So im on vacation, and I have the penny guide list. I brought it with me. Went to toysrus, looked for pennie guides. At first I showed the guy about 30 guides. Hes like "I can't sell things that are worth 1 pennie". Im like holy ****. He comes out with a look on his face that you can't imagine. The first reciept came out to 45 items. Then with my box, I go back to the guide section, they start pilein up. Next time, the other guy asks his boss (the first guy) are you sure i can do this i dont wanna get in trouble. With the same look he nodds his head. 2 boxs i had to put in my care.
Look for me on the trading i'll be there. :D

Just fair warning; don't expect people to congratulate you. ;-) Hoarding typically isn't seen as something good/cool. In any case, glad things worked out for you.

Hm. Hoarding generally isn't good, but I'll save my divine judgment until you post your tradelist. Maybe you'll be a nice guy and share the wealth, and fun will be had by all. Or maybe you'll try and sell for a dollar off the price on the back, in which case, we'll take turns in the long process of skinning you alive.

You went a bit too far with this one. I'm all for getting a few surplus guides to trade with other CAGs for ones I've missed out on, but there are limits. I've even felt really bad about picking up 5 of the same guide before. Either way, I have a feeling you'll be hard pressed to get rid of those Madden guides. In any of my penny guide runs I have yet to even bother to pick any of those up.

I agree, you went way too far with this. Picking up one, to a couple of each different guide is fine, but clearing out the whole store? There might have been a CAG in your area that could have also used some of those.

And have fun staring at those Madden guides as they sit there and collect dust for a couple of years. With '06 coming on a few days, it's going to be hard getting rid of them.
No I plan to sell like for $3 i was thinking is a fair price. I have about 15 Madden '05 guides.
How are you going to unload 15 Madden guides?
Penny. Not pennie. Penny.

But congrats, you were reallie luckie.
Word. I understand typos but a total lack of spelling knowledge?

I guess everyone is jealous of me. But comon if u got 125 you would be like oh yeah. Also I didn't clear out the store there was about 20 more but i didn't have time.
I plan to make a big cheap trade list for you fellow CAG
Also if you buy a couple i will give madden FREE

Yay, another hoarder who benefits from the good natured CAGs who post deals and then proceeds to try to make money off the CAGs he hoarded from.

Now why would I want to pay $3 per guide.. That doesn't sound like a good deal for CAGs that sounds like you making money.

How about $1 per guide and any shipping costs.

Guides, especially FF guides, are heavy and would result in about 2.50-3.00 dollars first class with delivery confirmation.

That isn't including buying the bubble mailer.

Too bad you couldnt pick up one of these guides for a penny while you were there.

Sheesh. Painful to read. Painful.
I guess everyone is jealous of me.
yeah, i'm so jealous that you've got about 60lbs of worthless junk to store. What's that? you plan on selling them? Good luck wasting a ton of time trying to find buyers, going to the post office, etc. yeah, real jealous...
I'll think about but $3 is the most i'll charge is Final Fantasy X-2 a rare guide?
Not really. None of the guides you can pick up today are rare, shin megami being the exception.
I'll think about but $3 is the most i'll charge is Final Fantasy X-2 a rare guide?
Yes, incredibly rare. I would put it on ebay as soon as possible. At least a $25.01 opening bid.

If you have the one with all 3 girls on the cover, its ULTRA rare. $50 easy.

;)

This is some of the most retarded crap I've ever seen on this forum. Everyone here knows they're penny guides, OP clearly states that he bought them for a penny, and yet the asking price is three dollars a pop. Boycott be on!
Shine Megami guide is rare?
Can you find it in a store? Give it two years, and I can see it being over 30 dollars, easily.
someone bann this guy...
Sadly, you cant ban people for being stupid and/or a-holes. The only solution is liberal use of the ignore list function.

3 dollars sounds fair if it included the skutgrade bookrate shipping, if for the decent guides.

Like Cleveland if he shares is repreations, instead of hoarding it like peter then i dont see much wrong from it.

So hold back the fuel until we see what happens ;)

PM me with a list. I'd love to buy some off you for 3$ apiece. And really, due to my recent encounters with Toys R Us, buying all the penny guides you find there isn't a bad thing, as they often refuse to sell them, or destroy what is left once someone buys them.

imho, $3 a guide isn't too bad of a price. the price for shipping 2 guides (especially one like ffxi) will cost me $4 to $6 around here.

I think its not the actual cost so much as the "Hey, I gotta sweet deal thanks to you guys. You want in it? PAY ME!"

yea, i understand. i dislike hoarders just like any other cag. it reminds me of the guy who is trying to sell 25 copies of the mario party guide. 25? 125? that's a bit excessive...

EDIT: LMAO @ post #8

I don't believe I would get 125 of them in the first place. Hell just because something is cheap doesn't mean that you should buy all of them. They are just penny guides....they weren't selling for a reason (ie nobody wants them). If these were 64 dollar iPods I would understand but this is really nothing.

I don't know what would make you buy 125 guides... those guides are crap.

Of course, if you can sell just a few for $3 shipped, then you'll pretty much have made up what you spent.:p

Ive never understood the fascination here for guides.

I ahve always felt anyone who uses them is a puss.

As with most vendor/publishing deals, they are entitled (part of their contract to sell them) to destroy remaining stock when the store discontinues carrying them. The publisher will credit the vedor for unsold stock.. In reality you are stealing from the publisher.. Toys R Us are not being jerks when they don't sell them to you, they are breaking their contract with their vendor when they do.

So you've never even looked on GameFAQs, to say find everything in a game? Like all those Halo 2 skulls? Or checked on a move/combo list for a fighting game? Or all of a RPG's side quests?

Or is your brain so powerful that you have no problem unlocking and discovering everything on your with ease?

Thats just it.The few times I have needed help I just used Gamefaqs. This is VERY rare though, like maybe 1% of the time.

So why waste time looking for these 1 cent guides when you have access to Gamefaqs?

Fair enough.

I dunno. There's cool art sections and developer interviews in some guides like Jak 3 or kick ass posters like Resident Evil 4 and Metal Gear Solid 3. But that's only if you into that sort of thing.

Sometimes though, guides with pictures/maps make a world of difference.

I can't remember ever actually using guides as, well, guides, cuz if I ever need help, I check it out on gamefaqs usually, but I still love guides and have a ton of them. Why? As you said, art sections and cool bonuses. If I really, really like a game, I try and get the guide, just for more cool art and commentary on something I like so much. Btw, the Jak 3 guide is a truly beautiful thing, as are the guides by Double Jump. They remind me of an old guide I have for Darkstalkers: Nightwarriors on Sega Saturn. That guide was just bursting with extra artwork, plus they took screens of almost all the frames of animation. True quality the likes of which you rarely see today.

Yeah, I love that Jak 3 guide. And the Metal Gear guides. Once Jak 3, The Twins Snakes, and Snake Eater hit a penny I bought four or five of each. One to keep and read and the others to use for room/office decorations. Good stuff.
Btw, the Jak 3 guide is a truly beautiful thing, as are the guides by Double Jump.
I love the doublejump books. They are the best guide publishing company. On another note, I only get the penny guides to look at artwork just like you. If i need help, i just check the internet.

I don't understand why companies don't include more art in the guides. This is really the only reason I pick them up at a penny, otherwise they're kind of useless. Lots of guides have blurry, crappy screenshots that don't really help at all.

I refuse to pay more than $2 for a guide. I never use an actual book guide, but I'll pick some up if I can get them cheap, just as a collector's kind of thing.

Sweet, I got one...I just didn't know it was rare now.

I want a list too cause I might be interested.
