits of "mainstream."
anyone know of any handhelds like this? BTW this is just what I need for long trips
You mean other handhelds like this?

Thanks OP. Picked this one up through Target.com (gives me an excuse to use my Target card). Should be a cool little pickup. I've seen them in store, and the build quality looks NICE, but not $50 nice (at least, not for a bunch of aging games...odd I say that when I'd shell out for them on the Virtual Console or Live Arcade).

Dang, this is tempting at this price. I spent some time Googling it, but had no luck finding out how "moddable" the thing is. Anyone seen any pages talking about hacking this thing to do more than play the 20 built-in titles?

I almost bought this because it looks neat, but then realized I probably wouldn't buy these games if they were on a $20 cartridge for DS or psp. Plus many of these games are on gametap.

In for one.. Thanks OP!

This is worth it for fantasy zone alone! I spent countless hours trying to beat this game... What a hard game..
almost pulled the trigger.. but after tax and shipping it came to nearly $30, and I'd rather have lunar knights for the DS at that price.
I agree, $7.00 shipping for a $19 item is high. If you could get it at the B&M, it would be just a little over $20 With tax. The ones at the store are still ringing up at $50 though, at least in my area.
