I have not seen a topic like this yet, but if there is one point me to it and lock this baby up.

I don't have several hours to sit down and play games anymore so I am wondering what games for PS2 are really good pick up and play games. I usually have 30 minutes to an hour to sit down and play. I think games like Contra SS and various shooters like Gradius Silpheed and R-Type would fit into this. Any others that you guys can think of? I know someone in another thread mentioned Red Dead Revolver...

Exclude sports games and fighting games from this dicussion please since those are obvious choices.

No. Hot Shots Golf 4. :p

OK, although HSG4 is the ultimate pick up and play game there are lots of others...

Any GTA game - you don't even need to accomplish anything.
Katamari Damacy
SSX - I guess that might be a sports game but I'd call it a racing game...
Prince of Persia - save points every 5 minutes...
Super Monkey Ball (when it comes out)
Most any music game (DDR, Frequency/Amplitude, etc.)
Most any racing game

MegaMan AC

I disagree that GTA is a pickup and play. If I don't have at least an hour or two to devote to it, I don't feel like it's worth playing. It takes 5 minutes just for the game to start :) Plus many of the missions take awhile, especially if you have to drive between cities or something.

This is good to know. I need to start PoP, KD, Frequency and Amplitude. Thanks!

Alien Hominid is a blast, even if you only have a half hour to play. it's a 2d side scrolling shooter.

True, the load times kind of suck.... but I find that I really don't need to do anything and I can turn it off after 5 minutes of killing and crashing and call it fun...

I mentioned Red Dead Revolver, and it's really enjoyable in a casual sort of way. I also think Burnout 3 is good to pick up and play, and I don't even like racing games.

Amplitude is one of the best games on the PS2, in my opinion, and it's great to pick up and play.

I was thinking this might fit.

OK, I've got a good list going here:

Katamari Damacy
Alien Hominid
Megaman AC
Amplitude
Frequency
Klonoa 2

...and to top it off, I have all of these!!

I don't have Burnout 3 yet, but I'll get it eventually. I've got Burnout 2. I use this alot as a pick up and play. I only have TH Underground. Would this fit? It seems more open ended so maybe not.

Anyone else?

I nominate Taiko Drum Master. Beating on something with a stick for a couple minutes (length of one song) is always good fun.
The original Die Hard Trilogy for PS1 is a blast, especially the Die Harder part.
Yeah, I traded that one in when I bought a PS2. #-o

Other than those already mentioned:

Midway Arcade Treasures (particularly the first one)
Rez
Gradius V
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
Castle Shikigami 2
