Just got this promo email from PlayOn. For those that don't know, PlayOn is a media streaming software that allows you to stream web content from Hulu, and others to 360, PS3 and Wii (beta).

We are excited to announce our best deal ever. Through a limited time partnership we are able to offer PlayOn for only $9.99! That's 75% off the retail price of $39.99 and by far the lowest price we've ever offered. Keep reading to see how to take advantage of this offer.

In a very special offer from now through tomorrow night you can get PlayOn for only $9.99. This offer is only available for a short time so don't miss out. Here's how;

 • Click on the Buy Now button in this email.
 • Enter Coupon Code OCT09 on the purchase page
 • Select the credit card payment method and click the Buy Now button
 • Check the Save $20 on this order now button and sign-up for one month of GameFly at only $8.95.
Your total cost is just $18.94 and you get PlayOn and a month of GameFly.

Wow, that thread title is super misleading... good work!

Also... not privy to the so-called "buy it now button," so even if we wanted to take advantage of this "deal," we couldn't

Yeah, they could have sold a lot of licenses if they didn't do such a wacky promo. Even if they wanted to do 14.99, I'd almost rather do that than this 9.99+ 8.95 of Gamefly.

If anyone's wondering, this works mostly good. Sometimes I have to reload a video, or it freezes. It could just be me though-- their support usually gets back to you in a timely manner.

your not getting a deal on gamefly., gamefly is 8.95 for the first month if your a new member even without this

Sucks cause I really want Play On, and I'm already a Game Fly member =\ If only there were "other" ways of getting this program. Don't know why the "other" ways aren't available.

Title could definitely confuse some. Should reflect the total price. Right now, it sounds like you're getting PlayOn for $10, and they throw in a month of GF.

As far as PlayOn goes, I used it for awhile before the NXE, and I thought it was quite good then. I can only imagine it's gotten a lot better.

The title is very missleading. It should say PlayOn $19 (includes 1 month gamefly). They make money for having you sign up for gamefly which is why they make you do it. I would rather pay $15.
With netflix coming to the ps3, not really excited about playon anymore.
I'm not either. I got it for $10 a while back and in a week I pretty much watched all I care to watch on Hulu. Netflix was the only draw for me and even that service I preferred to use on the 360 because of the vastly superior integrated interface (the XMB is a sloppy mess drilling down through all those bullshit "folders" just to get to your queue). If the disc you can get from Netflix has a comparable interface, I might switch to using Netflix on the PS3, as wireless will let me move it around the house.

Enjoy your netflix disc! The system based netflix isn't supposed to go live until late 2010- this is a nice alternative.

That said- I have playone running on my Wii and my PS3. My sister also uses it at her house for her kids. I've had no major complaints with the service.

Same for me. Is there a way to take advantage of this deal without receiving the email?

Edit: Nevermind. I actually read the post.

I bought this in Sept. for the SouthPark.com plugin, and now it no longer works. On top of this, Hulu.com is pretty much worthless these days.

WORDS OF ADVICE:

1) use PS3 Media Server, WinAMP Orb or TVersity for your media streaming needs--they're all free!
2) sign up for the $8.99 / month Netflix account and, starting this November, watch over 12,000 streaming movies / TV shows on the PS3

...bottom line is: the best parts of PlayOn are the plugins provided FOR FREE by the community, so it's not worth paying for the software.

I have to agree with others, the title is confusing until you actually read the content of the post. Nifty use of a marketing hook there OP. :p

My favorite part of PlayOn was having Hulu pracdtically right there on the XMB. Not just my queues but their entire catalog of movies and TV shows.

I'm with you. Hulu works way better with PlayOn than with any of the alternatives I've tried. I think i'm going to bite on this deal. I was wanting to try GameFly anyways.

How do you guys like GameFly? Does it take forever to get a new game, or can I sign up tomorrow and get Dragon Age sometime next week?

I agree with Hulu being one of the main ones I use and one of the best. My only new concern is that Hulu seems to be moving to a pay service, which kinda pisses me off. That's the main reason I have play on. I'll never use it for Hulu if it's pay only. I've watched the Office, 30 Rock, Stargate Universe, Chuck, Spaced and some other decent stuff on their. They also have a Crackle plugin but really haven't used it recently. The NFL one is pretty nice. Nice short team clips or quick game highlights are nice. I like the movie trailers option within Hulu. NHL also has some full recent games within Hulu as well. I use some "other" plugins as well. Nice alternative or companion with Netflix. Netflix is good for older shows/movies where Hulu is better for more recent TV shows. Also watched the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror the other day.
