I couldn't believe it when I heard this.

IMO there are issues with the SCHIP program. But I completely agree with the honorable gentlemen's sentiment - good show!

Of course sacraficing American soldiers to keep our middle-eastern oil foothold is more logical than getting American children healthcare- We're being patriotic and supporting Big Bro- I mean, our President.

Finally, someone in our government who has the balls to start criticizing the administration and not back down when he's called "unpatriotic". More people need to follow his lead, hopefully the dam will start to break, and then free speech can finally start rolling throughout the country again.

Doesn't the SCHIP funding come directly from a rise in the cigarette tax? If so, then just quit and you won't have to worry about helping children have insurance.

I haven't looked at where the funding comes from, to be honest. But I don't smoke, and don't really mind a 100% tax on smokers.

The money for this proposal comes from a 61-cent increase on the tobacco tax.

I think an expanded SCHIP program would be a mistake - it's the first step towards government-run healthcare.

Also - I don't mind a luxury tax, but I'm against "sin taxes".

Bill Cunningham, I bet.

Conservatives have the "cultural arsenal" on their side. After all, who else could make a genuine scandal over Obama not wearing his lapel pin, who else could not be ashamed at wearing an outfit made entirely out of R/W/B hues and flag patterns, who else convincingly argue that they are represented in NASCAR crowds, who could argue that taxation is unAmerican, who could argue that gross engagement in crass, gluttonous commercialism is every Americans' moral obligation...etc.

This is not surprising at all. That it is successful in the cultural battle of the wits is pretty irritating, though.

its still private run. It would still be taken care of mostly by HMOs. Taking care of people when they aren't that sick is cheaper than having to take care of them when they are really sick or become poor because of sickness.
