For those looking to really scare up your halloween, Frictional Games has put up their two horrifying games on sale for 50% off. For $10 each you can get either Amnesia, or the entire Penumbra collection, straight from the developers.

https://store3.esellerate.net/store...x?s=STR9929807578&pc=&page=OnePageCatalog.htm

For those of you with allegiances to other stores, you can also find Amnesia on sale at the following locations for the following prices, although I would suggest buying from Frictional Games themselves to give them a bigger cut, as they're a small indy studio that can use all the money they can get.

GamersGate - 50% off (http://www.gamersgate.com/DDB-PCAB/penumbra-and-amnesia-bundle-bundle)
Impulse - 50% off (http://www.impulsedriven.com/amnesiatdd)
Direct2Drive - 50% off (http://www.direct2drive.co.uk/9664/product/Buy-Amnesia:-The-Dark-Descent-Download)
Steam - 33% off (http://store.steampowered.com/app/57300/)

Awesome, thanks for the links! I was about to pick up Amnesia on Steam the other day, but wanted to try out the demo first. Haven't had time yet, but if I do end up liking it, I'll be sure to pick it up on Frictional Game's site instead.

Did they mention anywhere on how long this will last? Hopefully up until the Steam sale is over with on Nov 1?

EDIT: Just found out on their site that the sale lasts until the 31st. Going to be in Montreal for the weekend, so I suppose I'll have to pick it up before I leave tonight.
What does Frictional use for DRM on versions of their games from their site?
Being at work, I haven't actually picked it up yet, but I don't believe they have DRM on items bought directly from them. However, it appears (from the fact that they offer a 1-year re-download warranty) that you can only download once. Not a problem if you back it up yourself, but still not quite as nice as getting it from Steam or others.

This is the text I got during checkout:

"All purchases comes with a Frictional Games download service, free of charge. Our download is available for as long as we are around and able to provide the service. The download offer below is from Esellerate and gives you an optional one year download location."
The Esellerate costs $4.95

You also have to input a serial key to activate the game. My firewall did not prompt me for access so I don't believe it was checking into a server.

Want to support the company, but it so much easier to have all my games in a centralized area like steam. I might have to pony up the extra just to keep it with them. They have less likely a chance of closing down too.

Wow, that is so weird.
I found this thread: http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-3556.html

So when you register and pay for the game you have unlimited access to your game shelf until Frictional goes out of business. Period.

However, they offer esellerate service which lasts the year. um, ok? so is that supposed to be for people that think frictional is going out of business in under 12 months lol. Anyway, that's a weird way to alienate potential customers.

Now that I know they have a gaming shelf (and i don't have to go through esellerate) I'll purchase amnesia for my ubuntu linux laptop.
