Otomedius Excellent $15.96 FSSS

I think the special edition is just now starting to phase out. If you can find it in a store, I'd suggest picking up it.

I was just looking up prices for the SE today. I rreally wish Gamestop would drop that jazz, there is apparently a copy at a store close to me but $50 is too crazy.

I rented this game and tried it out for a bit and I was pretty sad at what they'd done with the Rype-Type formula. The loli paint they slapped on the game doesn't do anything help the game either.

There are many, many better side-scrollers out there better than this game so save your money.

I agree. I just can't get excited about this game, and I LOVE shmups. I wish Konami had just released a new upgraded Gradius game instead of this. Well at least we have Akai Katana Shin to look forward to, another Cave shmup and its coming to EU/North America thanks to Rising Star Games!

They have alot in the Amazon Warehouse deals. From acceptable to very good.

If you don't care about the condition of the box, you can take a chance on one. That's where I got my SE. I think a large shipment got the boxes damaged or something. My box was banged up and bent, but everything inside was sealed and in perfect condition.

Yeah, I don't know why Gradius VI hasn't been made yet. Even an XBLA/PSN title would be nice.

I liked it pretty well in my review. :) It plays just like a Gradius game and has a fair deal of charm and personality. It's not the best Gradius game ever, but definitely worth a playthrough if you like the series.

I'm more into the vertical shooters than the horizontal ones myself, but at the same time, $20 was the sweet spot I was looking for, so snagged one up. Even if it's not as good as others, it's pretty easy to get at least some enjoyment out of shmups.

IMO metacritic often get it wrong when it comes to rating these sorts of games. Sadly however having played this game the 48 they gave it was way too high.

As a fan of horizontal shumps and a bigger fan of loli cat hybrid anime girls with pasties, even I can't bring myself to pull the trigger on this one.

Deathsmiles should be far above this on everyone's buying priority list. If you don't have that, there's no reason to even be considering Otomedius Excellent. Buy Deathsmiles, instead.

So deathsmiles is far superior to this? I grabbed that a few weeks ago but haven't played it yet, but I think ill skip this. Thanks nonetheless OO

I wasn't a fan of this game but I figured since I owned all of the other shmups on the :360: I might as well pick this one up to.

I also own all the other disc-based shmups on the 360 & and almost every XBLA one that has made it here. This game is getting roughed up pretty bad, even by some in the shmup community so I've been hesitating on this one. Bullet hell shooters have ruined the genre for me, and from what little I've seen this game seems pretty slow paced in comparison. The game has dropped in price every day for the past 10 days. $15 is the breaking point.

I love shmups, it's one of my favorite genres of game, and, like Thrinn, I own most of the disc based shooters on 360 from Deathsmiles to Raiden IV to the imports of Mushihimesama Futari and Espgaluda, and the Euro version of DoDonpachi Ressurection. I've played the Gradius games since the NES, and Gradius V is one of my favorite PS2 games.

Having said that, Otomedius Excellent is my least favorite shooter of this era. The designs annoying, the visuals aren't great, your "ships" are huge and it can be hard to figure out where the hit boxes are, and the bullets often blend into the background and are tough to see.

I was initially worried that the bullet hell games had spoiled me, but I went back to Gradius V and still played that well. I just think that this isn't a good example of the genre. However,if you are a shmup fanatic you'll probably get $10 to $15 of enjoyment out of it. I regret buying the collectors edition when it came out.

I like Otomedius so much more. Better production values of course, and most importantly it's not a bullet hell shooter. Disagree with Garret about the bullets being hard to see. You can also play on Easy to view the hitboxes if that's important to you. But this is one of the easier shmups on 360.

Beat me to it on the hit box. I do agree about the bullets being hard to see in certain areas(notably RB Gofas 1st or 2nd shot) I like Otomedius alot, there are 30 bullet hell style shmups on the 360, its nice to see something different.

My major complaint about the game is the sexual underage girl anime shit. Im embarassed to play the game cause every character seems to be an underage anime girl in skimpy clothing. Its a fun game but I wish I could have or DLC a regular gradius skin. if you can get past that and want to see more shmups head to N.A $18 is a good price.

I don't know why so many of you guys are comparing this game to Gradius. Its more of a spritual successor to Parodius.

And Parodius is a parody of Gradius. I'm pretty sure they compare.

I'm just saying it shouldn't be upheald to the standards set by Gradius, but those set by Parodius. Parodius is also a spoof of Twinbee.

The first Otomedius (which didn't come to America) was closer to Parodius than Excellent, which IMO is more like Gradius. But the DLC stages for Excellent are a bit wackier since they're themed after past Konami games.

Hmm now it's gone down to $17.02! It's as if the price is dropping by about 75 cents every 24 hours. At this rate it should be free within three weeks... :)

This wasn't even worth the price of free. Says a lot that I was given this for free from an anonymous internet person. I might pass it on if I can ever get around to getting all the cards, but that would be like passing a VD around.

Do you consider a troll to be anyone with an opinion that conflicts with yours? Face it: the game is just plain garbage, and is agreed to be by the majority. Deathsmiles is the vastly superior fan-service beginner shump.

Excuse me for getting worked up. It's just sad that such a pile actually exists, but at least the multiple price drops reflect that.

No, but both of your posts are completely devoid of useful information. They're just childish "This game sucks, neener!" which can't be helpful to anybody. The opinion you seem to be expressing is extremely hyperbolic as well - again, useless. If you took the time to explain why you didn't like the game while maintaining a reasonable tone, that might actually be interesting to read, whether or not we agree with your points.

Have cautiously eyed this game for a long time. Now I am afraid to jump on the price because it keeps going down..

You must have missed your troll-calling post between your own informative posts. The game is simply an uninspired mess with obnoxious fan service that dares to even mention the Gradius name on it's cover. Music isn't anything to be remembered, the hitbox is obnoxious(you could easily stealth between line bullets in Gradius) the looping is painfully tedious to get to something even remotely challenging, (green?)bullets do blend in with the environment, backgrounds are boring, the amount of DLC is depressing, characters are obnoxious, the best parts like the upgrading aren't even it's own and don't offer anything new to the table. It's ok to admit you're not a fan of the genre, but even people that aren't can see whats wrong here. Thanks for pretending you'd actually consider a different opinion, as it's obvious its set in stone.

With the way you talk, why would anyone consider your opinion? Your post is still riddled with hyperbole, to say nothing of the snarky tone.
Didn't DoDonPachi recently get a US publisher? I'm holding off for that version if true
Rising Star Games, who published DoDonPachi Resurrection in Europe, just opened a US branch. They have announced Akai Katana for the US and will announce another retail title at E3, but we can't know if it'll be DoDonPachi or something else.

Why not just order it from Zavvi or GAME, you can get it for ~$25 shipped and the box, manual, and game are all in English . . . just as good as any North American release, and cheap to boot!

As for Otomedius, I'm still debating whether to bother or not . . . just hard to get excited about this game.

Games from the UK can not be traded-in to Gamestop/BestBuy/Amazon so there maybe hesitation from some buyers for PAL versions.

I understand, but true shmup fans probably won't ever trade this game in . . . and if they do want to get rid of it, they can always sell it on Ebay and recover their money, if not more than they paid. New copies of DDPR are going for about $50 on Ebay in the U.S. right now, and great Cave shmups like this one tend to hold their value well. I personally don't trade games in at all, so it isn't an issue for me.

I do not disagree, I'm just trying to play the other side for those who play the game and then trade in. =) As an avid shmups fan, I fall on your side of the fence!
