Persona 4 - $36.99 on Amazon now! (was $34.99)

I am pretty sure Atlus USA doesnt have control over what Atlus Japan wants to do. This is the same Atlus Japan that released 3 version of Nocturne.
I am seriously wondering how many of you waiting for price drops are going to get bit on the ass. Especially those of you that think you will still get the art book and CD.
Agree. Persona is a lot more popular than Luminous Arc or Eternal poison.
I am seriously wondering how many of you waiting for price drops are going to get bit on the ass. Especially those of you that think you will still get the art book and CD.
The CD is not part of the pre order bonus, only the artbook. If I'm not mistaken the CD is inside the game case. So I would assume no matter what any copy of P4 that is sold will have it. They will have to ebay the artbook though.

In all honesty though none of their games are rare anymore (high price wise), aside from the box set of DDS1. All of the games that are in demand has gotten a reprint or two.

Yes but none of the reprints has gone for THAT low. People are acting like this is almost definitely going to be a $20 game and some like it will still come with the pre order goodies. Thing is I think there is a fair chance that this becomes a $20 game, but I think chances are higher that it maintains or even slightly goes up in value. Persona 3 was pretty popular and FES is largely what killed its value, its reprints were largly done too because fans had already had to buy both versions and the value of the game killed. Again there is a decent chance that this goes down in value but look at the recently re released games. Are any of them lower then $25? No so at best you have a $10 savings and probably will miss out on the book which all by itself will fetch at least the $10.

Anyways, dont really care. People can do what they want. Just saying I dont understand waiting to MAYBE get this game $10 cheaper especially given that this has been a new not constant trend with Atlus.....so you could save $10....or end up paying $50 or more to have to buy it on ebay....or maybe get the reprint but 2 years freaking later. Just dont make sense.

Persona 4 is Atlus USA's highest profile release of 2008, and the sequel to what is arguably the company's most successful and popular game. They are going to flood the market with copies just like they did with FES. This is not going to go out of print.

1) P3 had a slipcover box with the artbook on one side of the box, and the game in the other side. The soundtrack CD was in a paper sleeve inside of the artbook. You could pull out the artbook and soundtrack without opening up the game.
2) Eternal Poison had a 2-game case, where the game was in one side and the soundtrack on the other side. You couldn't get to the soundtrack CD without opening up the game.

My guess is that they'll go down path #2, with the soundtrack CD inside of the game case.

I bit on the Persona 4 artbook.

Now, the only thing P4 related I don't have coming from Amazon is the strategy guide.

I've spent $125 on Persona 4.

I think both of the artbook and soundtrack will come packaged inside the box according to Amazon:

"The extras will come packaged inside the box with your game"

Just like what they did with Persona 3

yeah, persona has been killing my wallet recently, lol.

but i do love this game, so

Mine only comes up to $114.96 with the strategy guide. What else did you purchase?

- Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 $34.99
-
Persona 4: Amazon.com Exclusive Social Link Expansion Pack $29.99
-
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 The Official Strategy Guide $19.99
-
P4 Official Design Works (Persona 4 Artbook - 191 Pages) $29.99

Only thing I don't have is the Social Expansion stuff, but I'm only interested in the plushie but not paying $30 just for that.

Well I do agree that waiting for it to drop $20 is pointless. I can understand waiting to see if it drops to $30, which wouldn't surprise me. After the great run of P3 and FES I don't think there will too much trouble finding a copy later on, should they decide to wait a little longer.

Dunno if this has been mentioned, but I figured I'd let anyone know who was curious. I got my copy in today of the FES bundle from Amazon (soundtrack and art book), and it is, indeed, the same box that came with original version of Persona 3. Only thing that's different is FES is in there and not P3.

Ya I was thinking of that earlier. I bought the book today and ill end up buying the guide......so that means Ill end up spending $115 too on this one game. Not sure if that makes me amazingly cool or the biggest looser in the world.
"The extras will come packaged inside the box with your game"
I think that just means that the game and artbook will both come in the same Amazon package, as opposed to shipping separately. I'm pretty sure the same message was used for Eternal Poison and Luminous Arc 2.

Well, I know it's a tiny tiny savings compared to how much everything costs, but if you want the strategy guide about 3 bucks cheaper, DoubleJump (the publisher of the guide) is selling it for 13.69 + shipping, which comes out around $17. $3 off a $115 order, I know it's not much but hey, every buck helps.

Making $13.69 into only $10.27, but you have to wait the 75 days to get the $3.32 savings back from PayPal I believe.

Thanks for the tip, but I couldn't get this to work for me. Well, that isn't entirely true. I got to the step before confirmation, but I hadn't seen the little "Live Search cashback" thing while going through Paypal, so I backed out.
When does it show up? Only at the end?

