Is there any software that'll let me subscribe to Podcasts for automatic downloading that ISN'T iTunes? Maybe even a Firefox extension?

I too hate Itunes and was just wondering the same thing. I use Ephpod to import my music personally at the moment and have had no issue with it. The one thing I dislike about it (which may simply be my fault) is the fact that I can't figure out how to move video and photos over to it using Ephpod. For photos I use Itunes which sucks since it will not allow me to individually delete one photo, but rather has to find a new folder of photos and the delete the photos that are currently on. Also, I can't figure out how to put video on the Ipod with Itunes at all.

I don't have an iPod and I don't need mp3 management so it would be silly to install such an intensive program solely for podcast scheduling. I've also grow to personally dislike iTunes on the basis that you HAVE to install it every time you update Quicktime. I promptly UNinstall it. Hell, even the name of the .exe file for Quicktime is now itunessetup.exe!

I have used Juice for the little podcasting and importing that ive done (not much), and I like it just fine so far.

I personally love iTunes. It is great for organizing all of my music, podcasts, videos and photo transfer is flawless. Many people dislike it just b/c its made by a major company. The same people who love Apple and hate MS in the PC arena b/c MS is the market leader now hate Apple in the MP3/iTunes market just b/c Apple is the market leader. iTunes is well supported and works flawlessly with iPod. I cannot think of a good reason not to use it except b/c its made by evil corporations.

If I didn't have an iPod, I'd probably stick with Winamp for my music needs. Is there possibly a plugin for Winamp to get podcasts?

Maybe the reason could be not having a need for any of those things? When I want to play some mp3s, I just want something small in size, small on my screen (you hear me, iTunes?), and mind-numbingly simple.

iTunes has a mini-player in which the entire player is minimized and the controls are displayed including the song name/title, etc. The size of the app should be negligible in this day and age. A few extra mbs should not be the reason to not use iTunes when compared to how much space ur music takes up. You don't have to use any of the features iTunes has but iTunes still has a rather nice barebones interface for those just interested in playing MP3 music.

That's good to know, I didn't know that. But it looks like I'm covered now.

Just out of curiosity, what program did you decide to use?

quicktime w/o itunes: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html

Wow, great thread. Was just wondering about something like this since I too hate Itunes. Combersome, annoying, etc. I have the same issue as poster Fire has with photos. Makes me delete all of them if I just want to delete one of them. Anybody know the reason for this or how to fix it so I can just transfer one photo at a time or something like that?

Also, I too use Ephpod. Much easier than Itunes, and just overall is a better program I feel. Juice looks great. Will have to look into it.
