Pick your greatest rock lineup

pdat2003

CAGiversary!
I have been listening to some great music lately. It made me wonder who I would pick to be in the greatest rock band ever. Its impossible not to leave out many great artists, so choose who would be in your band (1 lead singer, 1 bass, 2 lead guitarists, and 1 drummer). Mine would be:

Axl Rose-GNR
Flea-RHCP
Eddie Van Halen-Van Halen
Jimmy Page-Led Zeppelin
Keith Moon-The Who

Chris Cornell-Soundgarden/Audioslave/Temple of the Dog/etc..
Les Claypool-Primus/Oysterhead/etc...
Tom Morello-RAtM/Audioslave/etc...
Jimi Hendrix
Stanton Moore-Galactic

And if we go for synths, Trent Reznor.

Yoshimi P-wee from the Boredoms- drums
Nobukazu Takemura- laptop, various machines
Chris Wood from Medeski Martin and Wood- Bass
John Dietrich from Deerhoof- Guitar
Satomi Matsuzaki from Deerhoof- vocals
Laetitia Sadier from Stereolab - vocals

with Tim Gane from Stereolab and David Byrne writing the songs

jesus, that's a fucked up band

I like bands with more than one lead vocalist.

It'd be nice to see Nina Persson (The Cardigans) sing with a male voice that contradicts her own. Maybe Rob Zombie?

Lead Singer: Phil Anselmo from Pantera
Bass Guitar: Rob Trujillo from Metallica
Lead Guitar 1: Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society
Lead Guitar 2: "Dimebag" Darrel Abbot from Pantera
Drums: Phil Rudd from AC/DC

James Hetfield - Rhythm Guitar
Dave Mustaine - Lead Guitar
John Bush - Vocals
Frank Bello - Bass
Charlie Benante - Drums

Not only would that be a great band, but there are many great songwriters, 3 guys who could sing, and Bello can sing back ups.

Keith Moon = GOD. (Shame he died on my fifth birthday...)

Off the top of my head, if I had to go with only living artists, I'd go (With a lot of double-duty/ trading positions, etc):
Paul McCartney (vocals/ Bass/ piano/ songwriting)
Neil Peart (Dums/ songwriting)
Dave Navarro (Guitar)
Joe Satriani (Guitar)

I'd really like to work David Bowie in (or Chris Cornell or Alice Cooper - "Stolen Prayer", anyone?) for lead vocals, but I have a feeling it just sound like **** with everyone else. So I'm really not sure who the lead vocal would be, so Paul is my runner-up (obviously, no disrespect to him...)

EDIT: Why didn't I think Roger Daltry...?

Vocals: Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) or Axl Rose (GnR)
Rhythm Guitar: Eddie Van Halen
Lead Guitar: Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) or Eric Clapton
Bass: Cliff Lee Burton (Metallica)
Drums: Lars Ulrich (Metallica)
Zack De La Rocha - Vocals
Tom Morello - Guitar
Tim Commeford - Bass
Brad Wilk - Drums
Heck yes.

What he said, ftw.

Drums- Keith Moon
Bass- Cliff Burton
Guitar - Jimi Hendrix
Guitar - Randy Rhodes
Singer - Ann Wilson from Heart or Ian Gillian from Deep Purple (tie)

EDIT: Lou Reed should write the lyrics....

I might be able to think of a better lineup if I give it more thought. But this off the top of my head now...
The Greatest Band in The World:

Jack Black
Kyle Gass
And those other people who play the other instruments in their songs.

Not really rock, more metal but fuck it!

Singer: Mikael Akerfeldt
Guitar: Muhammed Suicmez
Guitar: Chuck Schuldiner
Bass: Steve Digiorno
Drums: Gene Hoglan

That band would kick so much ass, and yes I know half of the band is Death.

Holy hell, that would be amazing.

This is an easy one for me... I'd just pick the boys from Bad Religion circa Suffer-No Control - Against The Grain.

Vocals - Phil Anselmo (Pantera Cowboys From Hell era)
Guitar - Zakk Wylde (BLS)
Guitar - Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
Bass - Les Claypool (Primus)
Drums - Joey Jordison (Slipknot)
Zack De La Rocha - Vocals
Tom Morello - Guitar
Tim Commeford - Bass
Brad Wilk - Drums
Hahaha, I almost put the exact same answer.

Lead Vocals - Anders Nyström (Diabolical Masquerade, Bloodbath)
Backup Vocals/Growls - Ross Sewage (Impaled, Ghoul)
Drums - Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy)
Guitars - Sonny Carson, Chris Baker (both of Atheist)
Bass - Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse, Hate Eternal)
Programming/Vocals - Justin Broadrick (jesu, Godflesh)

Okay, I changed my mind, simply because I forgot a few people when I originally looked at this.

Singer- Ronnie James Dio(Dio)
Guitar- Dimebag Darrel(Pantera)
Guitar- Zakk Wylde(BLS)
Bass- I duno, or care really. Strangely, it isn't an insturement I pay much attention to.
Drums- Vinnie Paul(Pantera

As far as 'most talented' goes, a lot of the technically gifted greats have been covered. As far as a just a combination of artists that would form a GREAT band goes as far as how I project their collective sound would mesh, I'll go with...

Vocals, drums, and lead songwriter: Dennis Wilson (The Beach Boys)
Guitar: Steve Stevens (Billy Idol)
Electronic programming / keyboards: Alan Wilder (Depeche Mode)
Bass: Alex James (Blur)

That's a band I think would sound great. First off, you'd have Dennis' awesome rough vocals. Then, you'd have his rather simplistic drumming style which would fit the type of rock band I'm putting together here. Then, Steve Stevens on guitar who is just an amazing player - he would really be the star of most of the songs. Next, Alan Wilder who has a great sense for what works sonically and is technically very good on keyboards as well - he'd provide a great electronic backbone for the songs. Finally, Alex James - I personally dig the guy and I also personally dig that he's a very subdued player...certainly not among the most talented in the world, but he gets the job done and never needs to dominate the mix - and in this band, that'd be perfect.

vocals - Perry Farrell
guitar - Johnny Greenwood
guitar - Reeves Gabrels
bass - John Deacon
drums - Tony Thompson
Instruments: anyone will do
Lead Vocals 1: Chad Kroeger
Lead Vocals 2: Scott Stapp
BWHAHAHAHAHAAH best joke ever.....
