Paypal Digital Gift Card Security Issues / Hacked - Check Your Balances ASAP

Just called PPDG myself, case being escalated, will hear back from them in 24-48hrs.   Ugh

NOTE If you're calling, have the Paypal transaction ID for a faster call.

EDIT: Well that was fast...no email or anything, but I happened to be in my PP account, my refund is there.  Damn!  Didn't get the extra $10 per card that I had bought, bu at least my $ is back.

For me, they filed a claim dispute that PPDG has 10 days to respond to. If they don't respond, then I'm refunded on the 11th day. Thinking they may just not respond, due to this situation, so hopefully, mine will be refunded in a couple of weeks. Then to go back to eBay to get the GC numbers used there. It's long. It's inconvenient. But if the money comes back in the end, I'll be okay with that.
What number did you use to contact ebay? I just had my ebay gift cards I used to buy the best buy gift cards refunded but I dont have access to them any more and cant seem to find a valid number for them.

edit: nevermind i found the number

Edit 2:

Just got off the phone with ebay and they are reissuing me the gift cards, they said it should take up to 5-14 days. hopefully everything works out.

Just checked and got my refund. but I was told I would be getting the full $75 which I did but then they took $15.

I can understand their side of things, but I lost $75 not $60 because of their mistake not mine so I am going to call back and see if they will do what they said they would do.

EDIT: Called Paypal and after speaking for like 25 min total to three different people I got the $15 added. He apologized that I had to call back a 2nd time (after this afternoon) when I shouldn't have had to. He also said PP is looking into how they handle gift cards due to these issues.

Good to hear more people are getting this resolved.

Funny little side note,  when I spoke to the supervisor, he adamantly denied the gift card issue had anything to do with a security breach, and called it a "bug."  (Yeah, sure.) I think they know an investigation or lawsuit is coming.

Oh shit, I gotta call back then, I want my $20 that I had. I had x2 $50 GS CS's with x2 $10 bonus cards.

I contacted PPDG via eBay about one of my BBY GCs that was supposed to have a balance still as I used most of it up. They just sent me a refund to my PayPal account as a credit (IE Cash) instead of refunding me back to the original payment method (eBay GC). Think I contacted them on eBay about 5 days ago and just received a response / refund today.

Good to hear!  Maybe they'll do the same with me instead of refunding the eBay gift cards.  Would be using PayPal on eBay, anyways, so whether it comes from eBay Gift Cards or directly from PayPal makes no difference to me.  Glad to hear so many are getting more positive results and things are moving on PP's side!

I checked my Paypal account today after calling yesterday and it looks like they processed the refund directly to my eBay GC's which of course I threw away last week.  Now to get in touch with eBay...

Paypal refunded my transaction today, and it went back to the eBay Gift Card.  Now have another call in with the eBay Gift Card team to get that GC number.  Hopefully that works, this time!  (Last time, they gave me the list of GCs that had a balance instead of the GC used in the transaction.  Hopefully this time, those two will be the same thing. )

My god what a hassle. Paypal (and ebay) customer care sucks. How do these companies even stay in business. This is the last time I deal with them - I am DONE!

Check your Paypal account. I emailed them after the error message they sent out, and never got a reply back. I just checked my Paypal activity yesterday, and they refunded the amount like 10 days ago. They probably thought I was trying to scam them.

Just had a GameStop GC from late July that had $60 left on it get zero'd out, too.  Hate this breach nonsense.  Think I may just let it go, if eBay ever gets the $200 GC back to me.  Just be done with PPDG unless can convert it to physical in short order.  Deeply frustrating. :(

My BBY cards have been drained.

Heads up CAGs.

Edit: My cards were bought on 6/30, which was not affected by the first wave of balance clearing. I foolishly thought I was safe since my balance were ok last time people report clearings of cards bought in August.

I think if anyone has purchased anything from PPDG before Sept 1st, you should probably check your balance as theres a big chance its zero'd and its probably a ton of vendors its not limited to BBY / GS / iTunes. I had a Sephora drained and I seen people talk about Staples and Officemax being drained as well on other forums.

Yeah, I used an Outback GC from PPDG today from July just to get it out of the way, and finished off my three other GS GCs (~$15 total) just to avoid them being drained.  Think that's all the PPDG cards from before Sept. 1st for me.  On the good news side, eBay got back to me with the refunded eBay GC number from my August 8 BBY GCs being drained, so that's finally clear.  Think I'm done with trying to carry a lot of GCs from PPDGs, though, unless I can convert them to physical.  No more eBay bucks from it, and probably better for my finances anyway to do some belt tightening. (^_^)

Exact same thing happened to me, but I was unaware of this being a widespread issue until just 15 minutes ago.

I called BB last week to report my balance was gone and got the run around a couple times. On my third try the CS rep told my where and when my gift card was used. I'm in the midwest and it turns out it was used in Florida about two weeks prior. I told them I had never even visited the state, much less a BB store within the past two weeks, so he forwarded my case. His connection was breaking up a bit, but he sounded fairly confident that I'd be able to get my balance refunded and to expect an email from them within five business days. Yesterday was day five and no email, so I'll be contacting them tomorrow and if nothing's resolved, I'll try contacting eBay/Paypal.
