Phantasy Star Universe

I'm definitely looking foward to getting this one. Do you know if it is going to be $39.99 of $49.99?

heck yeah I'm looking forward to it but Final Fantasy 12 comes out a week later... I'm afraid that FF12 takes my $ for the end of the month. Maybe I can get it for November though...

I can not wait for it to come out on the 360, seeing as how I can't play PSO for the GC anymore, I feel like a crack head going through withdrawls over it.

Anybody know if the online component is cross-platform?

If they kept the FOmars in, if so, check me down as that.
Anybody know if the online component is cross-platform?

I also believe that it isn't class based like PSO was... I believe that you can shift between what you want to play as more freely.

Oh and make sure those of you looking at the 360 version read the previews there seem to be some significant problems with the 360 build. Now I don't know how to think this means things will turn out as the 360 version hasn't been released in Japan yet... It could be tuned up but it sounds bad now...

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/727/727235p3.html is the preview that seems to hit most specifically on the points that are problematic.

I just want to know (doubt it though) if PS2 players can meet up with PS2 players? or PC players?
the 36O vr has the same graphics as the PS2 vr so if you have both systems go ps2 posting from psp sorry 4 lack of info
ps2 ver is lacking in live support and acheivements, so that's the big draw mainly for me.

360 version is free on live. Confirmed. I haven't played previous versions even though my friends constantly bugged me to. Definetly getting this one though since it's free with a live account.

Is the PS2 a monthly fee? I thought all versions were free.

PS2 and PC are cross platform. I read that Xbox Live is making it troublesome to make it cross platform as well. I dont think its confirmed yet if the 360 version is cross platform or not yet.

Everything I've been hearing is that it is NOT free, which makes it a no-go for me. I'm too cheap-ass to pay more than $20 for a game, I'm certainly not paying $10 a month to play something I won't be able to put that much time into.

Check this out:

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/730/730181p1.html

It says $10 after the first 30 days (which are free). It doesn't say if this is recurring or not, but I assumed that means per month. Sega maintains account membership (ie, fees) online separately from the game servers and you access that via the PC (or cell phone). Sure, that's better than entering credit card info via the PS2, but even better would be no credit card required .

So if I got this it would only be for the single-player, and I have so many other games to play I can probably wait for it to be dirt cheap first.

The price Per month for PSU is prolly going to be the same as PSO $8 IF there even is a online cost. Also, why does everyone use reviews from Ign or Gamespot? Even know the Japanese version is already out and running the U.S version is going to be different(I forgot how its different but i remember readin something on Sega.com). Even know PSU is only 1 game its just about the same pricing IF PSU has a online charge. Xbox version costs $60.00 Ten more then Ps2. Xbox live cost varies but i think its around $50-$70 a year. So if you do the math the Ps2 version costs a bit less.(So far every other Ps2 online game, besides Final Fantasy 11 is free to play online)

yea no way id get this for ps2 though. much rather play on 360 ( or even pc). If its anything like the old ones im sure that their will be contant updates and downloadable quests etc... I doubt the ps2 version will even support the hd.

Xbox live always makes cross platform difficult. It would be great for it to be compatible with pc/ps2 etc.

XBL tends to cost around $54 for an automatic 1-year renewal or [Variable Prices] depending upon whether or not you have an XBox or a 360 and whether or not you can find the sets/cards on massive clearance.

And I would imagine that PSU may have higher server costs than PSO depending upon the amount of activity the servers are going to get, much less the bandwidth necessary in order to ensure that everyone is at least having a decent experience.

To top it off, I could have sworn that most of the major gaming magazines and RPG websites mentioned a few months after PSU was pushed back that the 360 version will not be able to link up with PS2 and PC players online. Honestly, that pretty much seals the deal for me right there, regardless of server costs. I don't have the time to play on the PC and I don't want to waste my last network connection at school on the PS2 and a single online game.

Seems like a step in the right direction, though, although I've been aching for a Phantasy Star V since...IV.

Are you referring to my post?? Well, gee, I don't know, maybe because this is a thread about PSU and people were asking about the online experience and how much it costs, etc... This PREVIEW (not review at all) on IGN was just posted on the weekend and I thought an incredibly timely bit of info for this thread. It contains a bunch of info about how the servers work, how much it costs, etc - yes, it is the Japanese version but I can't imagine the online setup being immensely different for the U.S. release - especially with respect to the lobbies, how to meet up with people, etc. Looks like good info - especially for someone like me who has never played any PSO - I had no idea how all this stuff worked.

Maybe that's why I used IGN!?

Orange Lounge Radio Confirmed it. The 360 version is free and the PS2 and PC will have monthly charges.

I'm definetly going to eventually pick up the 360 version. As soon as I get a 360 that is and the game comes out. Definetly going to get one by the end of the year.
yea no way id get this for ps2 though. much rather play on 360 ( or even pc). If its anything like the old ones im sure that their will be contant updates and downloadable quests etc... I doubt the ps2 version will even support the hd.

Xbox live always makes cross platform difficult. It would be great for it to be compatible with pc/ps2 etc.
How *will* PS2 people get updates, if the game doesn't support the HDD?

Has anyone read anything concrete about plans for downloadable quests and content??

I'd much rather play it on PS2 on the couch, but if there's downloads I guess I'm relegated to PC...unless I'm missing something here....
