It is with our deepest regret that Playswitch.com and all its game-trading services will be shutting down on December 1st. If you still have current trades and/or currency that you'd like to spend, please conclude your final transactions before that date.

While Playswich has experienced significant growth during its formative years and just recently introduced the first game-trading application on Facebook, unpredictable economic forecasts have made continuing the website in its present form impossible.

Further complicating matters is the unfortunate trend of publishers continuing their assault on the rights of individual users to control the products they purchase through intrusive DRM and other such disruptive measures. This, coupled with the growing collusion with retail giant Gamestop’s virtual monopoly on second-hand game-trading, makes the future of secondary markets, such as game-trading websites and independent videogame stores, uncertain.

We’d like to thank all our registered users, supporters, fans, and other friends who’ve made these past four years as memorable as they were, and to let them know how much they’ve meant to us. We wouldn’t have survived as long as we did without the love and support of each and every one of you. Special thanks to Brian, Tabitha, Richard, John, Chris, and everyone else that we forgot to mention here (you know who you are); you’re the best.

Once again, thanks for all the great memories, and just know that you haven’t seen the last of the Playswitch staff members, and we encourage everyone to keep visiting our friends over at Popzara.com.

Thank you,

wonder how long goozex has left

sucks stuck with 120 pts and 10 trade tokens.... requested 7 games today to knock it down to 11 pts and 3 tokens but doubt anyone will ship out..

I've never even heard of this site. What I laugh at most is that they blame part of their downfall on Gamestop.

If your site is good and reasonably priced, since I think most of these 'trading' sites require people to buy 'tokens' and shit to be able to trade, then it should flourish without the need to blame someone else for their troubles.

Chances are they probably made their money and jacked up fees or whatever to where people were leaving in droves, so now they're blaming someone else and taking the money and running.

I like how they whore out their 'friends' at the other site though too.

site was Very good last year when the trades were free... I think its just like that other site that allowed you to name your price in selling. what took the site down.

many people have not even been on the site for the last 6+ months what really killed the site

Say Jan 2010 someone put up sonic collection for some system for 30 points

Well that person could leave the site (or forget about it) and not log on ever again.

Come june 2010 someone could see WOO they have this game for 30 points an order it

they would have their points tied up for 5 days and the person would never send it since they havent logged into the site since feb 2010... and then the company still left that game up on their site for the next person to fall into the trap..

I dont recall this site being around 4 years (total lie) i joined i think when they first opened like last xmas 2009

Looking back on my history looks like even with losing 120 points i still came out on top

I really don't know much about the history of this site, but I am gonna guess that Cheapest's assumption is likely true. They were probably getting a lot of traffic early on, decided it was time to actually make some money, and whatever changes took place sank the place. Their "reasons" for the site failing just sounds like a bunch of sour grapes, especially considering that they cite things that were around before they got into the business. DRM? GameStop's monopoly? Old news. The only thing I guess they can legitimately complain about are the "other disruptive measures," which I assume refer to the practice of putting codes into new copies of games. But oh well, that hurts everyone, including GameStop and their monopoly.

I just sent out a game on this site. Crap. Guess we'll never find out what tips were for. It wasn't the greatest site, but a nice alternative to Goozex. I think Goozex will be safe though. The problem with PlaySwitch is they let users set their own prices. The sells were priced high while the wants were priced low. Recipe for disaster.

yeap just like that other site that did the points thing crashed and burned ....

i think goozex will stand cause it has a fixxed point system....

i mean if i remember i traded

spiderman web of shadows for 30 points and got The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and Sands of Destruction

almost for it that is almost a 3 for 1 swap

Slide, you make a good point. I myself have had that problem a few times, and did not get games that i was excited about. What amount of time would you say is a "fair" amount of time to give the owner a chance to respond? I think maybe 48hrs?
Don't get too discouraged about PlaySwitch yet. I can't say much yet, but there may be something in the works.
best thing that could happen is someone takes them over , but there is like a 1% chance that could happen. and if it does who is to say if the points transfer

im shocked 2 people sent games out the last week even though they know the points are worthelss

I hope they get bought and come back and can keep my credit. I had $40+ worth of trade and was never notified they were closing down! I just found out today when I tried to go look to see what I could buy. :bomb:

They just didn't have enough users (for quite a while) I guess. I couldn't find a game I wanted with $40!

ummm it was listed on their site for at least a month they were closing down.

even if they did come back all of your trading credits and tokens would be gone since they are gone

Actually, I was planning on purchasing them. Sadly, they did not even have the enthusiasm to send me the requested reports in order to determine profitability strengths and weaknesses, or any information on their system structure. I was really excited about the opportunity, but it just fizzled off. Too bad. :(