How well does double jump usually package their stuff? I am thinking of going out and getting it in Person at gamestop on Monday vs ordering it from Amazon because Amazon has been shipping my stuff in paper containers or in other ways that cause the guide to come damaged.

This has to be activated before making the purchase with Buy Now.

That's the mistake I made, I forgot about this promotion until after the purchase.

Mine came today as well, and the slipcase was sealed. They had an insert in the back talking about Atlus faithful and Persona 4 info.

The whole "atlus games are rare" thing stopped a long time ago. Stop buying games based on the idea that they won't be in stock.

QFT

You have a better shot of the art book being worth something than the game, and even that would be minimal given they're releasing a full art book. They print too many copies of games these days for them to be valuable.

I'm a sucker for art book preorder bonuses, but I canceled my order. I bought a ton of cheap games for BF, and I'm confident this will drop down the road when there's time to play it.

Wasnt a bad deal and will look nice in my collection. Fiancee even approved.

When this game ships next week, it's the last non-XBLA/Virtual Console game I'm getting in 2008.

When going about three weeks without buying a game is a big deal:

a.) You know you spend too much time on CAG.
b.) You have a real fucking problem.

Yes, I admit...I have a real fucking problem. My backlog could keep me busy through Obama's first term. That kind of problem.

Yea I agree on this 100%. I mean I waited three weeks for Eternal Poison and as you all know it was $19.96 yesterday. That is freaking 50% off of MSRP. Then again I am buying P4 at release. With the gold box discount it is $33.24 and I don't really see it going below $29.99 for at least a month after it comes out since this will definitely sell better than EP but who knows I could be wrong. I preordered for the artbook but I have heard amazon doesn't ship artbooks with much care. I am considering preordering at GS for the artbook and returning it.

So heres a question for you guys. What system do you think Persona 5 will be on? Will they stick with the Playstation brand but do the obvious and move to the PS3? Will they show some major balls and keep the series on the PS2? Or maybe break trend and hit the 360?

Personally I think its a 50/50 toss up between PS3 and PS2. Hoping for PS2.

MSI: I suppose the PS2 has some life left in it, but I'd be very surprised if the PS2 got another relatively high-profile release so long after the major development for the system had stopped. I think this will be the last.

I think it really depends on when it's released. If we see Persona 5 coming out by late 09 or in the first month or two in 2010, then I'd say it's got a good chance of being on the PS2.

Anything beyond April 2010, I'd give a huge edge to an 8th generation system; whether they move to the 360 or the PS3 I don't know. They've put out games for the 360, but perhaps they'll follow in the footsteps of NIS putting their "big" game (Disgaea) on the PS3. I know there were rumors of a SMT game on the PS3 for a long long time, so who knows.
And apparently the time to go from Persona 3 to Persona 4 was roughly 2 and a half years in Japan, and roughly a year and a half in America, so the next iteration will probably be on an 8th gen console in 2010, or so I shall venture to guess.

Most likely PS2 but I'm hoping for 360 over PS3 to be honest. Yes, I know Persona & basically the whole SMT franchise has been on Sony systems from the start (not counting the SMT titles released only in Japan on NES &/or SNES) but larger number of 360 owners compared to PS3 would be a better choice if they ever switched generations.

But whatever, hopefully never ends up as a Wii-exclusive.

Xbox 360 owner only matters in the USA, and so far not a single SMT or Persona game sold more than 1 million in the USA.

Hasn't Atlus already announced that the next Megaten game is being developed for PS3? That would either be Shin Megami Tensei 4 or Persona 5.

that just Atlus USA, who is publishing games that are already made. It has no influence on Atlus Japan

Atlus Japan had that ad up a while back for developers on both the 360 and PS3. Chances are any new next-gen game of theirs is gonna be multiplatform.

I don't think that game has been officially tied to the Shin Meg Ten series (though yea it definitely looks like one) nor would it be the game they announced they were working on for the PS3 since they one they announced was from the main series

if anything that DS game is another spinoff like the Persona, Digital Devil Saga, and Devil Summoner games
It's their fault for putting garbage out and expecting it to sell.
I remember reading Famitsu reviews at the time of Operation Darkness and wondering why they'd choose that for localization. Pretty sad when Spectral Force 3 was the best of the group, and it was definitely an acquired taste (which I never bothered to acquire).
Hasn't Atlus already announced that the next Megaten game is being developed for PS3? That would either be Shin Megami Tensei 4 or Persona 5.
I think they meant Shin Megami Tensei proper for that, not Persona or any of the other offshoots, but I could be wrong. As for P5, I wouldn't even rule out PSP and DS. Portable is all the rage in Japan right now. I'd kind of like to see the niche RPGs start coming out on the PS3. It's my vision for the system. I don't frankly care, though. I'll buy good games on whatever platform they're released on.
