Nothing like watching movies that cost TWICE AS MUCH as normal movies, on the go and not in sorround sound... Why the hell would you watch a movie on a bus?

Just like buying the Ipod Shuffle. I have my Iriver flash mp3 player, and I thought IT was expensive two years ago, but that was because IT HAD FEATURES... The Ipod Shuffle is a peice of junk that plays mp3s... No features, sound isn't good, it doesn't even have an lcd screen.

Then we have paying $20 for nes games :whistle2:(

... Because, just from looking at prices from today, I see OLD MOVIES like Terminator 2 for $14.99.

I can get the featuresless dvd version for around $7.99...

And the Ipod Shuffle? No lcd screen, what is that really? You can get other mp3 players for way less, that hold the same amount.

And please ignore my comments about bad sound unless you are an audiophile like me, I think the Iriver has bad sound.

And is there any excuse for the nes classics?
 
stop being so annoying and just don't buy the damn movies if you can't afford them, but no need to knock other people who feel like watching a movie on the go.

And actually, yes, I watch movies on the go.... On my pocket pc. But I'm never anywhere long enough to go past 45 minutes in a movie, and the battery never lasts long enough for the movie anyway.

I guess some people don't like to be called suckers IMO.

I have more UMD movies then PSP games at the moment, but I have an iPod Mini. Not that it's any of your business, but $12 for a movie I can take with me on my commute to work isn't going to kill me. $12 is like two mixed drinks at a club, bro.

And I have the iPod Mini because iPod blows away any of the crap that Iriver puts out. Don't get me wrong, Iriver is a cute lil' MP3 player for teens that don't know any better (or can't afford an iPod).

I'm just saying, don't hate on things your parents wont buy you (or can't afford).
 
If you only watch up to 45 minutes, I hardly call that 'watching a movie'. While I personally don't agree with buying a UMD movie, it makes sense for long trips. Some people have to ride the New York subway to work, and a movie is an excellent distraction.

Um, your analogy makes absolutely no sense. If you wanted to watch movies on your PSP then buying one for movies seems like it would be the thing to do and if you wanted to kill yourself, buying a gun would also seem like the thing to do.

I honestly don't see what the iPod has going for it. There's better players out that cost less, and most of them don't require you to install software. IMO, the only thing that's keeping the iPod in its dominant position is name recognition since it was the first major player (no pun intended) in the handheld MP3 market.
 
I question why people don't just buy DVD versions of the movies and invest the money they save over UMD into a portable DVD player.
 
I'm sorry, CAG, but I agree with him and jmcc. Portable DVD players are fairly cheap nowadays and sure as hell can play movies (DVD movies at that!) better than PSP.

I won't dignify the OP with a response, however, what IRiver model are you talking about? IRiver players in general cost as much as the similar class iPods, last I checked, but have more in the way of features and sound quality. If IRiver is a "cute 'lil player for teens that don't know any better" then iPods are for adults who don't know any better (or think price defines a product).

On second thought, let's talk about UMD movies. =P

They are the price that they are because UMDs are a new technology. We'll see price drops around the board once (well if) it is fully entrenched in the market.

As for portable DVD players, they are not all that portable themselves, and most need an external power supply (or at least a assload of D-cells) which also defeats the purpose. At least with a PSP, you have that option to watch movies, play games, listen to music, and whatever other features Sony decides to put out in one handy uhh handheld.

I've got to say, the OP could use more tact, but he does have a point.

$20 for old NES games? This is why current copyright laws SUCK - most of those games should be public domain right now.

And the ONLY way I can see buying movies for the PSP is if you have a 2 hour+ daily commute and you can't read. Otherwise, just buy the cheaper DVD and watch the movie the way it was meant to be enjoyed.

I love how you assume everyone can't afford something because they don't like it. Go ahead, buy a 50 dollar 2 liter bottle of pepsi--and they yell at us saying that we "can't afford it." Maybe its not that we can't afford it rather than it's just plain stupid.

I have a PSP and I like watching UMD's on my PSP. I have some of the NES classics for GBA. I don't have an iPod shuffle, but I would like one for when I go jogging because my 20 GB iPod is too bulky for that. Yeah me!
 
The iPod suuffle is PERFECT for active people. Create about 5 playlists to each fill either 512MB or 1GB and swap them out every few weeks. You won't get sick of the songs and you won't have to ever worry about music when working out. It's MILES ahead of a discman or alkman...
 
Okay, I usually don't bite on crap like this, but as of tomorrow i have my summer off and no more 8th graders to scream at, so I'll have lots of time to waste and lots of yelling to do:

UMD movies - at first I too thought UMD movies were a waste, but ultimately they are miles more convenient than DVDs and a portable DVD player. Before my classes I get to watch twenty minutes or so of a movie without lugging some DVD/TV player by Apex or Semtronic around, I also plan to spend a lot of time this summer in my yard and on the beach, again, the UMDs are perfect for that...

AND most importantly I have a 4 year old who loves Daddy Day Care, so why not buy it, let him watch it on the six 7-hour trips to and from Ohio that I will have to make this Summer. A DVd or VHS player is usually loud and takes away from me being able to listen to my Sirius...the PSP does not.

As for the Ipod shuffle...They serve a specific purpose, and they serve that purpose VERY well. They are not meant to be ipods or irivers or iballs, they don't need a screen, you may as well complain that they don't have a coffee maker or shoelace because they don't need that either...

But you are entitled to your opinion regardless of how wrong,misguided, and troubled it is.

EXACTLY what I was going to say.

I have a 10GB third gen iPod and I love it.. but you just can't run with the damn thing because it's too bulky, and I'm afraid it would fall out of my pocket or something. iPod Shuffle... that shit you can strap to your arm. I bought one for my wife and she loves it. I'm going to grab a 1GB model for myself as incentive to work out more.
 
I actually agree with the OP, though he put it a bit harsh. The PSP is a waste for movies IMO, having to buy movies in two different formats (DVD for home and UMD for PSP). It would have been better if they made PSP a bit bigger and a fold out unit like the DS and have it play DVDs.

Also, I agree the ipod shuffle is a waste of $100. If you are going to get an MP3 player, might as well do it right and get one with a screen like the $200 ipod which is also small.

And finally, I agree the $20 NES Classics games are a ripoff. They should be $10 at most, or $20 for a pack of 3.

I agree with you about the Ipod and PSP movies. Paying $20 for NES games isn't that great of an idea either, unless you're just buying a game or 2 and don't want to go after an NES and the original games(not like that's difficult). But this is America, people will buy just about anything simply for the novelty.
