IGN - 8.0 out of 10
Despite Pangya: Fantasy Golf's technical shortcomings, it's still really fun and has a lot of replay value. You could spend 15 to 20 hours playing through the Story mode alone, followed by tons of challenges to complete and tournaments to join. Then, there's the multiplayer to consider along with the mountains of costume items and equipment to buy. Even though Fantasy Golf might not look quite as sharp as its arcade golf peers, I'd still recommend buying this one. You're getting a lot for your money. And I didn't even like real golf before I played this game. If it's cute enough to interest me, it should have enough personality to warrant a look.

I've been growing a bit tired of HSG:OT2 lately (have been for a while actually) so it will be nice to have a new golf game on the PSP. Anyone play the Korean version?

Anyone have a solid release date on this? I tried the Korean version and it is loads of fun but I can't read a thing.
This looks awesome. Not 39.99 awesome, but awesome none the less.
$29.99

Tempting...very tempting. Going to wait for some reviews first...I've grown extremely tired of HGS :(

IGN's review is in and they gave it an 8.0 citing some technical issues (slow-down, load times, and not enough detail) but reading the review, it sounds like the reviewer should have given the game an 8.5 instead. I just called my GameStop and they still don't have it...I hate waiting.

How does the progression compare to HSG?

I liked HSG:OT2 but towards the end I grew to dislike the amount of time I needed to play between unlocks. I would almost prefer smaller but more frequent unlocks, as opposed to say playing 3 18 round tournaments and 1 round of stroke play just to unlock a character.

I forgot all about this game. I'm off to EB tomorrow and need a game to keep in my UMD drive for a while while I finish FF7.

I'll be picking this up soon. I doubt I'll like it better than HSG but after playing through that game three times and unlocking just about everything and maxing out all of the characters I need something different. I hope they are working on a HSG3 with the new swing mechanic from the PS3 game...

My problem with HSGOT2 was I wanted more mini-games. They had the one mini-game where you try to get as many points as possible...but after playing through that a 50+ times it quickly lost its appeal. I would love 'Challenges' or some sort...make a putt form 75 feet on X course, make an Eagle from X feet on X course, etc. I would REALLY like a hole-in-one mode where there are 9-19 holes of just Par 3's...that would be a blast.

Seemes gamefly has shoved this to The 26th

i thought that it looked like a very poor rip off of Hot shot golf and that is why i stayed away from it...

how is this like a JRPG.... or do you consider HOT shot golf a JRPG as well..

7-250 i should be able to upgrade tonight for 4.50..... might do it just to see what the big deal is..

The game is 'cute', very JRPG-like in terms of characters and design and overall just has a fun feel to it. There may be only 18 characters (only 2 are unlocked in the beginning) but the amount of customizing you can do definitely makes up for it. Without counting each individual item and combination, I'd say it's on par customization wise with HSG:OT2.

My problem with HSG:OT2 was the lack of mini-games...you had the 1 (one) mini-game and then regular stroke and tournament play. Other than that, you were unlocking characters. In Pangya: Fantasy Golf you're leveling your character up but it's much more varied. First, you get 'Pang' which is essentially money that can be used to buy upgrades (like more strenth) but these items are limited to the number of open slots your character has. The starting character only has 3 slots, and the items can only be used X amount of times.

As for modes, I've currently spent the most time in the 'License' mode where there are a variety of different things to do. Hole-in-one = 10 tries to get a hole-in-one or else you fail. There is an Approach mini-game where points are awarded for whoever is the closest, best of 6 holes for that one. There's one mini-game where yo uplay 9 holes and have to earn 300 Pang, I'm sure this number will go up as I level my character. There are a few others, but I can't recall, safe to say there are at least 4-8 different mini-games in the License mode. There's still the story mode as well as tournament and network play, but unfortunately network play is ad-hoc, not infrastructure. Which leads me to my only cons so far...

First and foremost, when you read the reviews, the load times are a bit on the longer side, notice how I said longer, not lengthy. Load times range from 5-10 seconds. No where near a deal breaker. The character details are also a bit on the bland side compared to HSG:OT2 but this is the first effort on the PSP to my knowledge for this game so I'll let that slide. The characters and terrain still look fine, but they could have used a bit more detail. My only semi-major concern is the putting. The putting is fine, it's just a but harder to see the slope of the green compared to other golf games but after a few holes you learn how to zoom in and move around to try and judge the slope/speed. Again, nothing deal breaking, and starting out the holes are bigger to help make up for this slight learning curve.

Overall, I'm liking Pangya: Fantasy Golf A LOT. I honestly don't think I will be playing HSG:OT2 ever again. They only way I'll play HSG again is if it's on the PS3 or it's HSG:OT3. Pangya is really easy to pick up and play, the shot meter goes just a tick slower than HSG making the game more fun and less frustrating while still requiring some skill to make good shots. If you're a fan of Japanese art what-so-ever, and you like golf, I'm positive you will enjoy this game.

