Philly and local suburbs game stores

Yeah, I can't think of any independent game stores in the lower Bucks area, except for Gamestops, EBGames and Gamecrazy.
Although there is one in Franklin Mills, near Marshalls. (forgot the name).
There's also one in Philly on South Street near 6th called Got Games.

There's an independent gamestore in the Coventry Mall in Pottstown. The shelves are *incredibly* dirty, but they have lots of old stuff (strategy guides, complete genesis games, even a saturn section) and most of it's complete. You get the feeling it's all so dirty b/c that product hasn't moved from that shelf in all the years since its release -- but that means they've got a pretty good selection. Prices are NOT cheapass however.

There's an independent game store in Center City near the Tower Records, only been there once so I don't know the name or the exact location.

Lots of video game chain stores in the 'burbs, and a Gamecrazy on Dekalb Pike and Germantown Pike. Any other independent game stores in the suburbs?

Jeremy

FYI: The Gamecrazy in Jenkintown closed. The EB in Abington will probably close as well, once Gamestop starts to convert their EB's. They're across the street from each other. I don't see the Abington EB staying open past the conversion.
Hopefully Best Buy in Willow Grove will keep prices low in the area, since they're considering getting into the used video game market.

In case anyone's looking for a copy, the TRU at Oxford Valley Mall has a few copies of green-tagged Xenosaga 2's left for $10.

Ive been to both of them a few times. The one on South Street has a huge selection of older titles, and also standup arcades. The one is Franklin Mills is like a mall type EB games withouth the trade ins bonuses. I've yet to find an indy store that's worth it. There was one in Hamilton NJ that just went out of Business that had crap, it was just a place for the dudes freinds to hangout and play games. There is actually another store in Columbus Market that can get a rare ttile here and there along with a lot of dvds.

You got Game on South Street is great.

I have to say that the store at the Columbus market totally sucks though. The guy was such a toolbox when we went there, trying to harp about some crappy ass nintendo game (Bad News Baseball, a semi-rare game but still) was worth X amount of dollars ( I forget the exact amount). The dude was a serious toolbox though, and he was the owner. I just go to the Gamestop in Fairless Hills because it's nice and conveniant, although I'll travel for a good deal or two (like the KB one).

Yeah, You Got Game is the only indy one I can think of, I heard their trade in value is pretty good. Also theres 2 stores in the actual inside of Colombus Market. One is Video Games/Dvds and the other is "Electronics" and old porno. The one that is more video games is kind of sucky tho, it's just like any other Gamestop. The guy who runs it uses Ebay a lot. There's actually like 3 or 4 people set up outside that have a ton of video games, but they just buy them really cheap from other people there and over price everything. The one guy tried to tell me Bad News Baseball for NES complete was $15, at a MF fleamarket....it's pretty bad. You have to go almost as they open if you want really good deals. The people who run the tables outside have their kids go around and buy everything for cheap.

There's 2 in Jersey I forgot about,

Headgames in Marlton at the Greentree Shopping Center has a nice used selection, and new games are usually a few dollars cheaper than GS & EB.

Bandit Games in Turnersville on Rt 42, near Crosskeys Shopping Center, has a great used selection with some really low prices.

And I just found out last weekend that a new indy game store opened near me at the Bustleton-Somerton shopping center. Nice selection, okay prices, with alot of older stuff.(GREAT selection of Dreamcast stuff).

I don't know of any independent game stores in the Middle Bucks area, though I have found that trying to get good deals at the big stores in Montgomeryville is next to impossible. A few times I've seen middle aged dudes buying loads of stuff which I had seen on Fatwallet earlier that day. The worst I ever saw was a guy buying 10 of those LCD TV kits for minivans/SUVs at once.

Did everyone get their Xbox 360s who wanted one? I know Franklin Mills and Fairless Hills Wally World filled up quick. Me and a fellow CAG'r settled for core systems at Street Road Wally World. They only got 1 premium and there was 1 person in front of us at 2:00pm. But they had 9 systems total. There was already 9 people in line but people intended to stay after being told like 10 times how short their units were. They kept saying that they were lying. So they waited and waited and never got one, so this guy goes "HEY! What's your gamer tags so I can beat you online?" And the fellow CAG'r goes "If you even get one!"

