Ratchet taking as long as it did didn't bother me. Shit is like 2 and a half gigs so it is understandable. XBL is pretty close when it comes to those big downloads. The problem for me is I hate how erratic it is.
I got a job, lost it, and got another job in the time that TMK's been looking for one.
I also just won't get a job at any supermarket or fast food place, because I'm feel very uncomfortable working around food (for reasons, mostly because of a particular problem I have). I'm still trying to shoot for something in my career or as close to it as possible, that's all. Now that I have my license, I can now get a job elsewhere instead of being limited to my local area only like before.

TMK really should be the one to get a job first, considering he lives in a place much bigger than where I live.

I refuse to work fast food, or in a restaraunt, so that limits my choices. I'm not saying I'm too good to work in those places, just that I would not do well at all at them.

Since I won't work those, that leaves a local coffee shop, some clothing stores, a grocery store, and walmart. None of those are very attractive prospects. Walmart would be alright if I could work electronics, but any other departments would suck ass. The coffee shop wouldn't be bad, but I think the hours are a lot more than I want to work (I have very few expenses, I just need a job for gas and date money.) I have an application to one of the clothing stores that I need to fill out. I could get a job at the grocery store easily, but all the people I've talked to said it is a shitty play to work.

The first job I got was a research job (which I lost because the post-doc I was working for moved to Germany and took the project with him), and this second one is in data analysis.

You need to move away and be independent for once.

It's really true most all places in my area, including deadbeat jobs, just aren't hiring. Even my local Wal-Mart isn't hiring for once. When some of these places had a job fair, they had more show up than positions in my area. I just REALLY need to leave the Midwest though and probably go west coast (where most places are looking for people in my field. But then again, there's the constant struggle of my parents not wanting me to leave them (I actually want to leave them). I will be perfectly honest that I have a few personal problems (which I prefer not to discuss, regardless of how open I can be at times) that really do prevent me from getting a job.

Well, I was downloading Mainichi Issyo and didn't take that long; however, that was like 230MB or so and I downloaded it over an hour ago.

I can't believe you're like 25 and never worked.
I've been working since I was 14.

I don't regret any of it at all.

lol, i remember being told that I had to get a job (I was 15) and I was dropped off in the closest strip mall. The only place that would hire me on the spot was Burger King. After a few days I got a interview at the movie theater next to it and quit Burger to work there. Free movies and not having to work with food since I got to either work the Box Office or the upstairs projections, I was loving it.
I gotta say though, if you really need money you need a job, you can be picky and say you don't want to work in certain places, but while you are looking for a better job you are losing out on the money you could be earning on the sure thing like the fast food or whatever it is.
My parents made me pay rent (despite not needing the money) so that I would ensure I'd get a job as soon as possible instead of holding out for the great job. So I went and worked fast food for maybe 2 weeks before getting a better job, but those two weeks was money at least.

http://www.playmessiah.com/products/ps3/hardwear-controller-armor.htm

I forgot all the ones which were out. I know some who got them really liked them (one set, I forgot if it was the same ones I linked you to or something else).
Try pausing the downloading, then un-pause it. Every once in a while, I'm put on a slower server to download and by doing that can switch it. I still remember the day when Wipeout HD came out (the big huge PS Store update day), my download for that was running on the slow side. I just paused and restarted (took like 2-3 times) and it was fast. I'll still never forget with the R2 beta, it was going crazy slow (it was like 2.5GB or so). I paused and restarted the download at like 30 or so percent. Once I did, I probably had the fastest download I ever had (around 3-4MB per second).

I've applied to quite a number of jobs and have already sent my resume to many (so far I've applied to around 30 positions total at various companies). Either positions get filled, don't get called, told I didn't fit their qualifications, and other crap.

I'm SUPPOSED to hear back from a company one of my Dad's friends is at, but I was told he wouldn't be sending me anything until tomorrow (since that's when they get back to work).
I was trying to think of the best way to say this to TMK, but this sums it up perfectly.

I didn't want to work at Sears way back when, but I did just to get some cash flow while I looked for a better job. I did what I had to.

It takes me a little less than an hour to get that much off usenet, so I had no problem with that. Hell sometimes it takes like 3 minutes to download a 30 MB song off live, so I am not going to complain too much about a free service.

I think my first job was at 14 or 15. I answered phones at the local church for 4.00 an hour and a free lunch.

Once I hit 16 I applied to 22 stores and American Eagle was the only place that called me back.

At one point I picked up a second job as a bus boy to make car payments.

When I got to college I quit AE and began working as a tour guide.

Finally, at the end of my freshmen year I found my current job and have been there ever since; almost 3 years now.

So....you're not trying hard enough TMK.

(sorry for any errors, typed that from my phone)

You can get some kind of job TMK, may not be want you want, but you can get something. Just having a college degree should be able to net you something. May not be involved in engineering at all, but something. What will happen when you're on your own (some day) and find yourself without a job? Move back in with your folks and wait a year to find a job you'll take?

i'm not completely agreeing with TMK but it *is* very difficult to get a job right now in some parts of the country, and it's actually *easier* if you have less education. The first FEAR is one of the best shooters ever. Just because the console ports ate asshole doesn't mean that the core gameplay isn't off the chain. Play it on a decent PC and it is flat out amazing. I played it three times in a row after getting it and played quite a bit of the MP.

Monolith is one of my favorite developers so I have real faith in them. They still need to get on the ball with NOLF 3 though.

Like 40 minutes away.

I'd assume after the missed delivery I couldn't go pick it up at like 5 or 6 PM because it'll still be on the truck, right?

If they'll leave it on my doorstep Tuesday with a signature on the slip they leave, I'll probably do that. If it won't be until Wednesday or Thursday I'll probably go pick it up Tuesday.
