Playasia Summer Sale!

Playasia is having a summer sale for another 6 days.

Everything in stock is discounted. It must be "Ships With 24 hours" to be on sale though.

Any Cave fans out there? Akai Katana Shin LE is only $79...I might pick that up.
Thanks, where are you seeing it for $27.xx, showing $34.90 for me? (or I guess that was the price when it was in stock?)
Correct. If the product is instock, it would have shown the $27.xx price.

I ended up getting DoDonPachi Resurrection before it went out of stock...$36 + S&H sure beats paying the $80 they originally wanted.

I also needed something else to play on the Japanese 360 I bought a month ago. Sad, but I did buy it just to play Akai Katana Shin (AmiAmi had the LE for 5980Y/$76). :p
I frequent this website often when I look for shmups I have not played.

There seem to be a bunch on the PS2. If you're into Gradius/Deathsmiles/Horizontal shooters, you may want to give a try to the Darius series. Ikaruga for gamecube/dreamcast was really fun. R-type was fun (I played it on the turbo grafix-16) and is available on ps2 as well.
Thanks for the recommendations. I'm pretty familiar with what has come out stateside and have quite a few. I'm not really hardcore into them but I appreciate them enough where I created a Shoot em Up thread on Neogaf (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=387185) , but where I'm lacking is import knowledge. I know some of the Cave stuff, but didn't know if there are some hidden gems that I missed.

I think I'll try checking back every so often to hope it comes on sale (in stock). Thanks!

There are no ways to use promo code for these offers? I'm ordering something that is part of the promotion, while the other item isn't part of the promotion. Both in my cart I don't see the apply coupon section...
How do you tell if a discount is being applied? (I've already 'liked' them on facebook and entered through the link)

Also, Galaxi or any others that can help me with some good (cheap) import shoot em up recommendations?

Thanks for your help.
Liking them on FB just enters you into some membership program where they will give you a very small discount on select items. So far, I've only come across 1 item that I saw discounted through the membership program. As for the summer sale, items must be "Ships Within 24 Hours".

And get DeathSmiles. If your into hori shooters, you can't go wrong with that. I've played nearly every Cave game to date, and that still remains one of my favorites. The US version has Mega Black Label already on the disc (the JP version requires 1200 MS points to download). You can probably find a copy for around $20 on Amazon or something.
What is the diff between Japan and Asian xbox360? which one should i get?
Which one is the best deal???
Honestly, the JP 360 and the Asian 360 are pretty much the same machine. They both will only play NTSC-J games and region free games. Edit: The Asian consoles are 220v while the JP consoles are 110v. You would need to buy a voltage adapter. I payed a little more for the JP version simply because of the packaging and the Japanese manual, hehe.

If your looking to save money, go with the Asian version. Playasia has a 250GB slim for $350. Right now, it's "Ships Within 24 Hours". If your serious about buying one, I'd get it now because once they go, it usually takes a week or 2 for restock; sometimes longer.

For $350, it's only $50 more than a US console (not including shipping, of course).

Just want to add that you also want to pay attention to the voltage the system uses. The Asian version is 220V; the Japanese is 110V. If you go with an Asian system, you'll probably want to go with a voltage adapter.

Shipping on the system is pretty hefty (as expected)...it was somewhere in the realm of $75 or so. Ironically, I looked at the 4GB system, and shipping was more. Go figure. :p

I payed $80 shipping (FedEx) on the 4GB JPN slim not too long ago. I remember when I payed about $72 in 2009 for a white JPN console...The rates for heavier merch went up, while the lighter merch, like games, went down. By the way, everything was shipped to New York.
What about import taxes?
I've placed over a dozen orders with Playasia and never had any import taxes.

Honestly I think all that stuff is factored into the costs, but I could be wrong.

Also, I wish Cave shmups were still all region free D: or at least I hope Deathsmiles 2 sold enough for them to consider popping more of them on GoD

I dont get this... how do you see the sale price? Is the price shown on '24 hour' shipping the sale price? If so these dont seem like great sales

I was trying to remember the name of that DS game done by Studio Gibli.. the one that comes with a bad ass book, can anyone recall what im talking about? I was gonna check on it

I was also considering no more heroes red edition, but i hear that may be coming to the US. Anyone know if it is? If so no point importing it

I bought an Asian system instead of a Japanese one thinking it was a deal, but then I ran into the voltage issue. Basically the Asian power supply won't work in the US. I had to buy a US power supply directly through Microsoft, which cost $40 or so. I am very happy with the system though.

Actually, different countries in Asia have different voltages (kinda like in Europe). If you had picked up an Asian 360 from Taiwan specifically, the power supply would have worked in the US without issue.

Also, some retailers do carry 360 power supplies - you're not limited to using Microsoft directly.

I realize I'm being a tad picky here, but there are three regions for games. Some games are not locked to NTSC-J, nor are they region-free, but they will run on NTSC-J machines! For example, the first game in this list:

(Quite a handy resource there for importers and globetrotters!)

No More Heroes Paradise hits the US PS3 August 16, 2011 (or so Amazon's page shows).

Thanks! Picked up Akai Katana Shin just a shame I couldn't get the $5 off coupon to work with it. Hopefully I can stack this coupon with the one I'll get from this order for a future purchase.

Ni no Kuni. I have an extra copy still sealed in it's packaging. PM me an offer if you're interested.
