OPM should change the name to Offensive Playstation Magazine

Just got the recent OPM in the mail today and I had to read the date twice to make sure it was the right month. Why, do you ask? Because 2 of the demos are Paperboy and Smash TV from the Midway Classics disk released many months ago. Scooby Doo Mystery Mayhem is also a game that has been on the shelves for months. And please correct me if I'm wrong, but demos for MVP Baseball 2004 and Slugfest are also a little late seeing that baseball season started over 2 months ago.

The other irk is that there is no mention of E3 at all. Granted, there is a great writeup of the PSP, and I know they go to press well before the issue gets to the stands, but don't you think they could have held the presses for at least a short insertion of the largest gaming show of the year? I got a Game Informer over 10 days ago and even they had an E3 insert. At the very least, they should have had the scoop on the Sony booth contents and could have inserted a synopsis of the new products in this month's magazine.

And do we really need a "Track Grand Turismo 4" feature every month? Everybody always says the same thing. We collect data, we make great game. We love cars, we make great game. We make accurate maps, we love this. At least tell us when the freaking game is going to come out already. This is almost as bad as waiting for Halo 2.

I don't think I'll be renewing my subscription next year. Is there anybody out there who gets OXM and OPM and can compare the two for me?

although i haven't seen the newest issue, maybe they're waiting until next month to do the E3 coverage albeit alittle late. i agree that some mags are extremely slow in putting out the news though....

thats very normal since mags finish up their issues almost 2 months in advance. keep in mind that it takes time to edit, sort, print, package and mail. but 1 thing that i hate bout those demo disc, is that none of them work on my ps2... makes me want to mod my system. but yea.. u wont get any e3 new till next month. no media is faster than internet media, correct me if im wrong. :)

Yeah, but it's the same GT4 movie for months. They don't tell us anything about the progress of the game and they repeat everything that's been done in the previous 2-3 incarnations of the "tracking GT4" movies: We love cars, we are taking copious amounts of measurements and data, isn't this cool, blah, blah, blah. Put another demo on the disk instead, I say.

I find it offensive that with all the coming games for the PS2 they couldn't find any demos save from games that have already been released for 4-6 months. It's a waste of my money.

Most of the games that are coming (that are good anyways) wont be out for many months..

This is a pretty bad demo disc, but its because this is a very slow time and a bad spring for the PS2 . . . the mag itself is so-so . . . a better read than half of the mags out there (like PSM, Gamepro, GMR) but not nearly as good as EGM and Game Informer.

I wish they would put more Japanese games on the disc . . . last year's "Space Fisherman" was a total riot.

Last months demo was pretty good . . . Front Mission 4 and a nice taste of Transformers.

I think they could also "give away" whole games on these demos during slow months . . . even old PS1 games would be welcome.

I got my current sub for $20 through a magazine broker . . . Still I don't know if I will resubscribe.

From what I have seen that mag has no integrity as they often call their readers "morons" and such when responding to their letters.

Yeah, no one has E3 coverage this month . . . the lead time is too great with these publications . . . but the last Game Informer had a great GTA San Andreas article.

Thats a great idea. Space Fisherman was cool, and they really need more Japanese game demos on the disk.

Well I don't really see it as being offensive...if anything you could have said "Omit Playstation Games Magazine" Or something...I don't know.

Now about the integrity, I trust them, ever since Johnny England (J. D.) took over it kind of reminds me of EGM. So it's all good. Now about them calling readers moron...well some of those people deserve it. I mean how stupid are you if you fall for an obvious joke...sticking your DVD or Games in microwave for 1 minute to get rid of scratches. And morons fell for it...and complainin' "Mom says you guys owe me a game". Oh c'mon stupid people...MORONS I say

I got my PSM for free, so i don't care much and i basicly use the to Magazine to improve my English and know which game are good, which games are suck, u know use it to keep me up-to-date on the GAMING world

Yes, this demo disc wasn't that great in this issue, but that's how OPM always is with demos...they have ups and downs on this stuff. Maybe PSU had the Midway Arcade Treasures features and demos ready beforehand but it had to be pushed back to a later disc.

One thing I'm not liking lately, though, is that their demo discs aren't concurrent with their cover stories. If the cover is for NFSU2, I want the demo disc to have some info or video of that game, at least. The demo disc and the OPM issue itself aren't related at all in terms of content.

Anyone notice that ever since the new design change, there hasn't been a preview of what's coming up in the next issue (usually in the P.S. section)? It leaves readers in the dust about what's coming up month after month in the issue and on the disc.

I noticed that, and Im disapointed. I always check there to see what to look forward to in next month's issue.

Obsolete starts with an 'O', as do old and oblivious. Offensive would be if they atarted writing about how cool it is to be a Nazi, or showed naked pictures of Anna Nicole Smith when she was the size of an elephant.

Trust me, you do NOT want to even touch OXM. If you're a retarded 12 year-old who thinks that Xbox is the greatest thing ever and it is impossible for good gaming to exist on any other platform ever, then by all means get it. Otherwise don't. They spend just as much print space praising why they think Xbox is great and PS2/GCN suck as they do actual reviews. Hands down the most childish magazine out there. OPM is an excellent magazine compared to OXM.

i prefer gamepro and EGM, i get both magazines and they are really helpful and fun to read. i would say EGM for those looking for the best magazine, but gamepro is a hella tight mag as well. good luck!

thanks,

hM
