Pentium 4 or Athlon 64?

Skip the Athlon 64, Pentium 4, and Pentium D all together and head straight to Core 2 Duo land. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

parents are paying for a package...so dual core isnt possible...so basically I just want the best I can get.

Not true anymore with the release of the Conroe, it actually beats the Athlon 64 FX series.

But if price is a factor you will be better off with a low end Athlon 64.

QFT. Though of the two choices you listed, I'd suggest the Athlon.

I beleive he was referring to the two original choices of a P4 and an Athlon 64, the Conroe wasn't an option.

That's too bad though, the Conroe is a killer processor. But in going with a P4 or A64, I'd go with the A64 easily. The P4 might do some tasks better but not by much. Plus, the A64 uses less power and can be easily OCed.
