I was wondering what was the best cingular cell phone out there? I was looking at either the razr or the slvr (sp?). I was looking to see if any would let you record your own ring tones. But what ever you guys recommend.

ok well this is a subject near and dear to my heart because i work in cingular wireless' warranty dept.

Please do not buy a razr they are complete and utter crap (otherwise u may be talking to me soon)

Slivers are ok

The phone i really like is the Sony Erricson W600i but we recently stopped selling them for some reason maybe because we are slated to start carrying the w800i very soon. the reason that the w600 is nice is because it is a MP3 player and comes with the cable to hook it up to your computer.

go to phonescoop.com to readup on the different phones

dejavu: I really like the Razr's design. Can you recommend any other slim, flip phones? That's what I'm most interested in.

What's the range and description of problems the RAZR has? We have two, so far, we have had only one problem, but that was an easy at home fix. The phone would reset every now and again. I cleaned the battery contacts with IPA and it has worked fine since that.

Hey thanks, could you tell me what was wrong with the razrs? BTW I am going to be joining you at cingualr, but I'll be at a call center, fun.

/sigh i opened a can of worms with my first post didnt I lol

dejavu: I really like the Razr's design. Can you recommend any other slim, flip phones? That's what I'm most interested in.

well if u like slim and flip the only option that cingular has is the razr so i guess u can take ur chances with it unless there are other options through other carriers idk. (guess ill be talking to you soon)

ok now for this one...

the razrs have a problem where they drop a call randomly anywhere between 8-16 minutes (phones purchased between jan 06 and march 06)

they also have issues with the carging system not working properly where the start to not charge at all or just power off whenever they want w/o reason

also on alot of the phones produced until maybe 2 months ago they have an issue with the seal between the earpiece and the display is not working quite right. This makes it so dust/debris can get under the screen which cannot be cleaned. But the phone can be replaced for it.

also alotta calls about just the display not working in general

I'd estimate that over 50% of the calls we recieve on replacement phones are for the razrs

Hey thanks, could you tell me what was wrong with the razrs? BTW I am going to be joining you at cingualr, but I'll be at a call center, fun.

heh im at a call center myself u workin for cingular or as a 3rd party consultant and what branch of the system? warranty, Cust care, billing, sales, etc...

I think the RAZR is way overrated.

I too have the Ericsson W600i...and i think it's fantastic.

Better hurry before theyre all gone though...

If you don't mind paying a little more Cingular should be getting the Ericsson W810i soon (I think they passed on the W800, because its triband and whereas the W810 is quad.

I have the w800 and love it except I think its ugly and now wish I had the 810 heh.

After going to the phone scoop website I have ruled out the razr, but what about the rizr? it is a toss up rigt now between the rizr (when its out) the w810 and the slvr l7. In your professional opinion dejavu which one?

I think it depends what features do you need the most?

For example do you like sliders better than candy bars?

Also how much memory do you want in your phone? Do you use an ipod already? I dont use one, so my 800 works great for me and so far has been able to take up to 4gb duo cards. The RIZR takes up to 1gb and the SLVR 512mb.

Even if youre not worried about mp3s memory may still matter if you take a lot of pics or video, which leads to the camera. How much does that matter to you? The 810 and RIZR both have 2 megapixel ones while the SLVR only has a VGA camera.

Also is money an object? You can get unlocked 810s now for about $300, slvr's are pretty cheap and I'm not sure how much the RIZR is gonna cost yet.

I don't use internet much on my phone so I can't comment much on the capablities such as EDGE and such.

Of all those I think the 810 looks sweet, but I've yet to see the RIZR in person.

So I think it just depends on what you need, I chose my phone for all of its multimedia stuff just because I didn't have a lot of those things (mp3 player) seperately, but I can totally see how its useless to some people and paying for it is a waste.

Well it would be nice to have the mp3 player feature. Im not a big fan of the bar though (afraid of scratching the screen.) The w810 is looking better and better. I am gonna have to fid a store where I can play with these.

Yeah the sony mp3 player is nice, and the SLVR has iTunes so that might better if you use that too, but a lot of people don't like the memory limit and I cant comment on the RIZR.

Also for my 800 i use this Exim screen protector http://cgi.ebay.com/EXiM-SPUC-Scree...12247645QQihZ018QQcategoryZ3311QQcmdZViewItem
It's amazing, its reusable, washable and honestly you never notice its there.
People are also fans of Martin Fields brand, but I think the Exim is a little clearer.
I also got mine from that seller so he's reliable even with 99.6%.

If you have a good Chinatown or Sony Style Store (even though they charge $500(!) for the damn thing) you can probably track down a 810

Obviously you can find SLVRs everywhere.

my razor drops calls all the timew/ full signal it sucks in the worst way and this is my second one cingular replaced the first one. meterola has acknoledged that is broken but they refuse to fix it. I can't wait to get a new phone!!!! the razor sux!

