ELKTON, Maryland (AP) -- A melee erupted among a crowd of shoppers in the rush for the new Xbox 360 video game console at a Wal-Mart Supercenter in northeast Maryland.
It took 10 police officers to restore order.
A crowd of about 300 people waited as much as 12 hours for the game, considered a must-have item this holiday season, to go on sale at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. But an announcement from a store manager that the Xboxes would be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, instead of using a number system devised by customers, triggered the mayhem.

"That's when all hell broke loose," said Ben DiSabatino IV, a 23-year-old Bear, Delaware, resident, who had been waiting in line since 4 p.m.

Some customers were knocked down and trampled, though there were no serious injuries, said Elkton Police Lt. Lawrence Waldridge.

Wal-Mart canceled the sale and police ordered everyone to leave.

This manager sounds like a real dumbass, but the mob is no better. Ahhhh Walmart.

My friend still works at a walmart and he said that people showed up at 10am and they store manager handed the tickets out at 12 noon. He also said people grabbed steel chairs out of the home department and took a seat in front of the xbox case. However he learned the next day the everything went over okay. and the manager sounding like a dumbass welcome to the world of walmart. I meet one good manager he was manager of the photo lab and he was always trying to stick up for the people great great man. btw I worked at the devil also know as walmart for about 2 months. However I felt myself losing my soul so I quit :D

Meijer seems to be this magical shop full of fantastic video game deals and hard-to-find video game stuff. Son of a - all we have around her is walmart, target, and best buy.
 
coincidently, the walmart near me was reported as having a couple fist fights break out. All i had at the best buy to keep me entertained was a kid playing hackysack who kept almost getting ran over by cars :(

you're lucky-- I only had cold concrete, 8 cigarettes and best buy employees. My hands were too cold to play my DS. :lol:
 
Heh, I live in Maryland too. Drove by the Wal Mart on Route 40 to pick up some food the night before the release and people were camped out in lawn chairs and pouring off the sidewalk into the parking lot. No fights though, lol.
 
One of the guys in line with my group was drunk so that was pretty entertaining. But no fist fights or tramplings.
