Sorry for the long thread title - credit should go to FriskyTanuki for posting this in the game's thread in the PSP forum.

Pixeljunk Monsters Deluxe is coming to the PSP on 4/27/10 on UMD. It will include both PJM and Encore. Sony says it will retail at $19.99, same as the digital one, however at both Amazon and Gamestop the game is currently $9.99 to preorder.

I'm not sure why, but I encourage everyone who is interested to lock down your $9.99 preorder now - Amazon will honor it if the price goes back up.

Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000503QB/ref=nosim/cheapassgam08-20

Gamestop - http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=77509

$10 savings, and probably free to those of you who have Amazon credit... the perfect use for your $10 bonus credits.

Woah, that's an official price?!? Awesome! It's been a long time since we got a console game released at $10. Sony had it set up so that could happen on the Playstation 1, and in fact there were several good games for $10.

I loved the Playstation 1 pricing. $30 and $40 for a new, super hyped game meant I bought TONS at launch without thinking about it. I stopped that for the most part with the $50 pricing on PS2, and have basically 100% stopped it on the current gen systems. Seems like there must be enough of us that the new pricing hurts them, but maybe not since I guess they might well be doubling their profits or more, don't know.
Just because you don't pay attention, it doesn't mean there aren't sales. There are a bunch of things that are on sale each week and there's a dedicated part of the store for sale items. They actually allow for price drops, which are extremely rare on XBLA.

We've been through this, but I don't have a ps3, which, after my enlightenment, seem to be where the majority of the sales are (or at least where they're advertised). I was speaking more to this specific game, which I don't believe has seen a sale since it launched on PSP. And I rarely hit the PS3 section of these forums, because of the lack of the ps3. :)

They're on both the PSP and PS3, though it's mostly equal on either platform. Just last week, Sony dropped a bunch of their games (Patapon 2, LocoRoco 2, and the first Buzz PSP game to $8 and more recent Sony games to $20), so there are plenty of opportunities for cheap games. D3 had most of their games (PQ/2, Puzzle Quest, and WTF) on sale for the past four months along with random sales from Ubisoft, Sega, and others.

"PSN may have sales quite often, but I haven't seen them. They don't seem to be as advertised as XBLA sales. Maybe I just don't look hard enough, I don't know. I don't have a PS3 yet, so I have a feeling that's where most of the sales are, not with PSP stuff." doesn't seem to be about PJMD, but the service as a whole.

It's not just you...based on how well they are promoted I think Sony would rather people stumble upon their sales by accident, or better yet, not notice at all! You can't help but notice XBLA sales, they are right in your face every time the 360 is fired up.

Disclaimer: I only have a PSP, but I do check the PSN store from MediaGO and the sales aren't promoted well there either.

Ok. I give. My original comment was slanted toward this game. My subsequent comments weren't.

I just don't see PSN sales. Maybe the gaming media outlets I read don't highlight them as much. I don't go "looking" for sales on any platform necessarily, but just from recollection, it seems more XBLA sales are thrown at me. Likely because it's built into the dashboard of the 360. Plus I tend to skim over PS stuff, because a lot of it is geared toward the PS3, which I don't have.

But as I've been informed many times over now, I realize they do have sales. Fine. They just need to do a better job of informing the customer, IMO.

Definitely read the weekly store update threads on the PS Blog.
Or the weekly updates here.

How else woud you know about sales for any store unless you read their flyers/ads?
:)

Dude, you're on CAG. There's no excuse to not know what's on sale with the deals forum and the two PS Store threads I linked you to. Use them to become informed of what's on sale.

Meh. I'm not into DD stuff anyway. I prefer physical media. This game I was going to buy as DD, but only when it went on sale, which it hasn't. I haven't seen any other games on PSN that have caught my eye too much, to bother looking for sales.

I (and I'm sure many others) will impulse buy stuff that I'm not looking for, if there's a killer deal on it, like Steam sales, or some of the other high-traffic threads here on CAG. If a retailer/distributor doesn't bother to get their ads out there, I'm not gonna dig for them, unless there's something I really want.
I'm going to put my order in and get another $2 bucks off @ Amazon ;)
How do you get $2 off?

I didn't want to wait for mine to get shipped. Canceled my online order and went to Gamestop to pick it up. At $9.99 I couldn't pass on it.

Getting mine from GS for $7.50. Not bad at all.

I found the monster you control in the PS3 demo to be kind of slow to move, so I'm hoping it's not as bad in the PSP version. Of course that might be by design.

My local Gamestop has no copies of it... and each time I call they say, "I have never heard of that... so I doubt we're going to get it."

Very helpful people.

I got mine yesterday (prime) from Amazon. They shipped in a bubble mailer so the plastic tab holding the game in is broken. Not the 1st time a game case has broken because they use a mailer instead of a box.

Haven't had a chance to play it but I've played the crap out of the demo.

Yeah I went into one Gamestop and asked if they had it. The guy made me repeat the name to him three times. He ran a search and said they didn't have it. I asked if he could tell me if they had it down the street at another Gamestop he ran the search and said they didn't have it either. I didn't trust him though. I went myself, to the other Gamestop and again the guy was like "what game? I don't think that's out yet?" He checked and they did have it. Not on the shelves of course but in the drawer where everyone can see it. So, just go yourself.

i get mine from amazon NEXT FRIDAY.... Free shipping SUCKS..

what really sucks is they fill the order and then allow the box to sit on the shelf for 3 days before sending it out

That's strange, I did free shipping on my order as well but mine will be here today via "Lasership" (one day from ship.) I also ordered some other stuff (to meet the free shipping requirements,) so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it as well.

Thanks. So it is on purpose. The fun potential has just increased. I'm not normally into tower defense games, but the demo was enjoyable.

Yup, and it's very early on too.
Once you have it, you can go back and play the earlier few levels with it too.

My copy came in today as well, definitely worth $9.99 just to have physical media. I'm not too big on the whole digital distribution.

Yeah, I'd be okay-er with it if there wasn't activation (ie. GOG.com), but even still the case and manual are great-good for storage, and fun to have anyway if you like the game.

heck, there's TONS of people on here who get mad if they get a greatest hits version :D

My copy should be here Monday from GS. Can't beat free shipping if it means waiting an extra day. It will be awhile before I get to it anyways.

Guys if you haven't picked this game up it is well worth tracking down and paying the $9.99 price tag for a UMD.

I am completely hooked to the game, it's basically all I play and it makes for a great commute game.