I have the w600 i absolutely love it i have lost all respect for anything moto but eh the sliver is not that bad compared to the razr and i have yet to see the rizr. I wil definately think about upgrading my phone to the w810 when i can get it but who knows when that will happen.

i heard that you cannot keep the same # if you use the same provider again? is that true?

i want a phone that is good camera wise and if it has mp3 player it is a plus

also, where should i go get my phone? at a big retail store (best buy) or like a little asian store somewhere?

any other helpful information would be nice

thanks

no...you can keep your same number wherever you go; same or different provider.

do you have a certain price range you're looking for?
no...you can keep your same number wherever you go; same or different provider.
You can keep your phone number if you switch provider. I've been doing that for the past 3 years switching from T-Mobile to Cingular to Verizon. I go to the little Asian stores (aside that because I'm Asian  ) because they have much better phone selection. I've been eyeing the Ericsson W900i and it is becoming a free phone with 1 year contract in some Asian stores, depending on your phone plan. If you check for prices that W900i phone costs close to $500 if you buy new.

sweet, i live in orange county so cal, where there are a lot of Asian stores

i forgot, i get a family plan with my family

i would love to find a w900 for free w/contract

i will check out little asian stores this month

also, when do they give the best deals on cell phones, labor day is the next holiday, do you think i should wait till then?

I cant seem to find the w900 on phone scoop, it is better than the w810? Now that I look at it it is looking pretty good. Where can I find this phone? And I cant find anywhere for sure that says it is for cingular.

I have had the w600i since last December and have had no problems whatsoever aside from having it on 24/7 and the battery life is getting shorter and shorter. The camera is freaking sweet for a phone and the music playback w/built in radio have come in handy quite a bit and I love it.

W900i can only be imported in the past year, but I think it may be coming to our retail shore very soon if it hasnt happened yet. W900i is definitely better than the W810, but the W900 is bigger and more bulky. So if you want a slim phone then the W900 isn't for you. But if you want a nice all-in-one with large built-in & expandable memory, and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg with contract, this is the phone to get for Cingular. Check out those Asian weekly magazines for phone advertisement. You can find lots of deals much much better than the retail stores in the mall.

Here's the UK page for the W900i

One thing with the w900 though is where do you live? The 900 is a triband phone which means its missing the 850 band. Cingular uses 850 and 900 band for its reception. I ask where you live b/c if you live in a big city it really won't matter if you're only using half of the towers around. If you live in a smaller town its proven to be problematic getting reception.

I live in NYC with my 800 which is triband, but it doesn't matter and I still get full bars. However if I go upstate to a small town it gets really shitty.

Also SOSTrooper says its coming here and if does Sony Ericsson will have to add the 850 band as Cingular turns down phones that are triband and not quad. So that is something to keep an eye out for, but I havent heard any timetable on it.

However you are free to use triband phones on T-Mobile as they only use the 900 band.

Oddly enough after talking up the w600 that i have on here i started to have some significant problems with it this week and since we are out of it in the warranty dept i had to replace it w/ something different. I thought about it and decided that the camera is not that important to me and decided that i was going to get the NOKIA 9300 as a replacement for it.

Pros: still has mp3
full keyboard as well as widescreen html internet access
expandable memory

Cons: NO VIBRATE FEATURE (at all)
no camera

The thing is basically a blackberry that looks like a regular candybar phone... im not sure if im gonna like it yet but my choices were this the nokia 6682, samsung D807, L7 sliver, V3 Razr, or the LG (i dont care im not getting an LG phone).

Hopefully ill like it but for the time being im kinda meh about it

I have problems with my W600i

The first one got a white screen of death, 16 hours after I recieve it
My second one randomly shutdown on me:cry:

The Best Cingular phone may not be offered by Cingular. I got an unlocked SE W810i and I love it. Awesome camera, can hold a 2 GB Pro Duo Memory Stick, if you download the Sony Ericsson WAP settings you can get Opera, numerous images...themes...ringtones...etc for free.

I just got an Ericsson W600i unlocked a few days ago and I am loving it.

Also, dont get a RAZR. Not only are they everywhere, but they are also made like shit.

Ok, so does anyone know of a place that I can get a w900 ericsson phone, as in the best deal I doubt that anyone around here has them? And in responce to a ealier post I live in springfield, Illinois So I am not sure how that bands are here, we are not a small city.

I did a little research and it turns out the 900 is discontinued, so you're going to be paying probably 400-500 for one. I usually get all my stuff in chinatown here in NYC so I'm not well versed in stores online, but myworldphone.com is known to be reliable but they cost a little more. And there are some reliable ebay sellers whos names escape me at the moment.

