Hey,

Does anyone have a Panasonic Q? I'm really curious about it...I would prefer to have a cube that plays dvds so my xbox doesn't have to do all the work...

Anyone have one or heard anything good about them?

thanks

yes but...

do you have a gameboy player on it?

REgion unlockable, progressive scan, MP3 playing, DVD+/-R/RW handling DVD players are under $50 now. Just get a regular GameCube and one of the tiny CyberHome units. The rebates that occasionally appear on these make them so cheap they're almost disposable.

Uhm guys, I only want to know if it's good. I have the money to spend if I so choose...thanks though.

it is a very high quality product. the only drawback is that you have to hold the power button on a few seconds to play US games, since it is NTSC-J natively. You also might want to get the english DVD remote label from liksang or something. You can also do the trial and error thing of course heh.

Understandable, however, "good" is a relative term. Something can be "good", but still not warrant the price, and the posters were just trying to express that one could attain a solution that was just as good for its intended purpose (playing DVDs), for a lot less money (although the Q does look pretty sweet). A cup of coffee can be "good", but if someone tries selling me one for $20, I'm not buying. It sounds like you have pretty much decided to get the Q, so, enjoy it.

Best DVD Player ever. I got mine for 300 and thought it was a bargain at that price. This thing plays just about anything that can be put on a disk so I consider it money well spent. Also the console itself is so damn pretty that anyone who is allowed to bask in the Q's glory always asks about it, it's a neat conversation starter. Something hypnotizing about the blue LEDs.

To be really l33t, you have to get the GBPlayer for it. I was lucky enough to only fork over 100 for it before the ebay hounds came looking for it.

If only more consoles could be so pretty. I bet more people would have cubes if this was the normal version. =P

Although I could never rationalize shelling out the cash for one of these, I must admit it's one damn fine looking piece of machinery. =P~

I have one. Havnt got it modded yet, but im going to with NCSX. They can put a push button or switch on the back so you dont have to hold down the power to switch game regions.

Yes I do and everyone that has seen my Q has said it is the coolest toy I own, oddly enogh even most ladies think its neat looking. It is certainly unique and simply a beautifule device akin to an iPod.

Also, the DVD chipset is different from the gamecube chipset, when you change from DVD to Gamecube mode you can hear it shut down and restart in the proper chipset.

Nintendo would do well to base the design of the "Revolution" console on the Panasonic Qs stylings.

Did they tell you how much it is to mod it? I have an unmodded one sitting around as well.

Yeah, best $150 I'll spend...heh.

NCS is capable of modifying your console with both the DVD region mod for playing all NTSC DVD from around the world as well as the Gamecube mod to play Japanese and American Gamecube titles. Note that RCE protected DVDs are playable on the modified Q as well. Our service charge is US$80 which includes return shipping with UPS Ground. Email NCS to arrange an "appointment."

My point is that the expenditure is ridiclous for something that is delivering no greater functionality or quality than the much less expensive alternative. The thrill of the exotic item fades fast when you realize you could have used the money for DVDs to watch on the thing instead of just having the thing to admire. It isn't a Ferrarri. It won't get you laid.

Ridiculous? Read the whole post my friend, $150 for this awesome machine is far from ridiculous. Thanks, besides what do you care? It's not like it's your money.

Someone seems to have forgotten who originally made a request for opinions.

What is so awesome about it? A GameCube with a DVD drive? So? Does it do anything a GameCube and a cheap DVD player won't do in the same space? Nope.

Where are you getting it for $150!?!?!

Wait, where can you get this for $150?
I would like the answer to this also.
I second that! :D
for $150 I'd buy it in a second!
As would I, which is why I want to know where I can get it for $150.

So the price in question is one most people cannot hope to match. Making it an even more unlikely choice for anyone other than collectors.
