Playing through pain: Hand injuries and gaming

Has anyone hear ever suffered a hand injury, but, was too "hardcore" to let it stop them from gaming? On wednesday, one of my cats went apeshit, and started attacking my other cats, so when I jumped in to break it up, the cat clamped onto my right thumb and ripped the shit out of it. Of course, this was on the same day I got the new Shadow Hearts game, which requires quick button presses with your right thumb. So, since Wednesday, I have been playing with my PS2 controller upside down, so I use my left thumb for hitting the face buttons, and my right index finger for moving around the menus, or traversing through the game and whatnot. Anyone else ever suffer some kind of hand injury that would stop a common man from gaming, but, you found some way to game on?

Must've been about 11, and got a huge blister on my thumb from playing SFII:CE with a friend all day. Pulled off the loose skin, Band-Aid, game on.

That's like my story ... except I was much older, so I suppose that makes me quite a bit stupider. In college, my roommate and I rented Killer Instinct for the N64. We played so much (on that little N64 d-pad) that not only did I blister and refuse to do anything about it (a band-aid made combo breakers a bitch!), it got to the point where I started bleeding onto the controller. That's when I knew I was done...

Playing the arm wrestling matches excessively in Shenmue II will surely lead to cramped hands and busted fingers.

I had a dog bite a hole in my palm,( I almost passed out) and (the next day)I beat resident Evil on ps1 in under 2 hrs to get the unlimited rocket launcher.

I sprained my ankle and it was the size of a grapefruit but that was the day that I beat Max 300 Heavy on DDR for the first time in my life. I couldn't walk for the next few days, lol. When I was 5 (or was I 4....same thing), my thumb got infected from a deep cut that I had gotten a few days before; I continued to play Bubble Bobble from level 1 to level 100 and then all over again (because you needed to beat all the levels twice before you win the game) and only died once. I remember that it really hurt but the game was more important than the pain!

A couple years ago I played over 400 consecutive rounds of Super Mario Kart Battle mode during a 10 hour marathon.

Part way through my hands started feeling really...crappy? sore? Then it turns to raw pain. Then it goes away because your hands are numb. My hands have never been the same since. I cant touch a SNES controller for more than a few minutes now without some discomfort setting in. The same goes for ANY D-pad, but not as bad if its not SNES.

Crazy Taxi on the Dreamcast, with all that trigger pulling, got my fingers pretty rough and blistered. Guitar Hero actually has built up a callus on the tip of my left index finger. It kinda hurts after a while but I don't really stop playing. Hang nails and gaming don't go too well together either.

:)

I was actually thinking of all the different responses that post would get, and subsequently thought of a lot of different retorts. :B

One of my fingers is bent almost horizontally and I still play games. JUST NOT WELL. :whistle2:(
ummm...no only pussies let injuries keep them from playing video games...except craven

Bastard. Cast is finally off and I can actually use my left hand (thumb can actually move freely). Now I just have to rebuild the muscles in my thumb, and it'll be as good as new.

And I was getting tired of playing only GBA games.
I once attempted a hadoken with my wang.

Yep.
No offense, but that sounds like something from Penny Arcade. lol

And yeah, I read it a lot lol
