I'm going to be using this pc mostly for editing videos in premiere.  I'll also be capturing gameplay from a xbox 360, and possibly from pc games...

at the moment this build is just under $1300  closer to 1200 after MiR ...   I plan on spending an addtional 300$ in a few weeks, getting a second monitor, a 3tb hd, usb 3.0 card, and whatever other little things i may require...

Just wondering if anyone has any advice or comments on this pc... it's alot of money for me, I want to get the best combo i can....
(i'll be honest, i have positive past experience with all the brands that I have selected...)

i also plan on getting a another graphics card (the same model) and doing SLI , in a few months.

Overall, a very nice build.

I noticed you are planning to buy the processor (in-store only) from Microcenter, do you have one near you?  If you do, they usually have good CPU + Motherboard combo discounts in store that may save you some money.

The i5-3570k (Ivy Bridge) is very nice (I'm using one ), but the 1155 socket is end-of-life.  A more future-proof socket 1150 mobo + Haswell processor that is comparable to what you have listed and is also $30 cheaper can be found at the bottom of the page of the link provided from Microcenter.

Here's the link:

http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx

Breakdown:

i5-4670k + Asus Z87-A Socket 1150 = $264.98 (after $10 MIR)   vs   $294.98 for what you have listed.

(Of course this is all dependant on if you are going to a Microcenter store to buy it, they don't ship CPUs or these nice combos :wall: )

Edit:

The Corsair H100i can be found on sale regularly at $80-100 MIR (recently on sale in January for $70 MIR (!!) from Tigerdirect).  It's a dual-length 240mm liquid CPU cooler a step up from the H80i you have listed.  I did a quick check and it should fit your listed case (NZXT Source 530) as seen here.  If you are not in a rush to overclock, you can use the stock cooler at stock cpu speeds until there is a sale.

Other members will have a better opinion on the gpu, but wanted to ask:  Is there a reason you want to SLI the 660 in a few months?  The 660 is a solid choice, and 660 SLI will perform better then a single GPU at that price range, but at the expense of heat, wattage and future upgradability.  Just wondering if a better single GPU would fit your needs, since your resolutions won't likely top 1080p (resolution of the monitor you chose).

i've heard Haswell runs hot for overclockers.... but i'm not against getting one... i'll look into it more.

i don't have any microcenter stores near me, partspicker added that merchant, lol... i am getting everything off new egg...

Doesn't really matter if it runs slightly hotter if you're springing for a $90 CPU cooler.  As far as the GPU goes I would spring another $60-100 upgrading to the 760.  You also want to make sure the motherboard you end up getting is SLI compatible.  Some of the low/mid range Z77/87 are only Crossfire (AMD) compatible.

Many people said the same thing about Ivy Bridge compared to Sandy Bridge. The Core i5 4670k is a superior processor, but get whatever's cheaper, it's not better by much. MC is at least $50 cheaper than anybody else, so that will needed to be added to the final price.

$1,000+ is expensive for something with not much graphics muscle, but I understand that video editing and gaming require different things. That being said, I don't recommend spending that much on RAM, CPU cooler, or case, as there are great options at much lower prices, resulting in spending $100-150 less without noticing a lick of difference performance wise. Go with what you prefer, but just know that you can get by spending less if you want.

I have the same monitor, SSD, processor (got it for $150 from MC a couple months ago), and PSU (mine's 500W), so I think those are great choices, and good prices! I just ordered a new monitor since I've heard such great things about IPS/PLS, and wanted one that is bigger and 1440p resolution. So make sure you would rather get dual montiors and dual graphics card instead of a nicer monitor and a nicer video card.

If you decide to just get 1 nice video card in the $200-300 range, you should be able to get a cheaper motherboard and power supply, but I think those are pretty good choices regardless of your video card. Good luck with your build!

I'd rethink the processor/mobo as mentioned. That combo is dying tech. A Z87 & Haswell combo will not run you much more if anything all. As was said heat with overclocking is not really a concern if you plan to drop 90 bones on a liquid cooler...

For the money you spend on a fairly basic full tower case I'd suggest paying a little more and getting a silent case. This will help eliminate some noise especially you decide to go SLI at some point. It would be a shame to have a nice silent liquid cooler but your rig still sounds like a jet engine when you put the graphics need to spin up. Fractal Design makes some really nice silent cases in that can be found in the $100-110 range.

If you primary function is video editing and gaming is 3rd on that list I'd seriously reconsider your graphics card set up. SLI will get you very little in actual editing, general rule is you are way better off with a single yet more powerful card especially if using Adobe products. You may even consider a real good workstation card if you plan on making more than a hobby out of it. By doing this you could also save money on the case and get a mid-tower as you wouldn't need to worry about getting the room of a full tower...

Also def. consider a large 2nd hard drive. 2 or 3gb minimum I'd say. If you do a lot of video editing in HD then a single 250gb SSD drive will fill up way faster than you think...

Don't forget the "hidden costs" either such as an OS. I also don't trust Asus Monitors but that''s probably more of a personal thing...
