Phantasy Star Zero Announced for DS

I'm definitely looking forward to this one, and I'm very relieved to read SeanNOLA's overall impressions. And I think I've even sold a friend on buying a DS solely in passing along news of this coming out.
 
From what I've read, Phantasy Star Zero will not have any lobbies or anything, and you'll just be matched up randomly or with friends if you have their codes. Does this mean they can never take down the servers, and you'll be able to play forever online, since it sounds like it's peer to peer?

I was playing it earlier today. I'm really enjoying it so far, although I haven't gone online with it yet.

Good deal. Not sure when I'll go online with it.
 
I played online and offline a bit last night, not too bad. The lock-on isn't great, and equipment gets crazy expensive, but the online works fine, and the controls are otherwise decent.
 
So the online aspect works well? Does it use friend codes exclusively or can you play online with random people?
 
How is the online compared to the original Phantasy Star Online games for the Dreamcast? I was a huge fan of the original PSO and have interest in Zero, but not if the online isn't comparable to the PSO games.
