To be honest I’m not sure I’d pay $150 for this Xbox hueg eyesore even without wasting credit and selling an old console.

I mean, it’d be $150 for my first 9th gen console, so probably? But it’s still so ugly. And big.
Sold my Series X a couple weeks ago, that I used a total of 2 times, to an old friend for $350. Ran into him at Target buying a brand new one, and he wanted mine instead to save himself $200. Plus mine was literally new.

Can you swap the SSD from the PS5 to the Pro right away or would you need to transfer it?
if you're talking about the m.2 expansion ssd slot, I just removed it and placed it into the pro no problems. Just found out you could transfer stuff too through transfer data in the settings via lan cable. I should've done that firs but no big deal

The reviews of PS5 Pro should really set the tone for how completely unnecessary it is, especially given the price. It offers nothing by way of genuine leap the way PS4 Pro did with 4k. They even took 8k off all packaging because it's not a selling point and never was. They're still supporting last gen this deep into the lifecycle and think nothing of asking $700 for higher framerates. They also failed to identify clearly to consumers what is enhanced by rubber-stamping "PS5 Pro enhanced" all over the place. People are not going to pull up a spreadsheet each time they're shopping for a game.

Or perhaps that's the reason itself: they once again, didn't have much to show for it.
At the end of the day its for people that want extra power aka hardcore players that actually knows what up. As well as its an option so congratulations you have to buy it. Its time to move from the negative price point and its not worth talk thats been going for months.

These will be < $599 by Feb. (but then otth you will also have new tariffs to enjoy.)

Or wait until Switch 2 for massive price drops across the whole lineup.

no one is even talking about it this morning, nor lining up to buy these things. The biggest day in unit sales they will ever have.
Literally sold out at every GameStop, target and best buy in my area.

I can't believe people are"waiting" for the switch 2? Steam Deck made anything Nintendo dreams up irrelevant. I grew up with Sega and not playing all the Mario/Zelda.. I'll be fine now. It was a nice little dance for a few years lol

I am someone waiting for Switch 2, as long as it has a competitive price point. With backwards compatibility being confirmed, it means everything I own should play on it. Steam Deck is a great system (I use mine almost daily), but it does not replace a Nintendo console at all imo. I have a feeling the Switch 2 announcement will break the internet.

I personally love my Switch and will be getting a Switch 2 for sure

I'm not a huge NS fan but I will say the NS is the most convenient system I've ever had. Even though I don't play it that much (don't think I turned it on at all this year...) it's nice to just have something that's easy to pick-up and play for 10-15 minutes, which is what I was hoping the PS Portal would be for the PS5 but, that's been a lot wonkier than I hoped.

I'm def curious to see what the NS2 will be. Given they confirmed it's BC, guessing it'll be an Nvidia GPU again in the NS2, and Nvidia's got some insanely good AI scaling (DLSS) so I get the feeling the NS2 will perform much harder than whatever the hardware says on paper. I just hope it's BC with NS carts and not just digital NS games.

I have been a Playstation-first guy for oh I dunno about 30 years now? It has always been my most-used console. But I am multi-plat, will always have a working PC first, and am pretty much non-bias when it comes to brands or names.

But I went to school for business and we think about things differently than most. In terms of operations management, marketing & advertising, forecasting, and most of all 'case studies' for these companies. Right now, the writing is on the wall for Sony. They've gotten too complacent while being the market leader. Again. This stuff is highly cyclical for this industry.

It's not about "waiting for the Switch 2", or being some Nintendo fanboy. It's that Nintendo is conducting much better business operations these days. Especially in regards to the (cost, value) issues that face consumers. They have a hardline mission statement that they stick to staunchly, and are the cockroaches that are 100% going to live though the next big bomb.
Whereas Sony is behaving like Nvidia; next round of graphics cards comes out and your performance is going to almost double! ....actually the boards have been cut down to 60% or 80% and you're paying +80% more. So not actually gaining anything at all, in regards to value: performance. You're simply paying double. and they're gouging you. AND ~50% of customers buying it can't even make full use of the hardware.

Last I checked I need to buy an Nintendo console to play their exclusives...

I own the PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X, Gaming Laptop and Steam Deck. I also have a bunch of those Chinese emulator handhelds. I would say here is how I use these things:

1. PS5 - I used to just buy one console system in the PS3/4 days so I tend to buy multiplatform games on Playstation if it is graphically demanding or makes more sense on the PS5 instead of the Steam Deck

2. Switch - I still have a lot of games in my backlog from before I bought my Steam Deck that I am trying to complete. Also there are some games that aren't coming to Steam Deck (Unicorn Overlord) I prefer to play on the Switch. The Switch is also a great console for couch co-op or party situations. I tend to play with my nephews mostly on the Switch.