Thanks for the mini review. I'll be picking this one up hopefully over the weekend. IGN mentioned the loading times being a bit on the longer side, but only when loading up a course and fortunately not from hole to hole so that's okay. Are the ball physics as solid as the Hot Shots series? I'm asssuming it is because no one has said anything about it.

Hole to hole takes only a few seconds, 2-5 max.
GameStop got the game today (mine did at least) and so far I'm impressed. I gotta get going but my first impressions mini-review is below.
Bah, I just had to order this online since no EB or Bestbuy within 200 miles had the game.
I saw it at Wal-Mart. It didn't have a price tag so I don't know how much it was. I am assuming $29.99.

I saw a stack of these at Toys R Us for $29.99 each.

once you get the hang of the putting system its fun...

about 9 hours in

got 6 of the first people unlocked in chapter 1

got 2 of the easy touraments unlocked

first tour 9 holes came in 3rd
2nd tour won

of the 2nd group

first tour came in 3rd
2nd came in 3rd : (

like it better then HSG2 would grab it below 20 though i will probally be bored with it by the time it goes back to gamefly around the 17th of july since there is nothing coming out

I've played about 4 hours of it and love it. The RPG story mode is pretty addicting. I haven't had a chance to play online yet. If you are a fan of HSG, you'll love this game.

The PSP version is pretty much an exact port of the PC version gameplaywise with the caddies playable and one new exclusive character. All the shot tricks from the PC version still carry over so for anyone having trouble putting, here is a tip. Make an invisible line from the ball, the fourth dot from you and then the hole and you will almost always get real close or make it in. Only on some of the super crazy slopes will this not work but you will still get the ball close enough for the next putt. There are some more shot secrets so if anyone wants them, just let me know.

They got rid of the hardest course (Silvia Cannon) and three of the best pang making courses in the PSP version which kind of sucks since it takes a while to make a lot of pang now to try to get all the items especially with the Papel Shop updating each day. Still if you are wondering if you might like this, give the PC version a try and you will get a feel for what the PSP version has to bring on a portable scale without the need to spend real money for some of the best items in the game.

I'm letting you know. :D
Got gamefly to send it to me, this game is great! Enjoying the Story Mode so far! :D
sucks this is one of the few games gamefly will not sell..

put around 15 hours into the game so far..... on the 4th MAX storeline on chapter 1 and only have 4 of the 9 touraments opened /// got all first places in the first 3 course....

I would say if you did not use any cheats it would take you over 200 hours to get 100%

My only complaint is that you can't play fast enough. I hate having to watch the shot if I don't want to - even in FF.

my cousin was playing it last night on one of those level 6 touraments

going into HOle 18 they had a 3 stroke lead... They got a bogey yet one of the AI got an eagle on the same hole

they came in 2nd and almost tossed the PSP across the room LOL

wonder why gamefly isnt selling this game

I am noticing that although most of the PC tricks still work, the lower res graphic on the PSP make some of them a little harder to do. When using Woods, each square around the hole equals about 1 wind so if the wind is full right 5, then move the aim 5 squares to the left of the hole. Half wind for the amount of squares to move if the wind is pointing something like South East on the compass, etc. For power when swinging there are 10 lines so just divide the final number by 10 and you will be able to tell what distance each line is.

I finally bought the game around 2 months ago (when it dropped to $20). Its just like the one on Wii in ways, but with standard controls. While not as good as Hot Shots Golf, the single player content is still excellent and it plays well. I just wish there was a PSN version up.

i got this off gamefly for rent when it first came out and playing it around 15 hours (unlocked everyone in chapter 1) had a chance to buy it off ebay few months back for 16 sealed shipped... Just could not get back into the game .... dumped it too goozex for like 800 pts

if the game ever falls to 10 i probally grab it again... i like this a lotmore then hot shots
Are there any Dead or Alive character costume packs to purchase/unlock in the PSP version?
There are no DOA costumes since this is not Super Swing Golf released by Tecmo, it's Pangya by Ntreev. It is nice to be able to play this without having to go online like the PC version as I got screwed when they moved their servers and lost a bunch of my special items since I did not know about the server move so I just have not wanted to play the PC version much since that happened.

Thanks for correcting me on that. I feel like a dunce. :whistle2:#

Then I guess a better question would be, would you recommend this or Hot Shots 2?

I liked this a lot better than Hot Shots, though a lot of that is probably due to the more anime style and feel to it, as I prefer that over the look of Hot Shots.

I like Hot Shots 2 way better. I feel like there was more control over the shots and you could play a game much quicker.
