Please help! I need a new pc FPS.

Lately as I've been playing MW2 I've realized that hackers and bugs are becoming much more prominent and are ruining the game. As such I'm jumping ship and need a new FPS. I am considering BC2 but lots of reviews are saying that the PC version lags behind the console versions. If anyone can either nullify that statement or recommend another next-gen FPS to occupy my time i would be extremely happy.

About BF:BC 2 what do you mean by "lag behind"?

But even before you answer that I think I can already nullify that statement. I've played the PC version for over 30 hours now and nothing beats controlling an FPS with a mouse and keyboard, dedicated servers (no killcam, admins that enforce polite gaming), and DX11 1920X1200 gaming everything on high 4x AA 8x AF. It's a great game

The only thing I don't like about it are that the maps are smaller and there are less players than previous battlefields. 1942 is still the best. :)

If you want another FPS there always is old faithful, Counter Strike Source :D

Quake Live is free too.

I'd say BC2 is very much worth it (I play on PC), it has been the best game I've played in a while. That being said it's also my new favorite FPS game.

Quake Live was already suggested but I would also try this one...

Alliance of Valiant Arms
Megazell's Top Pick

First Person Shooter/MMORPG
Single Player - No
Multiplayer - Yes

Alliance of Valiant Arms is one of those rare free MMO gems that has both top notch graphics and extremely in depth and varied gameplay.

Heck, A.V.A can easily hold its own against pay to play MMOFPS games like Counter-Strike Source and even Call of Duty 4 both graphically and gameplay wise.

Those who played other tactical MMOFPS games like Combat Arms, Blackshot or even WolfTeam should be able to quickly familiarize themselves with AVA as most MMOFPS games tend to be unusually similar.

Alliance of Valiant Arms runs the same Unreal 3 engine that Huxley: The Dystopia uses, so expect at least comparable to or even better graphics.

Perhaps the most notable aspect of AVA worth mentioning is its numerous game modes.

They are:

Annihilation - Annihilation mode is basically team deathmatch. The European Union (EU) and New Russia Federation (NRF) duke it out across one of the game’s many levels. Whichever team reaches either 80 or 180 points first wins.

Demolition - Demolition mode is essentially the same ‘plant the bomb’ game mode popularized by Counter-Strike. The EU team must plant a C4 bomb in one of two bomb sites while the NRF must defuse it.

Escort - The EU team must ‘escort’ a tank that slowly moves through the map while the NRF have to use Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) to destroy it. If the tank reaches the end of the map before time runs out the EU team wins, otherwise the NRF wins. This is one of the more popular and unique game modes in Alliance of Valiant Arms.

Convoy – The EU team must find and capture a ‘nuclear suitcase’ that is guarded by the NRF on one map before time runs out. Eliminating the opposing team is another way to win a round in Convoy mode.

Free for All – As the name implies, players are by themselves and must kill anyone they see. Whichever player has the most kills at the end of the round wins.

Suppression - Up to four player controlled EU characters must survive against waves of computer controlled NRF soldiers. Players basically have to survive as long as possible. Players have a limited number of ‘respawns’.

Domination - Basically king of the hill. Opposing teams must capture and hold the command post located in the center of the map for a period of time to win.

Survival - Exactly like Suppression mode, but with one one life per player.

Prison Escape - The EU Team must find and kill a set amount of prisoners then battle their way out of the prison area without getting killed.

Megazell's Comment - I personally don't like Military Shooters...I am more of a sci-fi/horror FPS player...but this game runs and feels so smooth.

The amount of choices you have for weapons is down right amazing.

I have not tried all the modes but this is a game I am going to make some serious time for.

I am going to posting some more tomorrow but I think AVA fits your bill.

Thanks guys. I was just reading reviews and its good to know the PC version of BC2 is up to par because it looks like fun. I'm kinda sad i have to jump the CoD ship but yesterday i even saw a wall hacker on the Xbox version so its obviously all gone to hell. As well thank you to Megazell for offering a free alternative. I'm going to try it out before shelling out the fifty bucks for BC2 because it would be nice if there was a free game that matched the standard set by MW2 and BC2.

And by the way the sale on steam will last how long exactly? I'm on vacation using my laptop and i won't be able to get to my PC until Monday.

Only a day. You don't have to be at your PC to buy it, you can buy it on your laptop tomorrow and you'll own it. Then later, you can get to your PC and download it and play it.

You can buy it from your smart phone's web browser.

store.steampowered.com

And then download from the actual client once you get home

I think AVA, War Rock and Combat Arms are some freeware games that capture the fun and challenge of modern FPS.

AVA has a lot more features since I posted that. When I do play that game I am usually in 'Prison Break' mode.

It's sort of like L4D except it's a prison riot and you are trying to reach way points as the mobs get more dangerous and faster.

Like L4D though...you need a tight team that knows what they are doing to progress in the game. The achievement system unlocks weapons and skins too.

The original Battlefield 2 is still going strong. It is like BC2, except $9.99 and the expansions are now free. Either way, both are great games.

Well you could go try out something completely out of the world war/modern war genre and into future styled fps. Try Unreal Tournament 3 - Quite old now, but its a really fun game. Specially the latest expansion with the Greed mode. Hours of fun.

Not to mention the uberfun Titan mode. It's great to all of sudden need to team up with your enemies to take him out.

I dun know, I'm still having fun with TF2 and L4D2. Then again I still play CoD2.

Combat Arms and AVA are rather fun games for being "free".

Do you prefer combat like in CoD? BF is fun but I prefer infantry only type games. UT3 is cool because you can have mods as well as the actual game, same as with steam games. The mods are endless, graphics aren't always the best but the gameplay is usually pretty entertaining.

I have the problem of too many games to play, not enough time :p