3. Steam Deck - This is the best platform for non-graphically intensive games. I would prefer to migrate to the Steam Deck for everything in the future since it is the most forward-compatible device in terms of my saved games being preserved and future playability of my game library purchases.

4. Miyoo Mini Plus - I use this for old retro games (PS1 era and earlier along with GBA) like the Fire Emblem games and Advance Wars. It is easy to take with me whenever I leave the house.

5. Xbox Series X - I only use this for Xbox exclusive games on Gamepass or short games released Day 1. I recently used it to test out Black Ops 6 but quickly realized why I don't like those mindless shooter games. I plan to experiment with Metal Slug Tactics next.

6. Gaming Laptop - I honestly need to game more on my laptop. I have a lot of old RTS games I have been meaning to get back to from back in the day (Age of Empires, Starcraft, Warcraft, etc). I also have wanted to explore the grand strategy games like Crusader Kings and play 4X strategy games (Civilization) and wargames (Panzer General series). The problem with these games is they are more like a sandbox with no real end. I feel guilty starting a game like this when I have such a big backlog of shorter experiences to complete.

I will add that people in the anime / home video world are absolutely pissed at Crunchyroll Sony and the Rightstuf.com acquisition and takeover. The top-tier shipper of home video and print media has suffered a serious drop in quality. Sony is attempting to monopolizing the anime home video industry. Everything from digital service, to blu-ray distribution, to production studios and ownership rights. Sony also owns Aniplex of Japan, and the latter's relationship with Aniplex of America publishing is really weird too.

I even get a little upset with how hard the fans are on Sony sometimes. As Crunchyroll offers some pretty good services. But they aren't wrong. Shipments, customer service, and webstore functionality have all taken massive hits since the changeover the last two years.

Think, some of us may have way more invested in this than you do.

What do you find wonky about PS Portal? I was recently thinking about getting one. It seems great for playing long RPGs like FF7. I have both Steam Deck and Switch. The Steam Deck runs out of battery in less than 2 hours if I'm playing a modern game, and the Switch I usually play on public trasport, doctor's offices, etc.

GameStops in my area have some. Is today the 48 hours that they release preorders on?

A couple Best Buy’s have them. And while Target doesn’t have them in store I can order one for delivery on the 13th.
Stock May increase as scalpers don’t pickup preorders or return them.
I'm seeing about 4000-4500 PS5 Pros across gamestop stores, just over 500 available for shipping online for gamestop.com. I imagine similar stock across other retailers.

I just hooked up my ps5 pro with installed disc drive, pretty painless process. Strangely, the optical cable for audio to my audio system coincidentally stopped working after hooking up ps5 pro, but a hard restart of TV fixed it. More of an issue with the TV than the PS5 Pro. Kind of funny since TV and sound system are Sony as well.

All of this is based on 40 of my 115 hours on FF7 Rebirth early this summer along with some Firewatch, Astro Bot and Doki Doki Lit Club in the past few months; and based on my own network (500 down, 20 up cable; WiFi 6 router) and my brothers network (800/100up fibre; WiFi 6e router), both of which are fast/modern equipment and have various things connected to them without issue.

The wonky:
1. The start up - the way it works is you turn on the Portal (from sleep, basically instant) and then you touch the screen to turn on your PS5 from sleep... which is where things can be hit or miss on how long it takes before you're in the game: from when you tap the screen to when you jump into the game, it can take as little as 20 seconds but up to 40 seconds.
2. The touch pad - there's basically no good option as to what/where they'd put this but it's on screen (on each side next to the joy sticks) and just feels out of place/unnatural but there's really no great alternatives as to where they'd put it.
3. Auto-sleep - putting your PS5 to sleep or shutting it down, from the Portal doesn't automatically put the Portal to sleep right away; it'll sleep after whatever you set the 'sleep after' to, which can be 30 sec to 5 min. You'd think it would just auto-sleep with the system since the Portal on it's own can't do anything...
4. Connecting to multiple PS5s (obviously not using them at the same time) - I took my Portal to my brother's home and figured the integration with his PS5 would be basically the same but it wasn't. I got it paired fine (even though it wasn't as intuitive as the first time connecting console) but it simply would not be able to wake my brother's PS5 (which was properly set up), even after looking up/trying various tips, even after waiting 2-3 minutes. The only way I got this to work was to manually turn on my brother's PS5 (by the button or via a DualSense) and then it would find it/connect/work fine.

The annoying:
1. Image quality/lag - even with a perfectly fine network (both mine and , it works fine 90% of the time but those 10% of the time when the game stutters/lags or image quality drops are annoying.

