Any suggestions?

I know that people can get used boxes from retail stores (I did that for my last move), but I honestly don't have time to haunt retail stores this time around.

So, does anyone know of a place that has particularly cheap boxes for moving?

I was thinking Lowe's or Home Depot, but figured y'all might know of some better options.

Thanks much!!!

Dan

I was looking for some today. Go to a moving company and ask for preused packaging. Its in good shape and my local company gave me a van full for free.

Try looking for stores with these:

You'll likely be able to find plenty of boxes. Also try recycling centers.

i know you don't want to hunt for boxes, but if you'd like to know a sure-fire place to score boxes from, i'll tell you: liquor stores. thats right, liquor stores always have tons of extra boxes and they're always clean and the perfect size for moving. its at least worth a quick phone call before you go and spend a bunch of money. and if it works out you can justify buying a new game because you didn't have to waste your hard-earned money on boxes. hope that helps.

He's right, that's where I got the majority of my boxes in my last move. And the liquor boxes are usually higher grade than your average shipping box. Don't want to smash those dozens of bottles of liquid-heaven.

I worked overnight stocking Wal-Mart for about 6 months and nearly every night, someone(or two or three) people would call in to have us save boxes for them in the morning. You might want to try calling over there when the night manager gets in(usually around 8 or 9 at night) and ask him to hold some boxes for you in the morning(our store opened up again at 7, it wasn't a super 24 hour store)

I got free boxes this way from them when I moved, and I know they still do this(at least here at multiple stores.)

You might want to simply ask family and friends in the area. If anyone you know has moved in recent history, they probably had a lot of boxes to do it, and since they paid good money for them, they probably still have them sitting around somewhere in storage.

Comic Book shops get tons of boxes every Tuesday or Thursday. The liquor store is a great idea too, especially regarding the quality of the boxes.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks!!

I might try the liquor store route.....that's a great idea.

I've done the bin-diving before, but in a different town. It might be worth seeing if there are any "cardboard only" bins around here.

Thanks all!

Go to the grocery store. I used to work in one and I was the dairy manager and I saved all of the egg boxes for people who were looking for boxes for moving.

I worked in a grocery store years ago, and the egg boxes rule. Nice sized, sturdy, and they have handles. I used a bunch of these when I moved out of my parents house. Try to score some of these if you can.
