I was just wondering are there any copies of Paper Mario 2 that dont contain that "BEST SELLER" on the front of the box art or do they all have that? Thanks.

I saw some mario party 6s the other day with the huge ugly bestseller on the box, but the one I got didn't have it on there. I was surprised to see that it wasn't a sticker on the box, just printed on there.

Yeah its not like a sticker but an actualy part of the boxart. I was trying find a sealed copy of paper mario 2 without that ugly sticker on it.
Yes, there are copies that don't have the "Best Seller" logo.
Mine doesn't have it either. I bought it at Gamestop

You think they might still have some copies available w/out that logo on it?

Why would they print 2 different versions of the box art at launch like that? Sometimes Nintendo just makes no sense...

I dunno, head over to your local gamestops and check.

I bought mine awhile ago. I actually made a topic about the box art a couple months ago. It seemed like each store had different variations. Gamestops for the most part had the non-best seller copies, TRU had the best seller logo, I think there were stores mentioned in that thread.

I don't have a link to the thread, so if you are interested try searching for it, I think it was in the gamecube general discussion forum, but I'm not positive.

Yes, there should be, but I'd still call around and ask to make sure.

The Best Seller thing is kind of an off-shoot of "Player's Choice" but geared more toward the idea that this game is an immediate hit.

Player's Choice qualification requires the game to have been released for 9 months and hit a certain level of sales (I believe 250k but don't quote me on that).

Best Seller is this new fangled (crap) that's all about the presales. Essentially launch of the title had both versions, and it looks like its being used just for first party right now (as one would expect RE4 to have it).

Mario Tennis, MP6, and Paper Mario are the 3 titles currently with Best Seller versions and its exactly like what was said above - some stores got exclusively one version or the other. Subsequent shipments have been just Best Seller.

What does this all mean? For me, the biggest question is what are the Player's Choice covers going to look like? Retain the Best Seller or not or both? For the hardcore collector (which many of us are), it's nitpicking about not wanting that variation, albeit a more subtle one than that bright yellow bar, when the theoretical original version is without it.

Anyways, I hunted high and low for a Paper Mario: TTYD without it and actually just found one the other day (after hitting at least 7 stores). This Gamestop had at least 7 more copies of it so if anyone really needs that fix, I'll hook you up cost plus shipping.

Oh and one other fun-fact: Mario Party 6 with BS logo is just on the exterior box. The game inside doesn't (yet) have it.

And actually I just thought of another theory - maybe it just has to do with Mario. I would have thought sales of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes would have qualified for BS. But an argument why they haven't done it yet is because they'll probably flatten out the cover image before (no holofoil or whatever it is).

If you look carefully
the Best Seller (or whatever it says)
are printed in USA
the Non-Best Seller are printed in Japan

read the small print on the back

I saw them both (paper mario) at BB about
a month and a half ago

I got mine at launch at GAme Rush and it has the ugly logo. AT first I thought it was a play on the whole paper theme, meaning the story and game was like a book.

Yeah so I went to Best Buy today and all the copies they had there had that gay logo on it. I was hoping to do a pricematch to CC online for $40 + a GGC for $5 but I guess not.

Actually, the current run of PC Wind Waker has the logo. Not sure about any others...

Yeah I saw this today there too.

I'm hoping that this small logo will replace the "Player's Choice" stripe at some point. I also think it's appearance on new releases has some relevance to how well they did in Japan. Either way, I don't mid it on my Paper Mario box because of the whole "book" asociation, but I'd mind on other games.

Yah, I forgot about two other titles, Wind Waker and Kirby: Air Ride. Both have PC version with BS logos now. 6 right now have it, though. The last one? Super Smash Bros. Melee. WW and K:AR have BS logos only on the new PC covers, however SSMB was taken off the Player's Choice label because of the fact that all PC games are now $20 (or lower in some cases - Harry Potter Quidditch Cup for example is $15 and Dave Mirra and Crazy Taxi are $10). So SSMB has new covers without PC but now BS. It's BS logo is also the only one in the bottom middle, whereas all others currently out are bottom right.

I believe I heard that 10,000 was the number for BS status. Also, I can confirm that it is indeed First Party only and the reason MP2:Echoes has yet to get is because of the matte logo needing to be on a matte cover. So look for that change sometime.

Yuck. I hate those things. I make it a point not to buy Greatest Hits, Player's Choice, and Platinum Hits. Now I have to watch out for this little guy too. Bleh.

I just don't understand why they have to change the packaging at all? Maybe it's so that people can see them and instantly know $20.

JAMMR hit everything right on the head. Very good posts... If you are looking for non Best Seller packages, I suggest looking at the local K-Marts and Wal-Marts. My local K-Mart never had any BS logos, and Wal-Mart around here was the only place I could find MP6 without the BS label...

I have a non best-seller PM2 i bought used from eb. The stupid dude traded in a few Xdude games, and then turned around and traded a new PM2 back in(he left the receipt inm the case). He did not even redeem the registration code.
