Playing Old PS2 Games

BennyWii

CAGiversary!
Lately I have been going back and buying used PS2 games that i never played before (such as Gran turismo 4, shadow of the colossus, Ratchet and clank series, ect). I go on Metacritic and purchase all of the good ones. Its is good because they are cheap and since i don't have a PS3 yet I have time to play them.

Is anyone else doing this? And what games have you gone back and played that you missed.

I played God of War 2 recently. I would like to go back and play some others but with the 360 still new to me, it will probably be a while. The good news is that the last gen games seem to hold up better when compared to this gen than I ever remember beng the case in the past so it shouldn't be too hard going back.

Lots of stuff... I just got a PS2 last year (had a Dreamcast and GameCube) so I had a lot to catch up on! The only PS2 games I had played before were Final Fantasy X and ICO. Lately I've been playing Final Fantasy XII, Dragon Quest VIII, Shadow Hearts series, Xenosaga series, Wild ARMs series, Katamari series, Space Channel 5 Special Edition, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Shadow of the Colossus, Guitar Hero III, Soul Calibur III... and I've got a pretty hefty backlog behind those.

I've been doing a lot of this. Most of it has been original Xbox, since 90% of the time the Xbox version of anything is significantly cheaper, but now that I've either gotten or gotten rid of any Xbox game I'm the least bit interested in, I'm moving on to the PS2. Got Ace Combat 5 on a whim the other day and I've been totally surprised by how good it is, never played any of the others in the series.

Trying to find out what other games are worth even their budget price is gonna be a long process though, since there are some that aren't even worth the sub $5 prices they get (True Crime: Streets of LA, I'm looking at you).

I went on a PS2 buying binge not too long ago; most of what I got was RPGs (including some rare ones, like the two Digital Devil Sagas), so many of the games weren't necessarily cheap. Out of this batch, I most recently finished Klonoa 2 (one of the PS2's most overlooked platformers, IMO) and Devil May Cry 2. I also completed Wild ARMs 5 yesterday, but bought that one at full price not long after it came out.

I'm having so much fun with the PS2 right now that I have no desire to get a current gen system. As has already been said, there are tons of games and they are cheap. I'm also finally taking the time to go back and replay some of my favorites. There are enough PS2 games that I want to play/replay that they could easily last me years.

If I hadn't already bought a 360/PS3, I'd probably say the same thing, because the games I'm currently playing on both consoles are previous-gen titles (Gauntlet:Seven Sorrows on my PS3 and Fable on my 360... BC isn't that terrible for Fable, thankfully... because I'm having a blast.)

I've got two metric tons of PS2 RPGs in the queue as well (I got them when they were reasonably on sale or new if the game seemed to reek of "rare").

I am pretty sure I'll be playing some PS3 RPGs (I'd like to finish Folklore sometime before I die), and the 360 looks to be getting a couple of nice RPGs, but like my PS2 queue, I'll most likely be playing them well into the XBox 720 and PS4 time-frames. (At my age, I'm not interested in being an early adopter anymore... heh.) :D

Try to find Zone of the Enders 2, you'll enjoy it.

Onimusha games still kick ass also.

Really you can go on for quite some time with the PS2.

The PS3 and Xbox are pretty tempting though, if you are not restricted by a budget. Tales of Vesperia looks so good.

I never actually had a PS2, but I picked up a 60GB PS3 last year with the intent to make up for that.

I picked up a bunch of games thus far, the ones I recommend are Suikoden 3 and 5, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, Dark Cloud 2, Tales of the Abyss, Shadow Hearts (have Covenant as well, but I haven't gotten around to it yet), Persona 3, and MGS3:Subsistence.

I always do this; it's so much cheaper. I just finished Jak 3, I'm about to finish God of War 2, and then I've got Persona 3 FES up next. Then maybe Psi Ops, which I got cheap a long time ago but never got around to playing.

I just opened up cheapass copies of BLACK and From Russia With Love this weekend. Fun times, both. FRWL has real Connery in it, so you know it's good!

Also, snagged a copy of Odin Sphere on the way home Friday at GS. I'll play that... in 2011?

i've got a pile of ps2 gold waiting for me, all of which i got for $15 or less... shadow of the colossus, prince of persia, odin sphere, beyond good and evil, and god of war 2. plus i'm playing okami on the wii, which kinda counts as a ps2 game, but with a little bit more added frustration.

UPDATE: Yesterday I found a handful of good old PS2 games like sly cooper, hot shot golf: fore, wipeout fusion, and prince of persia.

On a side note I also got patapon ($19.99)
And Zack and Wiki ($17.99)

I picked up a PS2 last year, primarily to play DDR (after getting hooked by DDR Mario Mix). I've also been (slowly) playing other PS2 stuff. I haven't finished, but have been really enjoying Shadow of the Collosus. That game is incredible IMHO. I just haven't had a lot of time for games on my own, with my also playing games with my kids (mostly Gamescube, Nintendo 64, DS and GBA with them). I've got God of War 2, Persona 3 FES and Nocturne in the wings. I also picked up a copy of Klonoa 2 which I'm saving for a rainy day, to bring out and share with my kids (I paid some ridiculously cheap price for it. Something like $2 or $3.) Oh, and a few weeks ago I started playing SSX Tricky, which is a lot of fun. I'd never played any of these games before. A game I picked up recently that isn't very old is Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection. That's fantastic. I've played that a lot, and if and when we get a Wii I plan to pick up that version. I'm also playing Rock Band on my PS2 and am having fun with that (mostly at parties). I've also got Guitar Hero 1 and have Guitar Hero Encore in the wings. So all that and a lot more to explore.
