Planet Earth DVD question

airwavexiii

CAGiversary!
Looking to get the planet earth DVD soon but I dont currently own an HD DVD player. To anyone who owns this set is it worth it to get the regular version to watch on a plasma tv or juist hold out for the HD version when I can buy an HD DVD player.

Thanks

You should probably hold off until you get a HD DVD player. It would be a waste of a good plasma TV if you didn't get the HD DVD version to enjoy on it.

I think the only positive of the DVD (besides price) is the extra features and documentaries, which I heard were great.

The HD-DVD has absolutely zero extras.

I think there was something like 10 minutes per episode extra with the SD version plus an extra disc with another episode about future environment impacts or something. None of that is on the HD or Blue Ray format.

If this is true, it's the ultimate irony. How many VHS movies had more extras than DVD?

apparently they didnt do any of those extras in HD so they didnt feel they should include in on the HD discs

Its actually a space issue from what I understand.

Buy the reg edition you won't be disappointed.

I was surprised that it's not even on the 50GB Blu-Ray version. Since the extras are in SD, I didn't think they'd take that much space on an HD-DVD/Blu-Ray. But I guess they truly used every inch of space for the audio/visual quality. I guess this is a trade-off

Chances are, they'll release another more suped up version of Planet Earth...it's a blockbuster and they'll have to take advantage of that.

Just a FYI, since it hasn't been mention. The one seen on Discovery is the American version with Sigourney Weaver that is only available at the Discovery store and their online site. While the original and uncut british version narrated by David Attenborough is available everywhere else.

Which the Original narrator is better IMO. I got my copy from B&N and I'm glad I got the British guy narratering. It sounds better then Weaver.

The british guy is definitely better.

They should have included a DVD of the extras in the HD-DVD version.
It's a GREAT set, but they really dropped the ball in that one area. Very disappointing.
