Pelican DS Battery & Charger kit

CAGiversary!
Anyone else pick this up? I didn't see any mention of it here. I thought the additional battery was going to be a pain to insert, requiring a screwdriver to remove the battery cover, but they included a different style of battery cover as a replacement, along with the right sized screwdriver.

Basically, there's a small piece which screws into the DS and then the rest of the cover snaps into place, which makes it so you can swap the battery in a few seconds.

I've mainly been playing my DS at home at night, so when that red light came on it pretty much meant no playing until tomorrow. Now I've always got a spare charged battery on hand.

Anyway, I just thought it was a handy accessory for $10-15. The battery lasts a little bit longer than the one that came with my DS, too, but I think there's something wrong with my original. As long as the Pelican one doesn't explode or anything, I'm happy with it.

I tend to stay away from 3rd party accessories, espeically power-related ones (batteries, chargers, AC adapters, etc.), as I'm always concerned they'll fry my system and my warranty with it. But, if it continues to work for you, awesome!

Nintendo actually puts out an official car adapter now for your DS. I mention this because I thought they never would since they would always say something along the lines of you can't control the wattage coming out of the cigarette lighter or something to that reguard.

sweet. you still have to have3 a battery in the Ds to charge the battery right?

I mean the one out of your DS is unchargable until its in the system correct?

Are you asking if the original DS battery can only be charged in the system? I'm not sure about that. There's a warning on the DS original battery that you should only charge it in the system, but the two batteries appear to be identical other than the label.

There are a few different charging options if you only have one AC adapter, since the charger uses the same adapter. Like if you somehow ended up with two dead batteries and wanted to play your DS, you can plug the charger into the wall and then run a cable they provide between the charger and your DS, so both batteries will be charging at once. Also, you can just have the charger plugged in by itself, charging one of the batteries.

I'm not too worried about the non-Nintendo battery. My original one can only keep a charge for about four and a half hours, so this one is definitely an improvement over that. Plus I like the fact that I can let the battery discharge completely before charging it and then still have an extra ready to go.

(Hopefully you won't see a message from me in a few months talking about how my battery leaked into my DS, both destroying it and voiding my warranty.)

where di you get it at for that price...

I was unaware the new battery came with a charger that would work outside plugging in the complete Ds system.
Thanks

I picked it up at Best Buy for $15, but I've read that it can be found for $10. I was on vacation and had a dead battery, so I paid the $15.

It's weird that the packaging doesn't explain exactly what's inside - like that the replacement battery cover makes it easy to swap batteries. I'm sure a lot of people pass it up because they think they'd have to carry around a screwdriver.
