Another interesting tid bit coming out from the meeting. Taken from the NYTimes.
Man this whole thing is just so crazy, we have people not just fighting but blowing up and others getting on their knees and begging. I wish I could look ahead in history not just to see how this whole thing works out, but also to see what is wrote about this period in history. People keep comparing all this to the great depression but here I am sitting on my ass at a computer with a belly full of left over crab legs from dinner last night....its hard to even think of what we are in as a crisis even near the level of the great depression. But at the same time this is a crazy point in history where its hard to tell if we are on the verge of a collapse or if people are just panicking.
In the Roosevelt Room after the session, the Treasury secretary, Henry M. Paulson Jr., literally bent down on one knee as he pleaded with Nancy Pelosi, the House Speaker, not to “blow it up” by withdrawing her party’s support for the package over what Ms. Pelosi derided as a Republican betrayal.
“I didn’t know you were Catholic,” Ms. Pelosi said, a wry reference to Mr. Paulson’s kneeling, according to someone who observed the exchange. She went on: “It’s not me blowing this up, it’s the Republicans.”
Mr. Paulson sighed. “I know. I know.”
