Pat Robertson: Haitians made pact with the devil

A statement like this gets him attention. That attracts viewers, including racists and zealots who fill his pockets with cash. He's a con man, and exceptionally good at his craft. He knows what he's doing, and you should too.

If you think this is going to end when Robertson dies, guess again. He's grooming his son to pick up where he left off, and they're practically clones. The 700 Club is going to be around for a while... the best way to deal with it is not to fall for the troll trap and just change the channel.
I dunno guys. I think ole Patty is onto something here. Haiti sounds an awful lot like hate, and isn't that what the Devil Inkarnate manufacturers down there? I believe he sloughs unrefined odium directly into the red hot furnaces, and little tartes du haine come rolling out on little conveyor belts. They then go directly into a blast chiller before be loaded onto the truck. The irony is not lost on the Supreme Serpent, who calls it his "dirty little secret, and also the key to great freshness."

I seen it on that Unwrapped show.

And now really, could any show where Marc Summers is the host be wrong? I think not.
Why not go further? Haiti sounds alot like Hades. Maybe Haiti is where hell is?
On one hand, Pat is a douche and a terrible person. On the other hand, his charitable organization has been doing work in Haiti for years where as three days ago, most Americans probably couldn't point at the general location of Haiti on a world map.
Piss off. Haiti is north of here right next to the Great Lakes.

Danny Glover?

That's a big cup of false equivalency you're serving up, troy. But I expect no less from you, as your approach to participating in the vs forums is limited to trite 'gotcha' one-liners the contribute nothing. On the rare occasion you post something, you offer it for one specific reason, and when that's cut down for the strawman it is, you step back and lie, claiming something other than your original intent.

Like the thread on Uganda - you're doing the same thing here. Obfuscating the issue and claiming naive innocence when called on being a bullshit artist.

You're like a Chaff Grenade from Metal Gear Solid: you fuck up the radar for a moment, and are ultimately useless in terms of getting to the conclusion of the game.

Some signature worthy shit right there.:)

You know I love ya Myke, but I don't think it's a false equivalency at all. DG is no more accurate claiming that the earthquake is a result of global warming/climate change than PR is claiming it's caused by the devil. Or Rush claiming that it's the fault of brown people. (That had to be italicized for the nefariousness of the people.)

They're all slimy folks using inaccurate and misleading statements attempting to trade on a (horrible human) tragedy to raise their own pet projects' stock value.

But Mister Troy is a troll.

it's not about accuracy, it's about avenues to sources of power. Something Robertson possesses and Glover lacks.

Are both proposing some hackneyed fucked up post-hoc-ideology-satisfying conclusions? You betcha. But Glover ain't Robertson. Though I do admit I chuckled at the "pact with gaia" line in the URL.

Honestly, have you ever read a post and just took the time to laugh at something you found funny? I just found it was a absurd thing for someone to say about the earthquake, and I was either going to post it here or on the topic in the Off Topic forum, but figured I would do it here considering that topic had all of 9 replies. It isn't like it's that big of a difference to what pat said, they both blamed it on something they know absolutely nothing about.

I don't care about what pat robertson says, why would I? He's an old guy that has a bunch of 80 year old viewers and randomly spews stupid crap from time to time. Then, after he says something stupid, he's painted as a speaker for a certain ideological group and then disappears again until the next time he says something stupid and people bring him up again. I could have posted that and then you would nut yourself about me writing him off.

Honestly though, this is the internet. Enjoy yourself here, not everything is serious business.

As much as the chaff grenade line owns, I think Troy was simply adding another dumb comment to the pile of dumb comments from people pulling reasons why haiti was hurt out of their ass.

Understood. PR speaks to millions, Glover's the guy on the street corner wearing the tinfoil hat ranting about the martians corrupting his bodily fluids.

But we wouldn't want to make Gaia angry.

i think youre not giving glover enough credit. he starred in operation dumbo drop, one of the top 10 films of all time about an elephant or elephants.

So - What Pat says has more weight than what Danny says because people listen to and respect (for whatever reason) Pat. Therefore, it's perfectly okay to vilify Pat for saying stupid-ass things.

So, when (major) pro-athletes, celebrities, etc. - when they say and do stupid-ass things, those people who cry about about them being "role models for the children" - well, they're right?

Someone who's in the spotlight and has the attention of large portions of the public have a responsibility to act better than those who don't?

Someone explain to Boob that Ol' Pat has an incredible amount of political access, this isn't just a by product of his status a religion pimping celebrity churchmonger but a direct result of years of work to make himself a right wing king maker.

The man believes Christians (explicitly his kind of Christian) should rule the United States.

Right. It's what we call the "Joe Biden Principle."