The mixed:
1. It's a just mirror - everything your PS5 shows on your TV, will display on your Portal (so anything your PS5 can do, the Portal can display). But, and this might be hoping for too much, it would have been cool if, for like co-op/MP games, it could just display something else on it's screen (player 2) vs on the TV (player 1). Or maybe for some other games, it could function as a secondary screen, kinda like the Wii U control pad.

The good:
1. Controls - basically the same as a standalone DualSense in every aspect, outside of the aforementioned touch pad thing.
2. Screen - when there aren't image issues, it's stunning
3. Immediate TV to Portal or vice versa - if your PS5 is already on, you can jump back and forth between the Portal and TV instantly since the PS5 is always feeding to your TV (regardless of whether you're using the Portal or not).

Honestly I'm not gonna say it's not worth getting, I just think it's a lot of first generational hardware issues. For $200, it's definitely a good value/useful device if you're someone who sometimes doesn't have access to your TV for gaming or like me, want to multi-watch (football on TV, game on Portal).

I can't even get my ps5 to turn on from the portal, I assume it is because the ps5 is suppose to be in rest mode to work correctly? I have multiple ps5 consoles attached to the portal, so maybe that causes problems? Ive also found it strange that you have to turn off the ps5, then turn off the portal, but i thought maybe it was a weird thing to allow for going from ps5 to ps5.

I used to get lag occasionally, but that has gone away since i upgraded to the eero 6+ mesh wifi (1gb down/1gb up fiber internet)

Someone who doesn't like Nintendo in a psn thread shocking.
At what point did I say I didn't like Nintendo? I simply stated I will be fine if I miss out on Mario and Zelda. I appreciated the Zelda games for what they are in Mario was good fun (and who saw Mario & Rabbids being compelling??). I don't see the need for a Switch 2...I have a mite and 2 regular switches so I will probably back track on this lol

Nintendo Switch has sold 146 million units as of a few days ago, Valve doesn't release the sales numbers of Steam Deck, but it was estimated around 3 million units sold as of the end of 2023. In comparison, the Steam Deck is a niche product for a small audience of people that love Steam and want to play it on the go. Either your comment is just in bad faith or ignorant if you "can't believe people are waiting" for a sequel to one of the most successful consoles in the history of consoles.

Death Stranding just showed up on my Xbox Series X feed, I already have it on my PS5, what even are these console exclusives anymore, haha.
It's been a weird generation for sure. It's probably one of the reasons why people are looking forward to the Switch successor.

I'm curious if and when they'll force support to end for the ps4. I can't imagine it's easy to make people migrate. Especially when there's probably few titles that can't run well on ps4. That don't have issues on other consoles anyway. And usually optimization is just about hitting full steam towards the end of the generation.

Granted things have already started to repeat like they did the ps2-3 gen as there's their overconfident nature.

I also wonder if they might start manufacturing their own chips and such. Or bare minimum have some type of deal in place to produce them specifically for console use. As presumably they'd have learned the lesson after all that supply chain issues between the pandemic and chip shortages and the shipping issues.

Sigh..name calling of course ..

How about the sales of the Wii was 101 million units. The Wii U was 13.5 million. What was a complaint? Nintendo confused what the difference between them were. I could see the same thing happening here. What's the point to upgrade?

I hope that isn't the case because always good to have more choices out there. The Switch is fine and I enjoy the exclusives (as I have stated before and besides I currently have 2 Switches and 1 lite. Wife, Son, and I), but I don't get all the hype for the Switch 2.

Here’s a good news update from a month ago. I reported numerous ebay listings near the preorder launch window the playstation direct PS5 30th anniversary products. eBay was so random in which listings they removed. It was daunting as there were nearly 1000 listings on eBay day one.

Today I’m batting 100% on listings getting removed. I suggested to eBay they need to remove any listing with “PlayStation 5 30th” as they are all fraudulent listings. Of course I’m not holding my breath that all will be wiped in one swoop. I will keep fighting the good fight and reporting away.

eBay does allow presale listings, however they must clearly indicate that they are presale, expected date of shipment, and the item will be available to ship within 40 business days of purchase.

That could explain why some listings you had reported were not removed. Or eBay just likes to choose at random.

Does anyone know the best place to get Japan PSN cards? I’m trying to not pay a huge markup lol
I was about to suggest Play-Asia, but they have a pretty large markup. About $84 for 10k Yen worth, but actual exchange rate would make it about $65. Definintely a good time to take advantage of the low Yen.

it’s definitely random as the presale originally started over 40 days ago. I was 50/50 on having listings removed. And they were in clear breach of policy. As of today the launch window is about two weeks away, 11/21/24, for the 30th anniversary products to be shipped. And today I’m 100% in getting the listings removed.

in a perfect world, sony and ebay would ban the accounts of these people.
