Peek Mobile Email device Clearance at Target: YMMV

I've had my eye on this little gadget for a while. It's a mobile email and texting pager with NO CONTRACT! Last week, I saw these little dudes on clearance at Target for just $25 (used to be $100).

Had to pick one up. I might even go back to get another one for my gf.

As a cheapassgamer, I like it's value concept. One monthly price for unlimited service.

oh, here's the corporate link I found. www.getpeek.com

Yeah, that's the usual argument. I've done a lot of math around this. I can actually cancel my texting plan. And I can also type out emails way faster on this thing than on my little candy-bar nokia.

But if you've already got a smart-phone and especially if work pays for it, this ain't for you.

$20 a month for email and text!!! Holy hell! How many people actually use this? If any of you that use this are one of the people that complain about the price of XBL, you should be kicked in the stomache.

yeah but you can pick up a used ipod touch and get the same functions for free a month (Wifi hotspots are a dime a dozen these days).

Sorry, I'd have to say that's not really the same thing. Wifi hotspots aren't everywhere. That'd be like saying I can make a phone call... but only in a Wifi hotspot. If that were the case, we'd all be using wifi phones.

Not saying your idea isn't good, cuz I definitely have me some iPod envy, but it's not equivalent.

eh....i dont understand people cancelling their text plans and using this. i used to carry my cell phone and my ipod touch. Its sucked..that's why I got an iphone. While I was using my ipod touch I noticed that most places had wifi hotspots. It was actually surprising how often I could get online. It is just ridiculous to me to pay monthly for an extra device for text and email when a lot of phones these days have it built in and for not a lot.

after thinking about it for a bit this would be pretty damn good for a teen/tween who texts more than talks especially since there is no contract and it is unlimited

If you guys have smartphones with e-mail and unlimited internet, learn your provider text e-mail addresses. On ATT, I know you send e-mails to (number)@txt.att.net and your recipient will get a text message. (Google for your providers.) You would just input your information and they would see that it's from you. If they reply to your text it'll send you back an e-mail. If you can enable push then you've gotten yourself unlimited texting for the price of Internet. I'm pretty sure this is how iPhone/iPods do this. They just make it pretty.
The actual messages can look a bit hairy so I only do this when I'm out of texts.

On topic, only the price is YMMV. I'm under the impression that Target clearances are nationwide; it's just the price that differs. I know I've seen this on clearance at my Target.

Why not use a Mylo or for that matter a PSP? Free net at wifi hotspots. It's probably slower that most people would like, but they get the job done.
