FULL Standalone version for $29.99. Dear god I love Atlus.
Dear Atlus Faithful,

Ok, we give up. The rumors were true.

Persona 3 FES is coming to North America!

Months of trying to keep FES a secret are now behind us (which means all of us here can reflect on just how futile an effort that was).
So what's the big deal about Persona 3 FES? "FES" is short for "Festival," and in Japan, FES was released as a reward for gamers who picked up the original. Not only does the new FES content enhance the original game, but the new FES component is actually a game in and of itself, accessible right from the get-go. We think of it as two games on one disc. It is the definitive Persona 3 experience.

We will be releasing the stand-alone version of FES. There was of course the option of just releasing the "Append" disc (which would have required ownership of the original game), but in the end, we didn't want you to have to own anything else to enjoy the experience.

We'll have a ton more updates going out for FES soon, telling you about the extra features, content, and modes for you to enjoy. Thanks for being patient. We're glad you stuck around.

Oh, and we decided to set the suggested retail for FES at $29.99, just for the heck of it. Thanks for continuing to support us, Atlus Faithful!

At the bottom of the email, they also mentioned something about April 22nd. Based on the content of the email, I'd say that's the current planned release date.

I can hear it now. Millions of collectors (also known as ebay hoarders) crying out it agony. Thanks Atlus!

Persona 3 will still retain a good portion of its value though as it comes with the soundtrack and artbook. Both of which are really good. I know I have a sealed copy i'm keeping since i got it for $5 during the google checkout mistake where they took $44 off instead of $10.

Yeah but they can only sell that to other collectors which is far smaller market. Now all the casual players can just buy FES for less than 2 times the going rate of just yesterday.

No, I agree with Brian that it will still retail good value. It might not be as high as it currently attains, but somewhere close, possibly $20 less (around MSRP.)

Sealed copies will retail the MSRP value, and open, complete copies will fetch a bit less ($30 - $40?), and disc-only copies will have value little more than any other game on the market. The Soundtrack and Art Book make it worth to people; not the game itself any longer.

The 'other collectors' out there is a fairly large market, to say the least. That's why sealed/complete games that don't draw attention from the mainstream, i.e. Radiant Silvergun, Suikoden II, Xenogears, Valkyrie Profile, Ikaruga, et al, still attract much attention.

There's also the pseudo-collectors market, which artificially drive-up the rarity of common games like FF7, Silent Hill, and more. :headache:

Still, it's great news for all. Even though I have Persona 3, I will still pick up FES.

I bought mine off of ebay for $61 and I still think it was a good deal. The soundtrack and artbook were/are very nice bonuses. Can't wait for FES though, P3 is a great game, currently in the last month of my first playthrough.

I'm glad that FES will let me import my save game data and keep info like my compendium. Plus with my maxed school stats I can do social links easily.

Does anyone think the FES version will eventually hold more value than the original, or do you think the FES release will decrease the value of both, since more will be in circulation.

I think the original will still hold value since it is an original print. Much like the Black label of FF7 is more valuable than that ugly green one.

Years from now almost no one will want the original P3 over FES. It'll be hard to convince people who has never played the game that art book and soundtrack will be worth it. One good example for this is Ninja Gaiden and better Black version.

For the average consumer sure. But for the collector they will value the art book and soundtrack. I mean theres no reason that Non GH games are worth more then GH games but collectors value the packaging more.

I think the fact that it is LE adds value in itself. Look at MGS3: Subsistence LE on Amazon.

I couldn't believe that this game is going for so much. It's the same game, but the fact that it is limited edition makes is more valuable.

But won't FES increase the max for your school stats? Unless you meant you'll already start higher, in which case you're right. I wonder how it'll work.

Hmm, anyone here play the import FES?

with FES, Persona 3 without the artbook or soundtrack will worth very little.

Atlus should release a Special Edition of FES with the artbook and soundtrack just to piss off the ebayers/collectors.

It sucks for those of us who bought the game day one for full price to play... and now we have to buy it again for the extras game content. And we end up with the inferior copy of the game. Gee, thanks Atlus.:whistle2:|

nope my copy is sealed. I borrowed a copy from a friend and played for about a hour

Taken from the other FES thread:

5a. I already own Persona 3 and I don't think it's fair that new players get to have FES for $29.99.

That's not really a question, but... Atlus USA does appreciate your support of the original version of P3, but multiple releases of the same game are unfeasible for various reasons in the U.S. For this reason, we have priced the sole version of FES at roughly what the Append disc would have cost. This way, players who already own the original release don't have to pay the same amount again for the extra content. In addition to having had the chance to experience Persona 3 much earlier than newcomers to the game, they will also have the Special Edition's art book and soundtrack, which will not be included in the release of P3 FES.

In addition, this pricing structure is increasingly the accepted method for enhanced re-releases. See also Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams, Virtua Fighter 4 Remix, Ninja Gaiden Black, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition, and so on, all of which were released at $19.99 or $29.99 price points.

You "have to buy it again"? Where do you live? Because in US you can pass on FES and nobody will torture or shoot you. And how dare any company release a better version for cheaper months after the original. That sure haven't been done before.

People like you are the reason the better versions are never released here. No one forces you to buy one and at a price point of $30 its quite reasonable even if you were just getting the stand alone game. Atlus is actually charging us LESS then what they normally would. In japan the version we are getting sold for more then $50.

Well it does kind of stink that I will be throwing down another $30 for Persona 3, albeit a better version, I agree completely with the Atlus Site Admin:

I think that we were originally set to get Persona 3 before (or soon after) the FES disc was released in Japan (I could be wrong though). I'm guessing we probably would have got FES as our original version, had the initial release date been set later and there hadn't been any production problems or setbacks.

I mean we got the director's cut of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (Maniacs) instead of the original version. So I'm happy that they even considered releasing FES here. Had we lived in Japan, we'd be paying for the game a second time anyways, plus ours is already the discounted price version.

Take it easy guy...:whistle2:?

All I'm saying is that if I want to play the extras, I have to buy the "P3" part of the game again. I want to play the best version of P3 obviously but if I had know this back when P3 was released, I would've passed on paying $50 for an artbook and sountrack.

I'm not giving Atlus the middle finger by any means for doing this, giving gamers a fantastic game for $30. I'm glad to be getting FES and I'll be picking it up day one.

Again, I'm not saying I was forced to buy the game... I buy a game if I want to play and if I want to play it ASAP, I buy it ASAP. If I don't know about a better version, what reason do I have to wait?

I guess I should apologize though as I'm a bad guy for buying games early as there's some law about it...

dude just calm the fuck down bro. you've been going around on dick patrol on the Persona 3 threads.

as a side note: yea i will also be buying 2 copies of the FES (one for me/my gf and for collection purposes). i cant wait for it =P

Well Atlus released 2 versions in Japan. A $30 and a $60 version. The $30 version required Persona 3 and was cheaper as a way to give people a discount who already bought the game. Atlus is giving us the better version for the $30 version price. You can't beat that. I mean they werent going to sell Episode Aigis by itself for less then $30 anyways. Just look at it as a $30 expansion and they are including a bonus version of Persona 3 for free.

also Atlus is one of the few developer that listen to their fans (re:Metal Saga) If the respsond to FES is positive, we could see more director's cut from them. On the other hand if the repsond is negative, they might reconsider bring more DC over.

Well, that makes me feel better though I was going to buy FES anyway.