Isn't that Game Champ? I haven't been shopping down town since I was looking for an Import ps2 (which I ended up getting from a guy who was in what is now Got game?). The owner of got game? has a store called rather originally "the game store" in the macdade mall in deleware county unless they shut down since anyone in the area knows that macdade mall is a total hole. The mom and pop stores seem pretty sparce in this area and with gamestop taking over I fear the eb games that have been so awesome for so long may end up becoming the steaming piles of crap that local gamestops are.

I found out the one in Franklin Mills near Marshalls is a Got Games franchise, also called "Game Store"(couldn't they think of a better name?) like the one in MacDade Mall. They have a pretty nice used selection with stuff usually priced lower than EB & Gamestop.

I'm not sure how far you want to travel, but "The Control Pad" is in Freemansburg. They repair old and current consoles as well as carry a pretty decent stock of OOP titles. There's also a place in Allentown by Dorney Park called MicroPlay that carries imports. They used to mod systems, but they got in trouble. Since I've been in high school they go in about out of business, so the store actually being there is YMMV, I guess. o_O
FYI: The Gamecrazy in Jenkintown closed.
Huh, didn't know that at all. The one time I was there I had a great customer service experience, esp. compared to some of the other game crazies. Sad they closed. And darnit, we need more of them not fewer! I already have to drive a million miles to get to the existing ones.

the prices there were horrible. the place was so tiny too.

I picked up RS: Lockdown for $5.96 (PS2) and FR: Demon Stone (PS2)for $3.96 at the Cicuit City in Willow Grove. one of the employees marked out the UPC's and wrote the price in pen. they weren't going to give it to me. they even accused me of doing it, but finally they gave me the prices.

there were some other games in there hand marked for $7.96, but I don't remeber which ones. I think it was F-Zero for GBA. the games I picked up were the last copies.

Theres a store in Lawndale called Game-Magic at Rising Sun and Levick if you know where that is. They have some good classic games (NES,SNES,Saturn, ect.) And the two dudes that work there are cool.

I stopped in there once, but I was in a rush. Saw the strat guides though, and saw some really old ones. All the ones I'd consider buying were in crappy condition - bent up or ripped. Thought it was funny to see a ton of guides with best buy stickers on them(penny guides anyone?)

The CC near Deptford Mall has some clearance titles...

I picked up Lunar Dragon Story (DS) for 8.95 :)

and EBgames will take the TRU $5 coupon for ds games.

anyone in philly wanting to sell their m3 adapter? pm me.

The store in the Franklin Mills mall is called Game Store... pretty original huh?

Yeah, I did find that out awhile ago. :)

I still like to check out that that place every once in a while, they have alot of hard to find games at semi good prices.

Really? I always found their prices to be very eBayish

But I do need to stop in their or Got Game on South... I wanna make one of the owner types some offers for the sweet King of Fighters posters they have addorning the walls.

Game Champ (15th and Chestnut) appears to have closed down as of 10/14, at least. The store is empty, the awning is gone, and the grating is down. Anyone know what happened, or if they even held a clearance sale?

I walked by the empty store today.

It's been closed for a while now...it must've been sometime in August when work relocated me to Center City, because that's around the time I found Aidyn Chronicles guide for $4. The used and new prices were pretty much in par with what GS/EB charges. They did not have a clearance sale, or else I would've been all over it.

I did hear the owner talk about moving somewhere between 9 - 21st and Chestnut or Walnut. I haven't walked that stretch in a while, so it might be there or it might not yet. I don't know if they actually will, or when, they'll move.

Hey new to the forums but I have an idea for the thread... it may need to be recreated though.

Why don't we get a master list of these indy game stores in PA going? Seems like there are only a couple now but we could build up the list over time. Obviously its not worth it to list where every single EB, Gamestop or Gamecrazy is but everything else is usually noteworthy. We could just keep updating the first post with the new stores that people list.

The format could be something like this, lisiting either the city or Mall that the store is located in.

Got Game? - Philadelphia, PA
Game Store - Franklin Mills Mall

Also there is a indy game store at the dirt mall in Quakertown. The Qmart. I haven't been there for awhile and from what I remember most things are over priced but they don't throw boxes away and you may be able to find a deal or two there.
