Possible RANT about Gamecrazy Best Trades Guarantee

hey, so I just called my local gamecrazy, b/c i've never traded with them before, only gamerush b/c of the sweet promos they have. So i ask to see if they match wherehouse.com/FYE's trade-in prices since it says we guarantee the best trade in deals. The guy on the phone then says we don't match prices, that they already have the lowest prices, so they don't. Anyways, i proceed to explain that when i'm trading something in, i don't want the lowest prices, i want the highest(in a non-assholish manner though). He sticks to his statement that the guarantee means they have low prices, not that they match anybody else's. I really felt like going into an explanation what a guarantee is(a la Seinfeld explaining what a reservation is in one episode), but decided not to.
Given i'm back home in middle TN(state w/ one of the lowest 5 scores in education) from college so maybe this guy doesn't know what the heck is going on, should I go in the store and try asking somebody else? I assume it's just this guy, but he did ask somebody he was working with to make sure. Is Game Crazy's guarantee really this nonexistent? Is this legal to make this claim? seems like false advertising to me. Can I take it up with somebody else if they don't do the guarantee.

Thanks, I searched and didn't see anybody else having problems, so I hope i can resolve this and make some sweet trades.

That paragraph killed me. Game Crazy will match other stores trade prices if you have proof of what they will pay (Like from Blockbuster a quote recipt).

Wow...you weren't kidding about your home town having the lowest education scores.

Like gizmoc said, if you can provide proof that another store will give you $x.xx then gamecrazy *should* match it.

actually, we will call stores like blockbuster/eb/gamestop to price match trade in credit. However, we don't price match trade in deals, like the trade 5, get a certain game, or the extra 40% with 4 trades at GameStop, along with GameRush's deals, we don't price match those, just trade in credit prices. That guy on the phone had no idea what he was talking about.

It works well cause Blockbuster often gives $35 for newer release games, but blockbuster doesn't have crap that anyone wants to buy.

hmmm, ok, unfortunately the closest EB and gamestop is 60 miles away and the closest Gamerush is nonexistent, what do you say about trying to match FYE/wherehouse.com trade in prices? think it's possible

Definetly. As long as they give trade in prices over the phone, and it's a price, not a "trade 3 get this" kind of thing, or special deal, we'll price match it. The emphasis is on trade in credit, not bonuses or deals.

The guy at my local GC store just came from Cookeville. He's a good guy, but I think there's a new manager and a few new employees.. who knows.

Anyways, as Jer said, they call the store.

And Cookeville's not exactly a bad city. No one i've dealt with at any of the stores are intelligent, but they're far from stupid.. everything there is just.. old time-y.. sorta.

My rant: NOBODY AT GAME CRAZY KNOWS WHAT THE REAL DEALS AND POLICIES ARE - AND 90% OF THE TIME THEIR IGNORANCE IS IN GC'S FAVOR.

This isn't a dumb employee problem, it is a dumb Game Crazy problem. I used to live in Minneapolis, and frequented 7 of their stores (5 of them I was in at least every other week). Every store was different and you could never depend on any form of continuity in policy. One store would stack deals (Buy 2, get 1 free + Spend $50 on any old-school system's game, get system free), another one wouldn't. Trade-in deals varied - at one store they had "Bonus $10 for every 2 games you trade in (yes, like the EB deal)" - the other store said "No, you can only do 2 games per day...and I can only give you the $10 bonus if you trade at least one game already worth more than $10 in trade".

Stick to your soapbox and maybe, MAYBE someday Hollywood Video will realize they need to do a better job of communicating policy.

I have found this to be true and its mostly the fault of gamecrazy corporate, not the individual employees. When we had our 3 for $20 sale, we knew about it 2 days in advance. We also had to set up full signage and remove all the qualifying games in time for the sale. They Always do this. Don't be surprised if some lackey who's working the morning shift doesn't know what's going on cause it just came through the hotmail the night before and the manager hasn't been in. It's just bad communication. (In their defense, we knew about the 3 for $15 on classic games about a week in advance, so that was an improvement)

hold on a sec here, im new to this price matching TRADE-IN values deal. I have a ton of reciepts from FYE with their crazy trade-in values (like $17 for freestyle soccer). Can i take these reciepts and a copy of free style soccer to game crazy and actually get $17 in credit for it?

Anyone do this?
