Please help! USB controller/usb ports not working...

Please help me out... I just waited 9 hours in line to get a PS3 to find out that the usb ports do not work? I plugged in the controller to the usb port and am now stuck on the screen that says "connect the controller using a usb cable, and then press the PS Button." I press the PS button on the controller, and all it does is all lights flash for about 5 seconds. Do I need to charge the controller 1st? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

I'm getting the same problem when I try updating the firmware. Any solution to this?

When it flashes press it again and one light should turn red.

Same problem here... any solutions yet? Pressing the PS button doesn't help... the lights flash indefinitely.

Can you hold down the PS3 button and get it to allow you to select a new port for the controller?

Solved: Use a pin to push the reset button on the back of the controller and then proceed normally.

For some reason my sixaxis didn't want to charge from the first USB port. I plugged it into the third one and it charges. Didn't go back to the first one to make it a real test, but there you go - YMMV.