If you're gonna wanna spend that much you may want to consider the new k800i/k790i which is a classier looking version of the w810 and instead of walkman branded its Sony Cybershot branded and it features a 3.2 megapixel camera instead of 2 in the 810. The k800/790 has the walkman and stuff too, and pictbridge but uses Sony's new Micro memory cards instead of the Pro Duos.

The difference b/w the 800 and 790 is 790 has EDGE support which is better for the US, but both are still triband, which should be okay for where you live, but I cant comment from real experience. Also the 790 is supposedly the US version of the phone and might be coming to carriers but oddly is listed on Sony's page as triband for now.

k790 specs:

Well actually I was looking for a black slide phone like the 900 or the 600 ( but the 600 is white and orange and Im not a big fan.)

I have a Nokia 6680 cell phone... It's good because it has a 1.3 megapixel camera, another VGA camera for video calls, MP3 Player, up to 1GB Expandable MMC Dual Voltage, .WAV Ringtones/MP3 Ringtones, Themes, Wallpapers, etc...

However, the price is at $600. I'm thinking of selling mine cuz i want a PS3! lol

fuck fuck fuck.

I JUST got a black RAZR yesterday, spent 100.00 on it. Didn't see this thread 'till now.

My brothers had his for over a year now and has had no problems so I thought why not.

And now everyone here is bashing it....shit.

damnit... my black razr got stolen today. I went to the cingular store, they gave me a replacement sim for free. Need to find a new phone, but I have to pay retail price..... What would be the best way to get a cheap phone? I'm interested in the cingular 2125, nokia 9300, and some samsung phone...

Here's something i found recently for Cingular: they have special pricing for organizations and (more importantly) universities. There's a link on the homepage for it (kinda small, so I just noticed it), where you enter your school email address and they send you the link to the Primier site.

There's some nice deals on plans there I think, got the 700-min family plan for $60/mo. (~$10 savings), and they have plenty of discounts for phones. I was going to buy through amazon, but saving $10 a month seemed better. This thread's been a lot of help to me, I got the Samsung D807, but will probably get a Sony Ericsson later when I got the cash for such things.

I was going to buy the w600i as soon as I bought my newest car this summer, and ofcourse as soon as I go to get it it's no longer on the site. It was only going to cost me $50 after rebate since my 2 year contract is over and im getting to upgrade my phone. I did call and ask and found out the newer one is coming...Is there any kind of time table out there? I've waited a while for an upgrade and waiting and waiting kind've just sucks. It's definitely the phone I plan on purchasing, I wish I had more answers.

Yeah sadly Cingular can be pretty slow or change dates a lot when it comes to the new phones...so its a tough wait yeah.

But Fall usually sees a lot of new releases preparing for the holidays.

I have a RAZR and have NO problems with it. No dropped calls. The battery seems to drain quickly, but that is my fault....as I charged it every night before letting it drain. Still lasts all day for sure...no biggie. Usually two days actually.

My wife has a PEBL for Cingular (got it unlocked on EBAY). She likes it, no real issues except that sometimes she gets NETWORK BUSY when trying to call. But that could be a cingular problem.

I know this thread has practically died off, but I'm signing up for Cingular in the next 24-48 hours. I basically have to go with them because the other providers have shitty coverage in Alabama (including Verizon).

I know everybody is all about the w600 and w 810, but I need a flip/clamshell. The only one that I can find that is decent and on Cingular's website is the Samsung D407. Has anyone had experience with this phone? Can anyone tell me if there's something better that has been taken off of their website? I'm needing one with camera, bluetooth, speakerphone, and great reception.

Phonescoop is only showing phones that are currently offerred, and I'm unfamiliar with their offerred devices to do a full comprehensive search.

A friend of mine has the sliver and supposedly the battery drains super quickly during mp3 playback (roughly 2 hours). It could just be a problem with his phone but it may be something you should research...

I know someone who had a SLIVR, and had battery problems as well. I'm reading info on the Sony W300i (or Z530), but doubt it's carried in any of the local stores. It comes with a USB cable, memory card, etc.

Anybody had experience with the Sony Z525? I'm wanting a clamshell, but Cingular just seems to suck with them.
I was wondering what was the best cingular cell phone out there? I was looking at either the razr or the slvr (sp?). I was looking to see if any would let you record your own ring tones. But what ever you guys recommend.
No such thing. There is nothing about Cingular that is anywhere near good. You can tie two tins cans together with a string and get better service. Their customer service people are rude and incompetent. If your phone should ever stop working then be prepared to bend over because you better believe you are going to get screwed. Do yourself a favor and go with anyone but Cingular.
