Peta Ftl!
People should read the article. PETA doesn't have much to do with it.

PETA seized the moment as an opportunity to blame the killing of shelter animals on people who buy from breeders. The organization's TV commercial, "Buy One, Get One Killed" ran in Delaware after the Biden puppy story made headlines... Brown says she and Biden both received death threats from animal activists.
Yeah, but was that the only thing you were interested in? The main point of the article was that a lot of people caused problems for the breeder, especially "dog wardens from the state".

EDIT: You added ".. Brown says she and Biden both received death threats from animal activists." to the quote, and that was from later in the article. It doesn't say those "animal activists" were from PETA. PETA does some questionable things, but that doesn't mean we have to blame them for things they may not be responsible for.

My comment had to do with the title, but I read the article as well.

That's cool, I didn't mean you. When I said, "People should..." I meant people new to the thread.

I expect unceasing idiocy and hypocrisy from PETA, but WTH were the state people doing? And she should, in a just world, be able to get her court costs paid for by the state.

"..." is a literary device you can use when quoting a source to indicate that you are snipping out a portion and skipping to a later portion of the source. It does not say the animal activists were from PETA, but how could you fail to see the connection between animal activists and PETA, especially when PETA timed an ad aimed to rile up activists about Biden's purchase shortly after Biden's purchase??

Also, yes, dog wardens hassled her and cost her money. However they did not threaten her life like the animal activists. Also, PETA's insistence that you must get pets from a shelter or you are a murderer is asinine.

Come on Ruined, I know what "..." is. The point is you were implying the threatening animal activists were from PETA, and we have no idea if they were. If you want to blame PETA for stuff you know they did, then great.

I'll agree with that, but I also feel it is rather silly to pay for some properly bred animal over just nabbing a friendly one from a shelter. Don't get me wrong, I'm no animal activist, and I hate PETA, but I just don't see the need for some fancy ass pet. Every pet I've had has been either a stray or adopted. Well, stray in the case of cats, never really found a stray dog around here.

I'm blaming PETA for an irresponsible ad that likely caused said animal activists to go postal. Would this woman have been harassed by so many people if PETA did not make a stink about Biden's purchase? Of course not.

It's a German Shepherd (GSD)- due to the popularity of the breed many irresponsible people have bred GSDs with questionable temperament and health issues. A good natured GSD is in my opinion the perfect dog, but one with a shoddy temperament can be dangerous and a liability.

The temperament of the dog's parents is probably the best indicator of the puppy's temperament as an adult. So it's in an owner's best interest to get a GSD puppy from a reputable breeder who has had a long history of breeding sound and healthy dogs. As such, there's usually no way to know the history of a GSD puppy adopted from a shelter.

Now, he can always adopt an older dog who's temperament can be judged on the spot. However, my personal experience is that there's a special bond between a dog and his family when it's been raised since it was a puppy.
[ This was just a little insight as to why someone would want a pure bred as opposed to a shelter dog ]
