Post-Target LOTR screw up: Target cancels orders

Game_Dude_3

CAGiversary!
I just got an e-mail from Target saying that they cancelled my LOTR BR trilogy order for 7.99 because they were 'out of stock'. They cite their store ad that says they only had limited qualities, although I don't understand how that applies to the web site.

I'm getting some feedback from others reporting the same. What bugs me is that the web site will say when an item is out of stock, and I purchased the set before it was out. I strongly believe this is BS and was wondering if any one else got an e-mail and how we can go about still getting this deal.

Yeah, this sucks, I just got the same e-mail. They should update their site to accurately reflect stock if availability is the real reason,
but I bet its because they don't want to pay for it.

Same here. I ordered it WAY before everyone else, yet I get this email. This was a Christmas gift for my girlfriend too :/

Yeah, I got fucked over too. Luckily I had the good sense to go in store and buy one before Black Friday to get one adjusted. So I'm not completely screwed over though there goes two really nice Christmas presents I could have given.

I'm a bit annoyed but probably more at the el hoardos who ordered multiple copies of this. On the other hand I can still enjoy my 3 copies of the movies I got from Amazon at $24.

No email here, really hope they don't cancel orders of single copies while processing peoples orders who ordered multiple copies to flip.

yup got the order cancelled email earlier

fuck you target, smh at them shipping out $10 black ops copies but not these orders :/ wtf

read that on slickdeals
I didn't get this email; instead I got an email telling me I'm going to have to wait longer for it.
I got this also, estimated arrival of like the first week in January.

I just got the email too, I thought they would actually ship it. After all, they sent an email saying that it would be delayed until late december/early january.

Black Ops were $10 woah, totally missed out on that one.

I also got the e-mail saying that I would have to wait a little longer a day or two ago. Then the cancellation e-mail came just 15 minutes ago.

But I hope you get lucky :)

I figured it was going to be like this. No biggie since I have been waiting for the extended edition. It just means that targets website is worthless, which seems to be the case with them.

Most websites don't update as quick as they should... very few companies actually have great sites for keeping track of stock.

NOOOOOO...THE PRECIOUS!!!

Hmmm, just as I and others figured, the vast majority of the online orders, if not all of them, would get cancelled. Not the fault of the people who ordered one or two of them, but ultimately you can thank all the morons who ordered 10+ copies of it thinking they were going to be reselling these from mommy's basement, and even people ordering 3+ copies to give out as gifts.

I actually strolled into the Target in Eagle Rock around 11 Friday morning, long after the unwashed masses and hordes had pillaged the place, and after searching well, found two of the trilogies sitting in a cart filled with media that had been discarded and tossed aside. $7.99 a piece for the mother fucking win.

yeah this is impressive. target isn't just some house having a garage sale -- when they confirm an order it should be set in stone.

very bummed out that i was cheated out of the other LOTR offers on amazon as well. i guess i'm just too accustomed to websites that actually keep track of inventory.

As far as I read, NOBODY will be getting their orders fulfilled. People who ordered minutes after the deal went live are getting cancelled. So that means Target had 0 items in stock? Sorry, not buying it. Sounds like they don't want to ship out orders.

These assholes did the same thing a couple of years ago with the Britax car seat. Target.com should be ashamed of themselves for their shady business practices. I will never shop there again, I'm tired of this shit.

Yup...I would've taken up the Target offers for $8 each if I knew this would happen

But...I did call CSR and they credited my account for $7.99 and put a note on my account to let me know when they come back in stock. Couldn't guarantee the price for the Trilogy, however :/

I got the cancellation email as well. Oh well, I got my 9-disc version price matched in store. The online order was my back up. That's right, fuck you, Target.

First I received an email saying it would be delayed until late December or early January. Now I just got an email saying it's been canceled all together. I only ordered one copy as well.

Same here.

I got 2 copies in store on Black Friday though. :)

Wanted the online order for gifts =(

Hmm, I was told to call back if I ever see the item in stock and they'll honor the pricing. So that sounds good to me, because I'm confident Target will pull some asshole move and make these available to buy for full price sometime in the near future.
I like how they said in the email that we can order a copy if it comes back in stock at regular price.
Yeah that is pretty asinine

I understand we are all pissed but I don't see why we need a thread, especially in the deals forum, to post our angry messages.

Guy on the phone for target.com told me that in the milliseconds between orders mine could have been one that sold out.

Still no explanation for confirming an order that doesn't exist.

He told me that the manufacturer could not supply any more and as a result they canceled the order.

Apparently this information was discovered sometime between the delay email and the cancellation.

No price match for target B&M , no willing to honor the 7.99 when it comes back in stock.

No all I get is a guest services phone # and a 10 dollar target gift card.

I'm glad I'm such an idiot by canceling my amazon orders.

I'm more glad by target punctuating that fact.

i didn't get the $7.99 credited back but she said if it "went back in stock" i would get it for that price lol

we will see what happens. smh

I also highly doubt they have stopped making this move on blu-ray. How could the supplier say they will never again get this movie in stock?

I thought this would come sooner.

I'm not sure where else we'd post this, and it does have to do with a Blu Ray-related deal.

My thoughts exactly but just because Target thought we wouldn't get the movies in "January"
It was a good reason to cancel the order.

Call Target and got them to honor the price when it comes back in stock. I asked them to send me a confirmation number or an email stating my price would be honored in the future but the lady said they can't all she can do is put a note on my account. So in the future I would have to place an order and call Target csr to get the price (hopefully).

If it comes back on stock prior to January 8th (the second shipment date) I would be p*****. Cause then they are flat out lying.

Argh, screw those donkey flippers who decided to honor their mistake and even offer it online until it got crazy abused by people ordering double digit copies of it.

Be mad at the hoarders. Let us see if Target sends any copies of LOTR before we light the torches. I can't imagine they had a huge supply of these at their warehouse. It seems pretty reasonable that they can't get any more since the extended editions are sure to be coming soon.

Kinda wish I just got the $10 gift card rather than some CSR word its been 'posted' to my account. ...when does the extended LoTR BluRay come out ^^

Ordered a single copy very shortly after the deal went live and got a cancellation email as well. Not cool, Target. Not cool.

I missed this deal all together, but I've noticed a disturbing trend the last few days. First it was Barns and Noble canceling orders for some of their boxsets like TMNT and Austin Powers, then Newegg canceling orders for the Godfather trilogy, and now this. Yup, I think it's officially Amazon or bust for me when it comes to online orders. Atleast when they fuck up, they seem to make good on it in some other way.

Just got off the phone with them. Blah, blah terms and conditions, blah. But they did say when I notice it back in stock, call and they'll honor the price. Well, we'll see. I'm assuming they've been bombarded they way they answered...

You know who I'm laughing at the most? All the idiots that presold these on eBay and now have to go ahead and cancel 10+ orders. I'm laughing so fucking hard at them. They are going to get so many negatives.
