Well, I just got a call from a store manager that I worked for nearly 5 years ago. She said she just had to call b/c my name was flagged for trading in multiple copies of the Nerf-N-Strike. I was at first shocked that this actually happened. For the Nerf game, I only traded in 8 copies, all at different stores, not even at the same store once.
She said if I explained to her what happened, she could try to take me off the list. So, I came clean on how Best Buy likes to sell 'free' games. I told her this wasn't my first rodeo, and told her I traded in 24 copies of Fairy Tale Fights, and another 18 copies of SBD and this was only up to 3 months ago. At which point she kind of laughed, saying that explained why she had seen so many copies of those games
Anyways, she said over the past few weeks, they have done major tweaking to their system and managers can directly red-flag you at the store level or send out an email to a DM. Thats how I got caught, when I showed one store my trade-in receipt from 24 hours ago, they denied me the trade in.
So you guys have been warned! I'm printing out copies of my receipts just in case anything happens, but if I get banned from the trade-in wagon, their loss, not mine. I've never seen a store that values trades so much, deny you at every step of the way. Seems like more of a hassle..
EDIT: yeah I changed the title, b/c I didn't want to sound like I had 'official' information. I may have embellished a little, but the point still remains! If the initial email to a DM triggered it for me, then thats fine, but there has got to be more. How could I trade in so many copies of the other two games but not cause any concern? I wouldn't be surprised if they are updating their system. More and more everything is getting linked to your EDGE card, I bet it won't be too long before they're able to pull up a 'ledger' of all your trades..seems very possible! This can also serve as a warning, b/c I don't know how you'd check to see if you were banned, save trying to trade something in and getting rejected..
